- how do we get more rental pokemon? ik you unlock a pokemon by buying it, but is the selection of unlockable pokemon going to be limited forever, or does it unlock via transferring, playing matches, buying more packs?

- whats the item situation lol i assume we buy them just like we buy pokemon, but will they be inventory items u gotta buy and rebuy or unlockeables like the mons?

- will there be any enforced rulesets such as item clause? will players be able to make their own rulesets or will the game offer standard rulesets you can pick from?

I am upset at this chart because this is neutral nature erasure but Hardy nature erasure especially. Hardy is the first nature in index/sorting order (visible in the box search menu) following the order of Attack/Defense/Speed/SpA/SpD, and also Let's Go confirms Hardy is meant to be the +Attack/-Attack nature via Madam Celadon allowing you to choose specifically which two stats to increase/decrease, whereas Serious is +Speed/-Speed.

I know the Serious Mint is already precedent but Pokemon Champions trying to claim that Serious is +Attack/-Attack is a very upsetting contradiction to the established stat system.
I’m just glad that serious is an option in the game. I know that might sound strange, but there have been times where having a serious nature is optimal. An example was when I used Regidrago set in 1v1 before it was banned- it was Haban Berry Scale Shot set- this was one of the rare cases where a neutral nature was better due to me needing every stat for this set to work.

The Champions stuff is definitely the most interesting from today IMO. The VP stuff definitely gives “grind for this currency” vibes which kinda.. sucks? I kinda assumed it was going to be a PBR vibe, pull in things from HOME and battle away with more variation in usage / regulations / rules etc.

Unless you can get VP from HOME, similar to the way you can get BP/Miles etc from it based on Pokémon deposited.

Initially I thought Champions was going to be a replacement for VGC eventually so that the main series games can do away with PvP aspects, and also minimise the need for breeding / IVs / EV training and focus on being a single player experience, however I’m not sure on what the actual goal for Champions is now. Is it going to exist alongside VGC in the games? Are they going to be cross compatible? So that your VGC ranked data pulls over?

One of the things I liked about Pokémon’s “eSport” was that you can literally get everything in-game. It wasn’t a F2P situation (I know people like to use the DLC argument but if you’re taking VGC seriously you’re getting the DLC lol and if you enjoy the game to use it’s PvP features you’re also getting it) but Champions might need more grinding for those points? Or potential in-app purchases? Eh..

I know there’s probably a transfer mode where things can come in, get edited, and go out again (hopefully) but yeah.. I’m cautious around it.

(Sorry if this is just a string of words I’ve just popped an ADHD med and my brain is on fire)

I personally don't enjoy the implication that HOME mons with non-Serious neutral natures transferred in are all going to be homogenized into Serious natures. We could very well be entering a new generation of Naturexit as we speak, not to mention how the lack of a mints menu may impact the flavour berries if they even exist in the format.

I don't see why there would ever be a limit on dumping Pokemon from Home into Champions? I imagine they would have mentioned that in passing, but also there's no real reason to do so.

I also doubt there's a fee for it. Or, like, if there was it'd be on some technicality like "You need a Home Plan to use this" rather than in in-app purchase.

I keep seeing folks assume oh this or that will cost per-use fees and I think the easier assumption is just, like, if there are microtransactions at this juncture it'll be for outfits. If they wanted to nickle & dime you it'd be on the points, but you don't seem to buy those.

oh i dont think itd be a microtransaction thing, but more so a limit to keep you from dumping your entire home at once if they felt like that went against the spirit or something LOL. microtransactions will most likely be trainer and pokemon cosmetics

I know it may have simply been disabled for the trailer and overview of Champions, but I could not find any indication of Terastal or even Mega existing during the battle or training footage. Is it likely that the game will launch with no super-mechanic implemented yet?

Yet another QoL thing in Champions I just noticed: moves with a chance effect now list the actual % in the description. Expanding Force specifies the 50% boost under Psychic Terrain, and Psychic lists the chance of lowering Sp. Def as 10%. I’m definitely liking the improved transparency in these sorts of things.

Dunno if this was posted already, but the Champions website confirmed that VP can't be purchased with money! The monetization will probably be restricted to outfits and things like that.

Things I'd pay money for: outfits to look like famous trainers, more trainer customization, pokeball customization, title customization on pokemon, the use of older battle themes remixed/originals. Or even take a page from Pokémon Go and buy a battle pass and you get rewarded with a shiny and/or mythical at the end of it.

I mean I'd think that if anything it is the spirit that they really really really want you to use Home considering they seem to be offering you a small selection of Pokemon that you have to grind out otherwise.

Speaking of, forgot to tack that onto that post, but I think that's how it'll work. Every [TBD] they'll offer a new crop of Pokemon. If nothing else limiting it to the 10 shown would be....a really, really odd set of 10. And all the other footage of that dang Gardevoir sure seems to imply the other Pokemon they were using were probably also rentals.

That [TBD] is another question of course. The rental period is a week, so maybe it's a weekly rotation? Though that's kind of slim for a mere 10 Pokemon. Maybe the more you do stuff the more options per period you unlock? There is an offhand reference to "other places" to earn points so I assume that's the non-PVP content; maybe you can earn more optoins to the rental cycle that way or something.

That would be very bizarre because I think the initial reveal in the previous Presents had Megas and Tera Pokemon in the footage, which while not in-game would be a very odd marketing decision if the Super Mechanics weren't going to be a selling point and thus included out the gate vs an update.

Hey here's a likely stupid question: Is Champions a F2P game?

Like that's felt like the general assumption about it, because Phone, but also...the website doesn't say anything about that. The trailer doesn't say anything about it (maybe I missed some minor detail). The initial announcement doesn't mention it. Doesn't seem like either of the official uploads mention it in their description.

Is it mentioned in like....a PR statement I didn't see, or, something?

I was personally hoping that vbucks cost money and that there was a battle pass to incentivise Nintendo to add content regularly. Without it I expect much less customization for outfits, pokeball stickers etc

But it does look sweet. I'm at work and haven't watched the video did it include anything more than "2026"?

Showdown looks cooked tbh with them not selling vbucks it doesnt seem different enough from showdown to expect people to buy it/subscribe when sd is right there?

people will buy it/subscribe because it's an official pokemon product where you can bring your guys from other games and play in 3D.

Feels so damn good to have actual clothing options outside of school uniforms (and a tracksuit / jinbei here or there) again man. Also, the hair color options seem more complex than usual. I just learned the word “balayage” from the official Z-A site, lol. (Which, fun fact, is the second time a Kalos game has taught me a new word — shout-out to the random X & Y NPC in Frost Cavern for introducing me to “bivouac” twelve years ago.)

lysandre only failed because he didn't have a good enough gaming chair

Lysandre, of all people, a plebeian…

Theorymon raised a good point on this in that removing these extra neutral natures likely deconfirms any chance of the Battle Palace/Frontier making a full return in Champions. In case anyone wanted that back or anything.

I'm definitely not holding my breath on Frontier stuff but it's possible that the other natures are available just only if you transfer in. Just no reason to display them for a rental Pokemon.

And depending how transfers into the game even work, a would-be Frontier mode would just be made with that in mind.

Why would they even delete the neutral natures lol. I know we didn't need 5 of them (or did we because of some weird programming quirk?), but it's such a nothingburger.
