AAA [GP 0/1]Regenvest Primarina

[SET]
RegenVest (Primarina) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Relaxed Nature
- Moonblast
- Flip Turn
- Psychic Noise
- Energy Ball / Surf

[SET COMMENTS]
An excellent type combination, good natural bulk and access to Flip Turn allow Primarina to function as a solid RegenVest user in the tier. Psychic Noise hits Desolate Land Iron Moth and Moltres for a good chunk of damage and denies recovery as well. Energy Ball is useful against Swampert, Manaphy and opposing Primarina. This moveslot may also be swapped for Surf or Hydro Pump, to provide a second powerful STAB option for more reliable neutral damage against Corviknight and Skarmory. This set runs a Speed-reducing nature and 0 Speed IVs to ensure Primarina is the slowest Pokemon on the field and can safely pivot to bring in teammates using Flip Turn.

RegenVest Primarina performs well as a bulky pivot on offensive archetypes due to its excellent mixed defensive profile, checking tier staples both on the physical and special side. Although it cannot learn Knock Off unlike other RegenVest Water types, Primarina is able to counter the likes of Roaring Moon, Chien-Pao, Great Tusk and Zamazenta with its Fairy typing, as well as handling specially offensive threats such as Gholdengo and Latios quite well.
This set must be wary of potential Knock Offs that can greatly cripple its ability to take special hits if it loses the Assault Vest, so Primarina appreciates support from teammates like Great Tusk and Corviknight to absorb Knock Off; they can also aid Primarina with entry hazard removal. Strong Electric-type attackers like offensive Iron Hands, Zapdos and Sandy Shocks can pressurise and break through Primarina, which could use Electric-immunity support from a Great Tusk, Iron Treads and Volt Absorb Corviknight. Desolate Land users such as Heatran or Moltres can deny Primarina Flip Turn pivots and immediately threaten it with Solar Beam. Primordial Sea Zapdos or Well Baked Body Gholdengo can switch into these threats and give Primarina safe entry.

On RegenVest sets, Psychic can be used instead of Psychic Noise for a chance to 2HKO Iron Moth but is generally less useful due to the latter's denial of HP recovery. Hydro Pump can also be considered for more immediate damage on RegenVest sets in place of Energy Ball or Surf.
Primarina does have a few niche sets, mainly a physically defensive set with the Stamina ability and Leftovers. This set aims to rack up stat boosts through its ability and the move Calm Mind to sweep with the move Stored Power.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric Types**: Electric-types like Zapdos and Sandy Shocks force out Primarina with their strong attacks, often 2HKOing RegenVest sets and OHKOing offensive Primarina.

**Desolate Land Users**: Desolate Land users such as Heatran and Moltres can deny Primarina Flip Turn and take all of Primarina's attacks relatively easily.

**Grass-Types**: Primarina is threatened by several Grass-types that are staples on teams in the tier. On the physical side, it is threatened by Power Whip from the Ogerpon formes and Flower Trick from Sword of Ruin Meowscarada. On the special side, Sinistcha threatens Primarina with Matcha Gotcha and can often KO it after a Calm Mind boost.

[OVERVIEW]
RegenVest Primarina is a solid defensive pivot for a team with its unique Water/Fairy typing, access to slow Flip Turn, and good coverage in the likes of Energy Ball and Psychic Noise. Powerful STAB options in Moonblast and Surf allow Primarina to output decent burst damage off of its base 126 SpAtk stat, even without any extra investment. It serves as a check to physically offensive threats like Chien-Pao and Roaring Moon, while also being able to handle a large portion of the tier's special attackers. [I am not exactly sure where to include this sentence, but it feels pertinent to include] Primarina is, however, the only RegenVest user in the tier without access to Knock Off, meaning it functions differently to what is generally expected of this archetype.

STAB Moonblast and Flip Turn are the two anchors of this set, enabling solid damage as well as slow pivoting for Primarina. you want to start the analysis saying what role prim plays. for example, in a defensive Great Tusk analysis, i would say "Thanks to its high HP and Defense, amazing utility moves, and decent defensive typing, Great Tusk functions as an entry hazard remover and a defensive staple for many team structures." Moonblast hits Chien-Pao, Roaring Moon, Great Tusk and other tier staples for super-effective damage, and stab moves dont require explanation, unless its something like Flip Turn as that does something unique Flip Turn enables Primarina to bring in teammates safely. Dragon immunity allows Primarina to safely 1v1 Latios variants not carrying Thunderbolt, and it can hold its own against the likes of Gholdengo, Deoxys-S, Iron Moth and Heatran. Psychic Noise in particular, allows it to hits most Iron Moth for a good chunk of damage and deny denies recovery to Gholdengo and Heatran Moltres heatran only has lefties for recovery so that rly isnt a good mention, however moltres is prim's no1 check so that needs to be mentioned as well. Energy Ball is useful against Swampert and opposing Primarina. would add manaphy This moveslot may also be swapped for Surf, that provides a second powerful STAB option for more reliable neutral damage against Corviknight and Skarmory. Maximum investment into Defense allows Primarina to bolster defences across the board to augment its boosted Special Defense from the Assault Vest. most of the ev spread is self explanatory, however i would explain why primarina is running a -Speed nature and 0 speed ivs

