Pokémon Legends: Z-A General Discussion

can I just be blatant and say that I really don't think people should be talking so openly about leaked/datamined content in here? Leak talk was banned for the base game so I don't see why the hell people are talking about DLC leaks so carelessly now. At the very least have some decency to put it in a spoiler tag or something

Yes… please… beat me to it.

Even with after the base game being out I’m a little annoyed that I was spoilered about Diancie and
Mewtwo
being in the games data as planned events. Though they were obvious candidates and wouldn’t have surprised me its still frustrating when I try and avoid leaks as much as possible to be spoiled on here whilst reading a non spoiler thread, rather than a random YT thumbnail or reddit post title.

Did the Diancie event and definitely rolled my eyes at Emma just brushing past how Diancie reminds her of the sundial. Knowing Sycamore spoke with AZ was nice, though.

Was kind of funny that Diancie did not actually matter at all to the actual Diancie quest. I guess it was just here following our mega stone.

Putting apricorn balls this frequently in the pvp rewards is such a great idea. I’ve felt for a long time we have a problem where a number of players will breed tons of Pokemon, but never actually put their Pokemon to the test (myself included). Here’s hoping the diluted, more relaxed nature of a game mode where the stress of winning is diluted by a 4 player battle and these sick Pokeball rewards entice a few more people to kick back and enjoy online free for alls.

Ah yes I did notice this whilst ranking up earlier. It also gives a big incentive for people to continue to play post reaching Rank A, since bottle caps are so rare ingame.
This looks like the first DLC that looks actively worse than the base game rather than improving on it. Let’s get my biggest gripe out of the way- this map looks absolutely terrible. I see what they were going for with the washed out grey color of the city and the void, but, like… it doesn’t look good at all, it lacks character and personality and I don’t think any changes to the actual overworld are going to fix that. I also think Korrina’s new design is a little out there, but maybe that will make more sense in the context of the story when this releases in… December!? Shoutouts to whoever predicted this earlier. That just makes me worry more about this DLC being extremely rushed, however. At least the base game I’ve been having much more fun than I expected to. This… this just looks unpolished at first glance.

As for the new Megas, Chimecho is the only one of the two I actually like. Baxcalibur didn’t need a buff and on top of that it’s yet another ranked award anyway. Not to mention the design is hardly that different from the “original” that only came out three years ago by the way. Remember when content wasn’t locked behind a subscription service? At least it wasn’t content I would have cared for anyway.

Do I have anything positive to say? Actually, yes. A (likely) untimed Diancie event is a W I would say, and Chimecho was arguably one of the Pokémon most in need of a significant buff even more than that other Hoenn Pokémon people wanted to get a Mega Evolution. We don’t know what Ability it will have yet, and I do worry that losing Levitate could be a marginal nerf for it, but we already have another Levitate Psychic/Steel Pokémon in the National PokéDex anyway (the Bronzor family) so a different Ability and different base stats could help set Mega Chimecho apart. The story also seems like it has potential to be interesting and build on some existing characters though I worry about how long it will actually be. Finally, the addition of Pokémon above Level 100 being executed this way I think is a smart call for the sake of online battles. Not much to say there other than that the higher level Pokémon will probably be capped for Ranked Battles.

5/10 DLC overall, probably won’t buy this right away

Like seriously? I don’t get how someone can be so down on something not even released yet and be calling it the worst.
Reminds me of all the people who were badmouthing ZA and then surprise, found it to be enjoyable after actually buying it and playing it.

Just so much negativity prior to a release is a big annoyance for me in the online Pokemon (and wider videogame) communities these days.

I’m honestly curious about the Mega Baxcalibur release and it being tied to season 4. Season 4 is January, which feels like it’s when they’re going to move attention over to Champions.

Obviously they did the same for the Kalos starters, but part of me wonders if it’s available in the DLC directly and if Season 4 is how anyone who doesn’t get the DLC can grab it later.

I also thought it'd be January but as corrected in the news thread, Season 4 should start shortly after the DLC comes out.

The website clarifies it's not available during regular gameplay.

seasons have been 19 days not a month, the end of season 3/start of season 4 is most likely around December 15th which is 5 days after the DLC

they might announce 2 more megas locked behind the ranked mode in this dlc

season 5 would start around January 3rd and season 6 would start around January 22nd

this is ofcourse if they do the 19 days for each season they did for season 1 and 2, its possible season 3 could be shorter and end on the 10th so that you can get Baxcalibur on day 1 of the DLC?

lol. I’d love to see Mimi randomly be like lv200 in the DLC so it has relevance.

Also
Who do we think Eris, Sedna and Nix are? Could these be expanded on in the DLC (hopefully), or were they just throwaway references?

Oh, you mean like I did? :woop: All jokes aside, What I’m actually doing is rating it low on purpose, see. I’d rather set my expectations low and be surprised later as opposed to get my hopes up early and be disappointed, if that makes sense. I think what I was trying to say with my post was that the first impression of the trailer was what I was trying to rate. I just did a really bad job at clarifying that, so I apologize.

Are the visits to Hyperspace Lumiose timed? Like similar to the battle royale timings where we get a certain amount of time to go in, do what we gotta, collect points and then get thrown out?

We have to find the distortions over Lumiose so it might be that each one takes us to a different area but can only be accessed at different times?

there's a calorie counter that's rapidly depleting in the trailers so I'm going with yeah

you gotta eat enough donuts to level up your pokemon beyond 100 and have enough calories to do whatever you wanted to do in hyperspace lumiose

The use of the word “distortion” in your post and in the trailer immediately reminded me of space-time distortions in Hisui, so it’s definitely possible. I don’t think it will be like how the Day-Night cycle is for the base game, rather, if I had to guess, there will be various “entry points” into Hyperspace Lumiose that appear and disappear over time. It could be neat if each of them led to a different section of the Hyperspace version of the city, meaning you’d have to “unlock” every entry point to explore the whole map, but it’s just as likely that Hyperspace Lumiose is all one individual map and you can’t stay in there forever at a time.

I assume it's sectioned off like it is because you'll be primarily dealing with the parts of the city that weren't turned into Wild Zones.
I feel like there was a part of the trailer that had you NOT have the kcal timer, so it might be more of a soft timer before you start getting owned by level 126 charmanders.

AYO FINALLY MEGA CHIMECHO LET'S GOOOOOOO! Honestly, as a freak who unironically really likes the chingling line, this is really hype!! I'd be really curious on the ability too. The dex entry could lean into a noice based ability (which could potentially go really well with stab psy noice and now boomburst!) With that said, keeping levitate would be pretty good as well, especially with the new secondary steel type! Whatever it is, I'm just so happy we got em. I really enjoy megas that go back and give average mons a new lease in life (even if it doesn't always pan out perfectly...)

Oh there's also a mega baxcalibur. Huh. Kinda funny how they skipped right to the most recent pseudo. Hydreigon/goodra/kommo-o/dragapult fans be darned.
