Project SS National Dex OU Teambuilding Competition

Congratulations Mamoo for winning Cycle 13 of the SS Teambuilding Competition!
A pleasant surprise to see this project revived :{D
Now seems like a good a time as any to finally post this team I've been holding on to for so very long.

War Pigs - Dual Screens HO

:ss/grimmsnarl: :ss/Excadrill: :ss/Gyarados-Mega: :ss/Celesteela: :ss/Kommo-o: :ss/Necrozma:

Here's a team that I hold very dear to my heart.
I built it at the very start of the generation when SS NDOU was the current gen at the time.
The initial idea was to build a team of powerful sweepers behind screens, but after tinkering with a few unique mons and movesets, it finally ended up being the current version you see here.
I've had a lot of success with this team on the NDOU ladder & it also helped me get a lot of voting requisites for various suspect tests over the years.

Kommo-o set used:

Brainwashed Mind (Kommo-o) (M) @ Kommonium Z
Ability: Bulletproof
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Clanging Scales
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab
- Clangorous Soul

A standard mixed Kommo-o set from the good ol' Gen 7 days with max Attack and max Speed.
The difference here being the omniboosting move Clangorous Soul over Stealth Rock/Taunt to give it that extra oomph in power.
Bulletproof is chosen as the ability to give it an immunity to moves such as Weather Ball from Zard-Y, Shadow Ball, Gyro Ball, etc.
Soundproof could also be used an alternative if you want an immunity to opposing Kommo-o Clanging Scales or its Z-move, it can also come in handy against Ditto, but Ditto would still have to lock into the right move to reverse sweep.

Flamethrower for Steel types like Mega-Scizor, Mega-Mawile & Corviknight, & Drain Punch for recovery are also viable options that could be used on this type of set, but Close Combat at +1 hits hard enough after rocks.

Excadrill is the team's designated lead, unless you're up against Mega-Lopunny or Mega-Medicham teams.
Mold Breaker allows it to set up Stealth Rock in the face of Magic Bounce mons like Mega-Sableye & Hatterene, & to punish Rotom-Wash leads with Earthquake.
Rapid Spin is for hazard control & Rock Tomb is to lower the opposing Pokemon's (mainly Defoggers like Lando-T, Tornadus-T, Zapdos) speed to allow my team to keep up Stealth Rock.
Rock Tomb can also surprise Gyarados, Volcarona & Charizard-Y, being able to potentially OHKO the latter two.

Grimmsnarl is the main enabler of my team. Dual Screens provide the buffs in defense that my setup sweepers need to steamroll the opponent.
Taunt is essential to prevent opposing hazards, Defog & status moves.
Spirit Break in conjunction with Taunt prevents Grimmsnarl from being setup fodder.

Mega Gyarados is the dedicated Stallbreaker of the team.
Thanks to having access to Mold Breaker, Taunt + Dragon Dance gives it a strong matuchup vs Stall teams, ignoring abilities like Unaware & Magic Bounce and stopping Haze from Toxapex.
Substitute is another good option over Taunt which can accomplish a similar thing. The one advantage it has over Taunt is avoiding a Scald burn.
Waterfall gives M-Gyara a way to overcome its checks thanks to its flinch chance.
Crunch is the other STAB move which hits water-resists for heavy damage.
Earthquake or Ice Fang could also be used to make it a DD 3 attacks set, but then it will struggle vs stall.
Behind screens it has the bulk to set up multiple Dragon Dances & it's also a really good Ash-Gren check.

Autotomize makes up for Celesteela's mediocre speed stat & lets it outspeed all unboosted threats in the tier.
Meteor Beam is a powerful move that deals significant amounts of damage to Fire types and Electric types that resist its STAB combination.
Power Herb turns Meteor Beam into a one-turn move, & if it KO's something, it can give you a +2 special attack boost in the same turn.
Air Slash has a chance to flinch down Celesteela's defensive answers.
Flamethrower hits the steel types such as Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Corviknight & Mega-Scizor.
Autotomize + Beast Boost can quickly snowball out of control & sweep many unprepared teams.

The combination of Clangorous Soul + Clangorous Soulblaze turns Kommo-o into a terrifying sweeper.
The ability to setup a double omniboost and just tear through opposing teams is pretty insane x{D
Kommo-o behind Screens is great into Weather teams especially & is also another good check to the dangerous Ash-Greninja.
Poison Jab hits the Fairy types that its STAB combination can't take care of.

Last but most certainly not least is the underrated MVP of this team, Necrozma! :{D
Mega Lopunny is a massive threat to HO teams, so I had to figure out a way to deal with it.
After going through a list & testing various possible options, I decided on Necrozma as my answer to it.
Like Celesteela, Necrozma makes up for it's middling speed with access to Autotomize.
It has enough speed to outspeed Scarf Seperior after an Autotomize.
Photon Geyser is an awesome STAB move that ignores abilities such as Unaware.
Heat Wave targets pesky steel types like Ferrothorn, Corviknight & Mega-Scizor.
Earth Power is essential for Heatran which otherwise walls it.
Its ability Prism Armor reduces super-effective damage to 3/4, this plus screens support makes Necrozma difficult to take down.
Weakness Policy punishes opponents who attempt to use super-effective coverage, giving it a +2 boost to its attacks.
Mons like Landorus-T, Mega-Scizor & Mega-Lopunny going for U-turn can proc the item & turn Necrozma into a massive threat.
Alongside the Autotomize speed boost, if it gets the Weakness Policy boosts, it can shred through unsuspecting opponents with ease.

