Week 5 Interviews and Poll Results

I'd like to thank all the winners for taking their time to respond to my questions. There was a lot of unexpected moments in last week's matches including Jello's Scarfed Metagross and Gasai's speed tie showdown. I was particularly impressed with Nido-Rus's rain team; it includes Archaludon 2.0 and Chesnaught! In regards to SV and ND, Feyette won the Goltres vs Goltres match and Kunal won using a tier 5 Mega (Tyranitar). As always, good luck to all the teams! See you in the Finals!

How did you prepare for your match?
I gotta shout out my team, I haven't had much time to play sv lately so i just trust whatever my team suggest i bring. volcaronavgc likes to bring a lot of spread special attackers like chi yu, iron crown and regidrago so i was immediately looking at grimmsnarl + options like av gambit, iron hands, moltres, ting lu. As i was talking to lemurro about my match up, he suggested i load up the sample team he made with some edits and it looked really good into their team style and it was in the direction of team i wanted to load so i booted up some practice games and headed straight in.
Were there any key moments during your match that stood out to you?
Turn 1 when they gunk shot my grimmsnarl actually helped me a ton, it lets me position my incineroar to fake out so that it couldn't knock off my av on ursaluna or psychic fangs away the screens which would make me alot more vulnerable to kyurem. Removing moltres also basically instantly won me the game because it was her sturdiest dark resist.
What is the origin of your username?
It's probably mentioned somewhere but it originated from a gym challenge i did back in 2017/2018, i was a fairy gym leader with feyette being the persona and i've been rocking with fey ever since.
What is one dish that everyone must try?
Everyone knows phở but bún bò Huế is also a must try vietnamese noodle dish. It has a rich, spicy, sour shrimp paste and fish sauce based broth, topped with beef shanks, oxtails, vietnamese sausage, pork knuckles and vegetables. I rarely eat breakfast but when i do it's often this dish. It's super underrated and a must try if you ever visiting vietnam or spot a vietnamese place near you.

How did you prepare for your match?
I wanted to inflict mental damage to schister whether I won or lost, so I decided to use a team with a lot of hax options, such as DD rock slide ttar and twave iron head jirachi. I also felt that ferrothorn is pretty underused in this tier as an iron defense body press mon, especially because it has a high base spdef and sits in front of fairies and water types pretty comfortably. I was a bit worried about jank stuff like mega venu, or fini + misty seed entei, so I wanted to make sure I had enough to bring the skill ceiling of the match down to allow me to play more easily. If schister loaded marshadow I probably lost in team preview, but I thought he wouldnt.
Were there any key moments during your match that stood out to you?
The game basically ended on the spot when i fishious rend crit his iron hands, so I didn't get to show off some of the other techs on the team. What is the origin of your username?
When i was really young I was trying to make an account on some forum, and I really liked the character Meta Knight from the kirby universe. All usernames I could think of related to meta knight were taken, so I was like "meta knight is basically an evil/shadow version of kirby" (I didnt know much about the character, just thought he looked cool) and landed on the username shadekirby from that lol. Nowadays I just go by Kunal, which is my real name
What is one dish that everyone must try?
Not too long ago I found a Filipino food stall near me that serves a sour soup dish called Sinigang, with king salmon trimmings in it. Its like a sour/tangy tamarind soup base with salmon and various vegetables. Its super comforting and savory food, highly recommend if you can find a Filipino restaurant that serves it.

How did you prepare for your match?
Most of the idea behind the team for this game was jello looking at actuarily's derby scout (s/o eatfoods for the scouts) and noticing that ID chesnaught looked really good into his teams. From there I sort of mixed a jello ID chesnaught rain team and my own derby rain team from a few weeks ago. Even without basc, kingdra rain has been consistently overwhelming and hard to deal with- very good archetype right now
Were there any key moments during your match that stood out to you?
The game's momentum shifted pretty heavily on the turn where I got to proc eject button poli and get a free kingdra switchin. This turn was interesting in that wildbolt storm did way more to metagross than I expected (38%) from a mostly uninvested thund, which made me think gross might be scarfed. I went for the safer but potentially unnecessary play of clicking twave on gross to keep it from clicking a fast boom/psychic fangs, though I never did get to see gross's item in the end
What is the origin of your username?
I briefly talked about this in last week's questions- my username came from me really liking sheer force + LO as a combination back when I started playing on showdown (nidoking + landorus). I had another username I used before this on other websites (runescape, travian, etc) , but it was more of a shared username between my brother and I
What is one dish that everyone must try?
Maggi noodles. Absolutely amazing fast food noodles. If you've never tried it, it's kind of similar to shin/buldak etc noodles, but so much better

Im a Mirai Nikki fan, Gasai Yuno is my favorite character, i used GasaiYunoSan name in PokeMMO cuz GasaiYuno was not free, so when i went to smogon i decided to give myself the same name.
What is one dish that everyone must try?
Silpancho, its a bolivian dish, its like a hamburger, but very thin, accompanied by noodles, potatoes, fried plantains and some salad.

my opponent challenged me to an rfn, and I was happy to accept as I had a team prepared that was already tested and a very comfortable structure for me so I was very happy to accept.
Were there any key moments during your match that stood out to you?
dad1 incorrectly calls the turn 1 as he doesn't expect the scarf metagross and sacks his infernape, effectively ending the game as the lead is too great for him to turn back from

How did you prepare for your match?
I had some ideas especially to take advantage at the beginning because my opponent was repeating pretty much the same type of leads but the truth is that I was sick since Friday and I couldn't do anything except 1 team with lead regice, so it was that plus teams that I liked and am comfortable with

in g3 being able to pivot enough with marowak and finding a win line with icy wind suicune in the third game vs rain

Earlier this week, kaori started a fight against the other managers. I thought an arm wrestle was not enough. We needed a real entertainment: a free-for-all "Hell in a Cell" tag team match. According to poll results, no team truly seem to have an upper hand. Perhaps, I can interpret this result as all teams are united against Kaori.

I'm honesty surprised Super Mario Sunshine managed to tie with Super Mario Odyssey. From what I know, Sunshine is usually considered to be the black sheep among the 3D Mario games, but still a good game in its own right. Personally, I voted for Super Mario Galaxy. I was impressed with its unique approach to platforming and its charms. Plus, you can't deny that Gusty Garden Galaxy is one of the best orchestral soundtracks in video games.

I'm not surprised with these results. Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild have redefined or at least raised the standards of gaming in their own unique ways. I started the series off with Breath of the Wild after a long haitus of gaming. I played at least a hundred hours on that game. It was just that amazing. I still haven't played Ocarina of Time, but if I had to be honest, I'm just saving the best for the last.
