Random Battles Circuit V
Hosted by Amaranth, Dark Pulse, Irpachuza, and sharpclaw
Welcome, one and all, to the fifth annual, but also inaugural, Random Battles Circuit! RBC is a tournament circuit organized by the Random Battles room on PS! that gives players the opportunity to prove their individual skill in a variety of relevant and competitive Random Battles formats. Over the coming months, players will compete in 11 different Opens, 10 single-elimination and one Swiss, with the objective to earn points and standing on the RBC V leaderboard. The top 32 players will qualify for the Random Battles Circuit Playoffs, with the eventual first-place prize of a custom avatar!
To those of you who’ve competed in previous iterations of this tournament, the Rands Slam: yes, this is a rebrand! Yes, it’s similar! Yes, it’s also different! Besides a different arrangement of formats (see below), the main change is that every Open will count towards a player’s standing on the leaderboard, rather than just their best 5 performances. To complement this change, we will be instituting a new points system, which works as follows:
- For single-elimination Opens, winning a round means gaining points equal to your current number of wins (so your 1st win is worth 1 point, 2nd win is worth 2 points, etc).
- For Swiss Opens, you gain 1 point for your first 3 wins, 2 points for your next 3 wins, and so on.
- For the Top Cut of Swiss, the structure is the same as single-elimination, above, but your first win is worth 10 points, not 1.
For those you who prefer to see numbers, a winner’s point totals after each round are:
Single Elim: 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, 45
Swiss: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12,15, 18 ,22
Top Cut: 10, 21, 33, 46
- For Swiss Opens, you gain 1 point for your first 3 wins, 2 points for your next 3 wins, and so on.

While the circuit as a whole will be coordinated by the RBC V hosts, each individual Open will be hosted by different members of the Random Battles community. RBC V hosts will have final say over all administrative decisions regarding the tour, with input from each Open’s respective hosts. All Opens will follow the basic guidelines for tournaments on Smogon, but may differ slightly due to their varying structures, so remember to read each OP carefully when signing up!