start by saying what structures primarina is seen on and why
Pokemon like Roaring Moon and Chien-Pao, while countered by Primarina, greatly benefit from its ability to offensively pressure Great Tusk, Zamazenta and Other physical Fighting-types. Physically defensive mons like Pecharunt appreciate Primarina's ability to switch into Dark-type attacks that it threaten it; similarly for Ground- and Rock-types like Great Tusk or Iron Boulder respectively that are threatened by Water-type moves. Latios and other Psychic types such as Iron Crown do benefit from Primarina's defensive profile, but Primarina users must be wary of potenial Knock Offs that can greatly cripple its RegenVest strategy. Strong Electric-type attackers like offensive Iron Hands, Electrode-Hisui Zapdos and Regieleki Sandy Shocks can pressurise and break through Primarina, which could use Electric-immunity support from a Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and or a Volt Absorb Corviknight. Desolate Land users such as Heatran or Iron Moth Moltres can deny Primarina Flip Turn pivots and, in the latter's case, immediately threaten it with Sludge Wave Solar Beam. Primordial Sea Zapdos or Barraskewda can help to control the weather and and Well-Baked Body Gholdengo can switch into these threats for give Primarina safe entry. Primarina greatly benefits from having teammates to absorb Knock Off such as Rocky Helmet Corviknight, and having hazard removal either through Defog or Rapid Spin so that it can repeatedly enter the field of battle.

Primarina could run Surf over Energy Ball in its last moveslot, which does give up valuable coverage and requires support from a teammate to run. However, that option allows Primarina to utilise its powerful STAB combination for more reliable coverage, notably against Steel-types like Gholdengo, which completely walls the Energy Ball set. Psychic could be used as on option on RegenVest sets offers a 15BP increase over Psychic Noise since it has a chance to 2HKO Iron Moth, but it is generally less useful due to the latter's denial of HP recovery. This Primarina set generally sees little variation as the moves selected have been selected for specific use cases. mention hydro pump as an option on regenvest sets

Checks and Counters
===================

Zapdos/Regieleki/Offensive Iron Hands: **Electric-types:** These Pokemon Electric-types like Zapdos and Sandy Shocks can force out Primarina with strong Electric-type attacks that often 2HKO at most, sometimes OHKOing Primarina even through its Assault Vest. Having a counter to these Pokemon is near essential if running RegenVest Primarina. RegenVest Primarina while OHKOing offensive variants of Primarina. for future reference, you just list the checks and counters, not solutions to those checks and counters

**Desolate Land Users:** As mentioned earlier, Desolate Land users such as Heatran and Iron Moth Moltres can deny Primarina Flip Turn and threaten it with Magma Storm(for trapping) or Sludge Wave(which does high damage to Primarina) respectively. take all of Primarina's attacks relatively easily.

Ogerpon: **Grass-types:**
All four Ogerpon formes see varying degrees of usage in AAA and are a threat to Primarina; this primarily takes the form of Desolate Land Ogerpon-H and Power Whip from any of the forms that can OHKO Primarina. Running a strong Grass resist such as Corviknight or Moltres is crucial to improve this matchup for the team. rewrite this to include grass-types like meow and sinistcha, keep in mind the comment above

Knock Off: Knock Off users abound in the tier, with Roaring Moon, Great Tusk, and all other RegenVest users carrying the move. Losing its Assault Vest cripples the effectiveness of this Primarina set to a large extent, which means this Primarina set needs to play around Knock Off very carefully. the checks and counters section applies to all primarina sets, and other sets dont really have to worry about knock off

[SET COMMENTS]
An excellent type combination, good natural bulk, and rounded coverage options all come together for Primarina to function as a solid RegenVest user in the tier. Flip Turn enables Primarina to bring in teammates safely, and its bulk allows it to absorb damage and create offensive pressure with its powerful special attacks. Psychic Noise hits most Iron Moth for a good chunk of damage and denies recovery to Gholdengo and Moltres as well. Energy Ball is useful against Swampert, Manaphy and opposing Primarina. This moveslot may also be swapped for Surf, that provides a second powerful STAB option for more reliable neutral damage against Corviknight and Skarmory. Alongside maximising physical bulk, this set runs a Speed-reducing nature and 0 Speed IVs to ensure Primarina is the slowest Pokemon on the field and pivots can safely bring in teammates, who do not have to take an attack on switching in.

