Tera Type: Steel / Electric
[SET COMMENTS]
Latios is a fearsome offensive threat in the UU metagame, primarily because of its already strong STABs being further bolstered by Soul Dew. Recover is important in this set, as it gives Latios longevity, which allows it to be directly pivoted on the likes of Keldeo and Thundurus-T. It also allows it to outlast many of its checks, such as Tinkaton and Heatran. The last moveslot can be whatever your teams needs. Surf can be used to threaten Excadrill and Heatran. Thunderbolt can be used as a midground play to reliably threaten Slowking, without sacrificing too much momentum. Finally, Flip Turn can be used to gain momentum on predicted switches, such as Flip Turning on a Slowking to go into a Lokix.
Latios can also opt in to use Life Orb, which sacrifices some longevity in exchange for more wallbreaking power. For example, Life Orb Thunderbolt cleanly 2HKOs Slowking, Life Orb Surf cleanly 2HKOs even defensive Heatran, and will just one-shot a Tornadus-T if his boots get removed. Tera Steel is used on this set for defensive purposes, as it allows it to take on Lokix and Ogerpon-C easier. It also allows Latios to gain an immunity to Toxic, and in combination with Levitate allows Latios to completely wall Clodsire. Tera Electric is also an option when running Thunderbolt, boosting it higher. It also allows it to better take on Tornadus-T as well as absorb Thunder Wave, easing its entrance opportunities.
Latios fits on offensive structures that can benefit from a strong breaking presence. One good teammate is Lokix. Lokix is able to bring Latios safely against Skarmory and Coballion. In return, you can Flip Turn on a predicted Slowking or Tyranitar, and bring in your Lokix safely, which is much appreciated by Latios. They also both easily overwhelm Tinkaton for one another, and Lokix is able to remove a potential Assault Vest from Tornadus-T. In general, pivots like Tornadus-T and Zarude are generally able to bring Latios safely into the battlefield. Zarude can also check Slowking and Excadrill for Latios, and Tornadus-T gives you an entrance point versus Rotom-W, as well as clicking Knock Off versus Slowking, which helps Latios tremendously. Spikes setters like Chesnaught and Skarmory fit well with Latios, as chipping away at the opponent for Latios is appreciated, and they also appreciate the Heatran check that Latios provides.
