Welcome to the very first installment of DPP World Cup! All discussions and communications will happen on DPP Discord, so if you plan to participate in any way I strongly encourage you to join it. Besides, presence in the discord is mandatory for all captains for communication and activity purposes.
In this tournament based on Smogon's WCoP, you will rally up to fight alongside your countrymen for the glory of your nation and the coveted title of World Champions of DPP! The winning team will also be awarded a team custom avatar, courtesy of PS admins!
This is the thread to sign up for DPP World Cup captaincy. This is going up prior to player signups so that we can have some idea of what teams will be competing this year. If you want to lead a team this year you must post here.
The format for the whole tournament will be as follows:
The tournament will consist of 16 teams composed of a total of 8 to 10 players: 6 starters + 2 to 4 substitutes. Each team is required to have at least one captain, and is allowed to appoint a second one if they so desire. Captains are allowed to play.
In the first stage of the tournament, the 16 teams will be split into 4 pools of 4 teams each. During three weeks, each week you will face a different opposing team from your pool in the 6v6 format above. There will be standings for each pool where your rank depends on the results vs the other teams: a win awards you 3 points, a tie awards you 1 point, and a loss awards you no point. The first two teams of each pool at the end of these three weeks will then move on to non-seeded playoffs, which I'll explain in the paragraph below. In order to make every single series more impactful, wins/losses differential for each match will be used to break three-way ties configurations, in other words winning 5-1 instead of 4-2 can make the difference. If a tie persists through points and W/L differential, a 3v3 tiebreaker will occur between the tied teams to decide which one moves on. To be clear, we will only count series results, i.e winning 2-0 or 2-1 vs your opponent will not change a thing.
Playoffs are not seeded. Therefore, team pairings will be drawn randomly for each of Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. Again, these are all 6v6 format, with a 3v3 tiebreaker in case of a 3-3 score.
On activity decisions: They will be handled in a similar way than PLs, i.e activity wins will only be handed as last resort. Don't fish for them, be transparent about your players' activity and most importantly, communicate with the other captains and with the hosts.

Important: The tournament is capped at 16 teams. Should there be more than 16 candidates, we reserve the right to ask certain regions to provide a preliminary / approximate roster so that we can verify they will be able to field a competent enough roster.
