Welcome everyone to the debut of a new project in this community: the Random Battles Ladder Achievements Project!
As we all know, grinding for hours and hours on ladders is one of the favorite activities of the people in this community and it's finally time to have a dedicated project that hopes to create something cool and fun for everyone involved.

We have some news this week!

The last seven days have been quite useful to understand what worked and what should be changed for the achievements. Pretty much all the challenges seemed to be feasible... maybe too feasible. At the same time, Shapeshifter has proven to be the toughest of the bunch by a clear margin because finding Ditto is not as easy as we thought and copying 4 pokemon en route to win the match are additional elements of difficulty. In a similar way, the "In Cold Blood" Side Quest has probably registered less kills than we expected. Therefore, we have decided to make the following adjustments starting from this week:

1) The Fun Challenges have a minimum elo required
2) The Fun Challenges require you to win the match in order to get the achievement
3) We'll try to formulate challenges that are less pokemon-specific and more group-targeted

Now, all these changes don't mean that we won't have exceptions in the future but they do represent general guidelines we are trying to follow from now on. There is another thing we want to add to hopefully make clearing challenges a tad more difficult and, most importantly, to discourage people from mass forfeiting games, but this might happen next week or in a future cycle.

Ok, enough rambling for now! Let's take a look at what week 2 has in store for the players!

Mini Marathon: Be the person to get the most points in the mini marathon!

Specifics:
On Saturday, we’ll run back to back to back Spotlight tournaments in the room for 12 hours! We'll start <t:1755342000:f>and finish <t:1755385200:f>. We'll have 1 tournament every 1h and 30 minutes, for a total of 8 over the course of the mini marathon at 12-24). Be the person who gets the most points!

General Rules

Here are some general guidelines we have reprised from other LAPs and adapted to the current project:
  1. All battles must take place on the Spotlight Ladder on Pokemon Showdown.
  2. Please give proof that you completed the challenge to validate your achievement. Our preferred way to do so is by sending replays in the dedicated thread. This is particularly true for the Fun Challenges, while screenshots are normally better to show you have cleared the Standard Challenges. In any case, hosts will specify how to submit the results in case of very unique challenges.
  3. You can get several achievements from the same battle/account, unless explicitly stated otherwise. I'll like your post once I've taken it into account.
  4. Achievements can be submitted in PM to me if you want the account you used to remain inconspicuous; I will be posting them in the thread (giving your Smogon username) myself. Please only do it as little as possible though; it's less fun.
  5. Past performances will not be counted; any submission needs to be verifiable on the server (by checking at the rank, WL, and such) at the moment they are posted. I.e. if the LAP starts on August 4th, you can't send a screenshot of you topping the ladder on August 1st to claim one of the Standard Challenges.
  6. You are obviously allowed to update your posts to showcase you have improved your records on the ladder (this is especially important for the Standard Challenges but it could also involve other challenges) as long as you do so before the deadline.
  7. Naturally, don't try to cheat, for instance by submitting an achievement with an account that's not yours and yours alone. In addition to that, don't mass forfeit games on the ladder just to speed up the process of obtaining the achievements. If caught doing so, you might get exposed and made fun of (but also infracted of course).
  8. Achievement levels may be subject to change at host's discretion.

The Prizes

:serperior: Standard Challenges: The person with the most Standard Challenges won is going to get room prize winner in the Random Battles room for one month. In case of tie, that reward will go to the person who has registered the highest peak elo.

:arbok: Fun Challenges: Everyone who clears all the Fun Challenges of a specific week will gain 3 tokens to be used to start a tournament in the Random Battles room. If no one clears all the challenges, we'll give 2 tokens to the person(s) who have gotten the most achievements.

:sandaconda: Side Quests: For the Side Quests, the idea is to have a predetermined set of unique prizes that will be randomly assigned to the winners of the challenges. People won't know these prizes in advance but they will have to wait for the last week, when the results of the roll will get publicly announced.

if only the ladder had more people so I don't match someone 300 points lower........
Yeah the new ELO requirements feel a tiny bit high with how erratic the ladder can be at times - whether that be it being dead or the only match ups are lower elo one's. (For me they're all low cause I'm trash)

Not bringing this up to make it easier so everyone can win etc but I'm not as good when trying to play hyperblitz and the actual elo strength of opponents isn't really accurate right now - with people creating new accounts for the 15 wins in a row challenge or trying to join in on the challenges. I like the idea and think it's necessary for certain challenges being a bit more difficult. But the 1150 mark is really tricky right now. Lastly it may create a barrier to entry for people discovering this new achievement project - i could be totally wrong about that but since it's only week 2, I would hate to see this lose momentum or potential growth of participants because of that. These are just my thoughts/feedback from my personal experience & being a scrub. 35Q71N This is still awesome and all the work you're putting into this is still so appreciated & want to continue contributing/participating! :) Really don't want what I'm saying to come off the wrong way.

As always, thank you for the feedback :)

I tried to put a low bar for the minimum elo required because, even if I do agree that the ladder is not incredibly active and it's not that easy to find opponents, I felt like 1100 (for the challenges I consider a tad more difficult) could be a good threshold. If you are relatively high on the ladder, you should have an easier time avoiding people in the 1000's, some of which are just new players who can't really offer you a good challenge (that's what I noticed for those who cleared Blitzkrieg, for example). I admit I didn't think about LAP contestants creating new alts but I think this will hopefully have a limited impact on the chances you can have of clearing these achievements. However, there is another thing I want to test for week 3, depending on how the players perform this week and if they struggle too much with the challenges

Of course and thank you for the explanation! I'm totally with you - this is still such a trial & error/experiment and then adjust learn from the previous week. For example I see you went with the in depth explanations for the challenges this week, which is much appreciated :)
