Hi everyone, I just thought I'd shoutout a few people who should get looked out for SS by those managers who are now realizing just how dry the pool is. In the past few tours, it's been very clear that the very few people who actively build and care generally do much better than those who try to just load old stuff, regardless of how good of a player that person getting passed teams from when SS was CG is. The issue is that those players who can help prep are few and far between, especially when half of them are managers/retained right now....but there are still some nice people I'd like to see get the chance to help. Also, for those people looking to break into the NU tournament scene, by FAR the best way to stand out is if you can provide SS support in the builder, so start learning the tier and gl gl :)
Metallica126 - When I mentioned writing this post, Stories brought up Metallica, who was then dubbed "mr. build" by OBB in the NU discord, and a bunch of people chimed in to agree. He's been an underrated staple for most NU team tours and SS tournaments on this site for a long time now with quiet success in the supporting/playing role, and he has a pretty nice grasp on the tier and the gen as a whole, despite not being a NU main. Metallica also has a reputation for being a great teammate, a good pilot, and someone generally worth spending money on. I'd love to see Metallica get the chance to start in SS this tour if he wants it, but if he's picked for SV, you'll get someone who's support in SS can go a long way.
Lyra - Anyone who hangs out in tour discussion knows Lyra doesn't shut up about SS and has actively tried to learn the tier over the past few months. I can attest that Lyra will be someone worth taking a chance on to back up your SS slot, especially if you can get him to focus his creative energy. Sometimes Lyra can go a bit too techy/creative in the builds or get 6-0ed by Salazzle, but that energy in SS goes a long long long way as well. I'm looking forward to seeing anyone not named
Aawin pick Lyra up this tour :)
JensenDale - Jensen is someone who broke onto peoples radars in the previous NUCL for his GSC play and as a good presence, but he's also been quietly playing a bunch of SS behind the scenes with people. Although he's newer to the tier and hasn't played it in tour, he's a fantastic teammate and good vibe presence who you can reliably count on to make your team environment and team better, even in tiers he isn't as familiar in. SS happens to be the ones he picked up on outside of GSC, I believe in part to prepare for NUPL, and I hope to see him really get into it more this NUPL.
leoperi - I accidentally put leo on this list thinking he was Jensen, but this was a happy accident. This man is now my protege. He haxed the fuck out of OBB in a room tour today. I'll train him to be a SS support legend.
PowerOfMemes - Another lesser known NU player with a bit less of a reputation in regards to tours, Pom has been quietly testing and building SS for a while now with Lyra and a few others. Definitely someone who has enough of a grasp on the meta to help secure some quality teams for 3k. He doesn't really have much SS success beyond some small individual runs, but don't let that dissuade for filling that hole in your roster with your last few picks. Pom just hasn't had the opportunity to shine in many team tours yet which I hope changes this time.
There are also a few other players/pilots who deserve shoutouts as well, although I imagine most of them were on everyone's radars already:
OranBerryBlissey10 - OBB farms these people who reuse old teams with Vaporeon like no one else. I think this is the tour he finally beats that pokeslice guy as well.
Stareal - Stareal had an epic performance last NUCL which I think highlights the importance of passing
good teams to a great SS pilot. I have no doubt that he can replicate that same record, but it's much more likely to happen if Stareal can get support in that slot since I imagine he wasn't building stuff for himself. Either way, Stareal is definitely going to meri again so this is all a moot point.
S1nn0hC0nfirm3d - Is this tour the return of SS Ho3n? Maybe. He was a menace when SS was CG but hasn't really played it since as far as I'm aware. Regardless, he's a very strong player who can probably pick right back up where he left off if given up to date teams. I would hate to see yet another CG SS NU great become washed post gen...
turtledoggo1 - turt is BACK. The creator of the fishiest g terrain ever, turt was the NU ladder and tour hero who barely ever wanted to play tours. If he's around, take a chance on him as he was the most unappreciated player of the past few years. And also give turt up to date teams so he can 7-0 everyone.
There are also a bunch of other players that I'm too lazy to write about but should be looked at for one reason or another if one is looking to help fill the SS slot like
damien the genius,
dunoks,
Luck O' the Irish,
crying and many more strong SS pilots or players semi familiar with the tier, so sorry if I forgot you. I'm hoping this is the tour people finally take the SS builder seriously and stop just reusing bad teams so that we can have a competitive pool, so please, no more half baked Vaporeon vs. Vaporeon teams!! And no: a singular Mowtom doesn't beat Vap.