RegenVest Primarina performs well on teams where it is not the sole progress-maker, instead filling as a bulkier piece on offensive archetypes so that it can soak damage, exert pressure and eventually pivot out to safely bring in more threatening teammates. Primarina does not get access to Knock Off, unlike other RegenVest Pokemon, and works well as a pivot on offensive teams which require heavy pivoting and safe entry for their breakers. Pokemon like Roaring Moon and Chien-Pao, while countered by Primarina, greatly benefit from its Primarina's ability to offensively pressure Great Tusk, Zamazenta and Other physical Fighting-types. Physically defensive mons like Pecharunt appreciate Primarina's ability to switch into Dark-type attacks that threaten it; similarly for Ground- and Rock-types like Great Tusk or Iron Boulder respectively that are threatened by Water-type moves. Latios and other Psychic types such as Iron Crown do benefit from Primarina's defensive profile, but Primarina users must be wary of potential Knock Offs that can greatly cripple its RegenVest strategy, so it benefits from having teammates to absorb Knock Off such as Corviknight and Great Tusk, which can also aid Primarina through entry hazard removal. Strong Electric-type attackers like offensive Iron Hands, Zapdos and Sandy Shocks can pressurise and break through Primarina, which could use Electric-immunity support from a Great Tusk, Iron Treads and Volt Absorb Corviknight. Desolate Land users such as Heatran or Moltres can deny Primarina Flip Turn pivots and, in the latter's case, immediately threaten it with Solar Beam. Primordial Sea Zapdos or Well Baked Body Gholdengo can switch into these threats and give Primarina safe entry. Primarina greatly benefits from having teammates to absorb Knock Off such as Rocky Helmet Corviknight, and having hazard removal either through Defog or Rapid Spin so that it can repeatedly enter the field of battle.

Primarina does have a few niche sets, mainly a physically defensive set with the Stamina ability and the leftovers item. This set aims to rack up stat boosts through its ability and the move Calm Mind to sweep with the move Stored Power. Primarina is, however, generally outclassed by Latios as a user for this strategy.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric Types**: Electric-types like Zapdos and Sandy Shocks force out Primarina with their strong attacks, often 2HKOing RegenVest sets and even OHKOing offensive Primarina.

**Electric Types**: Electric-types like Zapdos and Sandy Shocks force out Primarina with their strong attacks, often 2HKOing RegenVest sets and even OHKOing offensive Primarina.

Despite not getting access to Knock Off, Primarina combine the sentences to make it flow more smoothly, and less repetitive. "Prim doesnt have knock, but in exchange..." counters the likes of Roaring Moon, Chien-Pao, Great Tusk and Zamazenta with its Fairy typing, as well as handling most specially offensive threats such as... relatively easily. This gives RegenVest Primarina a crucial niche and a genuine reason to be picked from the gamut of RegenVest users in the tier, none of which provide such defensive coverage.

Energy Ball is useful against Swampert, Manaphy and opposing Primarina. This moveslot may also be swapped for Surf, that provides a second powerful STAB option for more reliable neutral damage against Corviknight and Skarmory. This set runs a Speed-reducing nature and 0 Speed IVs to ensure Primarina is the slowest Pokemon on the field and can safely pivot to bring in teammates using Flip Turn.

RegenVest Primarina performs well as a bulky piece pivot on offensive archetypes due to its excellent mixed defensive profile, checking tier staples both on the physical and special side. It can soak damage, exert pressure and eventually pivot out to safely bring in more threatening teammates. unnecessary Primarina does not get access to Knock Off, unlike other RegenVest Pokemon Water-types, and works well as a pivot on offensive teams which require heavy pivoting and safe entry for their breakers.

Other Options
=============

Primarina does have a few niche sets, mainly a physically defensive set with the Stamina ability and the leftovers item Leftovers. This set aims to rack up stat boosts through its ability and the move Calm Mind to sweep with the move Stored Power.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric Types**: Electric-types like Zapdos and Sandy Shocks force out Primarina with their strong attacks, often 2HKOing RegenVest sets and even this isnt rly a surprise OHKOing offensive Primarina.
