Welcome to the top cut of the Gen 9 Random Battles Swiss Tournament! Congratulations to everyone who's made it so far, and after competing valiantly for 10 weeks, you now enter the final stretch to see who can win it all!

ALL GAMES FROM HERE ON OUT ARE BEST OF 5!

Rules

1. Contact your opponent on their Smogon wall and decide on a time to battle.
2. Challenge each other in the [Gen 9] Random Battle format.
3. The first player to 3 wins advances to the next round.
4. Post replays of all games played in this thread.

Scheduling, activity calls and extensions
We highly advise all players to schedule on Smogon walls it as it is the primary proof of communication that will be considered for activity calls regarding scheduling attempts. If you schedule elsewhere, please at least confirm the intended date and time that you and your opponent have agreed on playing on one of your walls so hosts are aware in the case an activity win needs to be granted.

As this is top cut and the bracket is fixed, we would prefer all games to be played out and are happy to grant extensions where needed.

The winner of this tournament will receive the Room Prize Winner rank in the Random Battles room for a month and be inducted into the Randbats Hall of Fame. All players who have won at least 1 match will be awarded circuit points, giving them a chance to enter the Circuit Playoffs. The winner of the Circuit Playoffs will get a year-long Room Prize Winner rank, and a custom avatar! Click here to view the Random Battles Circuit Schedule
As we head into top cut, it is expected that some games may have a higher level of viewership. However, when spectating Rands Circuit battles, do not ghost. Ask yourself, “Would my comment reveal information that hasn’t already been explicitly revealed in this battle?” Examples of ghosting include commenting on how an unexpectedly fast Pokemon must be holding a Choice Scarf, speculating that the match will be decided by a 50/50, etc.
Now that the Swiss stage is over, we would appreciate your feedback regarding your experience this tour! Please feel free to provide comments in this thread!

Prediction game

Career Ended (1)
vs. blundergoth (16) > I fully expect CE to lose next round due to the very well known curse of the first seed/undefeated swiss but I think he is way more accustomed to gen 9 than Blundergoth and he should prevail in the battle of the Canadians

Arurua (9) vs. SoggyDoggySage (8) > Soggy is doing very well in swiss and the transition from draft to rands seems to continue seamlessly so I don't think her tournament is going to end anytime soon

dunoks (5) vs. Drifting (12) > It's going to backfire so hard but Drifting is the person I expect to win it all according to my gut feeling (Losco or Justin is the "rational" take) but he has a very unpleasant first round against Dunoks. It should be a good one and it might go either way!

lichess (13) vs. PigWarrior19 (4) > Lichess might be the biggest surprise of the circuit so far and I like predicting an upset from time to time

JustOut459 (3) vs. FreyaknightVGC (14) > Justin is just freaking good and Freya has a bit less experience than him in gen 9. However, he is the kind of guy who legit acts like he is in a shonen whenever he faces powerful opponents so I believe he can up his level for this

Munchy_Axolotls (11) vs. Dark Pulse (6) > Munchy did rbel tryouts with me and I am pleasantly surprised they reached top cup. I do predict Pulse to win because "mid skill, god luck" is the way to go in tournaments like this (which is also why I think he'll lose to Just "lucky and bad" Out459 in the following round)

AquaGuy2.0 (7) vs. Hairoll (10) > Hairoll is good, Aqua is probably a bit more accustomed to gen 9. I guess I'm going with the upset just to have one in the lower part of the bracket

RoFnA (15) vs. LoSconosciuto (2) > Sorry Rof but Losco is the best gen 9 player of the bunch so I don't think he'll lose this :c

Totally not biased predictions :

Career Ended (1) vs. Blundergoth (16) - has blunderr in their name and can't bold against the goat (and totally not becus I'm biased towards my rbel teammate)

LoSconosciuto (2) vs. RoFnA (15) - HCPL teammate so must bold him (that aside losco is great one of the few I'm betting my money on to win it all)

JustOut459 (3) vs. FreyaknightVGC (14) - VGC hell yeah

PigWarrior19 (4) vs. Lichess (13) - Don't know enough about lichess so ya upset lesssgooo

dunoks (5) vs. Drifting (12) - Drifting good

Dark Pulse (6) vs. Munchy_Axolotls (11) - goat got that host magic in him

AquaGuy2.0 (7) vs. Hairoll (10) - Aqua is pretty passionate and pretty good in Gen9 idt I've beaten him even once yet

SoggyDoggySage (8) vs. Arurua (9) - again don't know much about Arurua and soggy's pgood I think? (Idk but as a draft player myself go soggy)

Trust me I know a shit or two about Rands and definitely don't suck at playing the game and also definitely not bolding based on vibes or how much I'm familiar with the names either :))