The original version of the team had Magearna over Celesteela.
Magearna got banned in SS NDOU via suspect test in April 2021 after terrorizing the tier for about a year & a half.
After the ban, I replaced Magearna with Celesteela. While not the same offensive behemoth as Magearna, it still functions in a similar way with Beast Boost.

Hyper Offense has always been my favourite playstyle in singles.
Whether it's Hazard-stacking, Sticky Web, Weather HOs or Screens, anything fast-paced that challenges and encourages both the user & the opponent to be proactive is something I enjoy.
I believe this is a solid enough team, with decent outs versus various other team archetypes.

I wanted to share this team because it's my favourite Singles team that I've built & one that I've used a lot throughout SS NDOU & even modified for SV NDOU.
Go ahead and test it out for yourselves.
Most importantly, have fun, because making friends & having fun is what Pokemon is all about  :{D

Cycle 14
mawile-mega.gif

Mega Mawile is an incredibly unique wallbreaker, with one of the best typings in the game and the absolutely absurd ability Huge Power. Its STABs and Knock Off hit for absurd damage, reaching absolutely devastating levels after a Swords Dance. With access to fantastic coverage in the elemental punches (besides Fire Punch :psysad:) and the ability to circumvent its low Speed with Sucker Punch, Mawile is an absolute nightmare for defensive teams if supported correctly. Mawile, with so much coverage needed to ensure its absurdly powerful STABS are usable, is an incredibly customizable mon that opens up so many avenues in the builder, and gives opportunities for incredibly flavorful supporting casts. How will you let Mawile take a bite out of the competition?

I can't find my older maw teams so I cooked up this team of goobers
:buzzwole: can find his way into fighters, weavile, and grounds to throw out meaty moves.
:mawile-mega: can clean or break. sd knock pr sucker is classic big damage and knock support.
:landorus-therian: sets up rocks and can remove pains such as venusaur and fighters with z-fly.
:jirachi: safest best vs lele and provides decent speed control. Can hwish buzz, lando or fini back to full as well as provide trick support.
:tapu fini: traps and removes pex/slowbro for buzzwole while blocking status. wards off waters and fires as well.
:rotom-wash: defogs and pivots.

And that's a wrap folks! Congrats to Mollymiltoast for winning Cycle 14!
4a mawile https://pokepast.es/fc75ed7bbd0a852b
i made this team a while back, the idea was let mawile and scarf rotom cripple fat stuff to the let the other sweepers win
:mawile-mega: 4a mawile, fpunch on the steels roost
:volcarona: wincon
:rotom-wash: trick user, speed control and ash gren counter
:dragonite: wincon
:landorus-therian: stealth rocks/glue mon
:zeraora: wincon and something to outspeed lopunny/weav/gren/koko

We're doing something a little different for Cycle 15! A poll! We're running this in the CAP IRV format, which means we'd love if you all could vote in this format:

Most preferred:
Second most preferred:
Least/Third most preferred:

This helps us with deciding the next cycle's star and lets us pick mons that you want to build. We'll be starting off small with only 3 potential stars to vote on, but if this proves fruitful we'll expand the options and be able to branch out pretty decently! Anyways, here are your choices:
weavile.gif

The SSOU grim reaper themselves: Weavile! With access to strong priority, STAB Knock Off, and solid coverage, the advent of boots turned this already solid little weasel into an absolute demon. What can you cook up with such consistent strength?
mew.gif

The Firstborn of Arceus, the pinnacle of creativity, Mew! Whether as an HO lead setting rocks and applying paralysis or getting up to hijinks with Imprison + Transform, this little guy is capable of almost anything you need it to do. Although it lacks the offenses to make it on its own, with enough support, anything can be possible. What can you do with such infinite possibility?
porygonz.gif

And last but not least, Porygon-Z! Able to click absurdly hard-hitting Normal attacks and with access to crazy tools in Agility and Z-Conversion, Porygon finds itself in need of some support. With such a variety in its sets, there's so much to be done with such an unexplored mon. How will you Download and Adapt to Porygon's unique challenges?

Votes end Monday, May 19th. For real this time.

MEW!

With five first-rank votes, Mew has been selected as the next star of the teambuilding competition. Weavile and PZ will appear again in later surveys, so don't be dismayed if your star didn't make it. However, for this cycle, Mew is the central mon! With HO Lead sets, Imprison Transform, or even some nostalgia with an RBY SD-boom set, the options on Mew are limitless. Lets get some shiest in this round, so get building!

Submisssions close Sunday, May 25th. Good luck!
