SPOILERS! Legends ZA Data Dumps - Adding Info to OP

I'm adding my thoughts (probably not gonna happen) on some possible future legends ZA nonsense.

So, Volcanion, that awkward Mythical that didn't come out yet? That dog-toy is gonna be in Wild Zone 6 after some battles and nonsense, replacing the Alpha Binacle's spot. (I dunno, I couldn't think of anything fitting.)

Mewtwo is gonna be deeper into Lysandre Labs (maybe Grisham and Griselle give you a special key card to access a hidden area?) where you find the one and only Mewtwo in a chamber (don't know what else would make sense). You free it and you battle it to capture it.

I feel like Legends ZA is just tryna get people to shut up about 'oh we didn't get these mythicals in 5 years', so I'll add some extras underneath this.

Genesect will be in Hyperspace Lumiose, replacing Mewtwo in Lysandre Labs. (You can also find the drives scattered around the labs.)

Celebi and Zarude are NOT being in the game.

Deoxys is a slight maybe, maybe some nonsense of 'alternate reality' and 'virus lumiose' and it appears. Probably not, but luckily I got mine from ORAS.

Victini SOUNDS like it'll be in the game, I have no thoughts on where to place it.

Marshadow IS GOING TO BE IN THE GAME or we will riot (why would they have Zeraora and Magearna?)

Pecharunt, due to being new, is not gonna be in the game (reasonable though.)

these are only my thoughts, they're probably all wrong.

Well we know Mewtwo has a Mystery Gift event in the wings so that's taken care of.

We also know from scrubbed entries that Darkrai, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Magearna, Marshadow, Zeraora, Meltan, & Melmetal are the Mythics that'll be added with the DLC.
Darkrai & Zeraora have boss fights so we'll at least get those and Magearna's mega probably means a side quest for it. Everyone else? Who knows. Doubt we get access to all of them so maybe they just do another pokemon scrap campaign in Japan.

& even more shrugging about Volcanion. Ideally that one is still just available via the DLC since Diancie is a base game Mystery event and Hoopa is the DLC mascot. Honestly should have given it a mega too...

les go we finally get victini I don't needa hack anymore

On a separate note, for Mega Stones, MEGA DIMENSION BETTER HAVE MEGA HOENN STARTERS. If it doesn't, I will riot against Gamefreak (mudkip is very epic, my favorite Pokemon.) Before I was on Smogon, I randomly wished Araquanid would get a mega. Now I pray it doesn't, its SO ANNOYING. Instead, lets go with a Mega Whiscash (totally not a biased pick, but srs, it would be epic. If they can SOMEHOW make a mega for Chimecho, they can make one for my boy Whiscash.)

The Hoenn starters are also among the scrubbed entries that correspond to returning Pokémon, so they’ll most likely be back. Given that they’ve officially teased the return of Groudon and Kyogre, I think we can safely assume that every Mega will be in Z-A when all’s said and done. I know Game Freak can be silly sometimes, but they wouldn’t go out of their way to include Primal Groudon and Kyogre but then leave out the Hoenn starters.

Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hoenn starters’ Mega Stones turn out to be Ranked rewards :woo:

Edit: Also, is Victini coming back? It wasn’t among the returning Pokémon in the image that mattyoukhana posted:

the same person that leaked Chimecho and Baxcalibur were the megas to be revealed in that recent trailer claims the hoenn starters are going to be the ranked rewards for season 5, 6, and 7 (blaziken, swampert, sceptile in that order)

Elsewhere I saw someone point out that megas that change type almost all have moves of the new type in their level-up learnset. Chikorita gets disarming voice, barbaracle has brick break and close combat, feraligatr gets breaking swipe and outrage, and clefable learns air slash. Ampharos also learns breaking swipe by level up, Charizard gets a few dragon moves, in ORAS Sceptile got dual chop. Altaria and Audino get fairy moves. Mewtwo gets aura sphere. This is obviously a good idea from a game design perspective, since it's kind of annoying for a mon to gain a new type but not naturally learn any attacking moves of that type.

A notable exception is Pinsir, which does not get any flying moves by level up, but this may be because in XY it had aerialate to turn normal moves (of which it had vice grip, thrash, and double hit) into flying type attacks. They didn't add any flying moves in ZA to compensate for lack of abilities, though. I guess they figured no one would care to use poor Pinsir.

So, for the mons already in game, if we assume that GF won't add any moves to learnsets when the DLC drops, and that they won't consider the moves Alphas come with, then we can scout for possible type changes by looking at the level up moves.

Absol gets shadow claw and Air slash in ZA (both newly added from SwSh), and also has future sight (previously in its SwSh learnset) and of course normal moves in Slash and quick attack. So we could get dark/flying, dark/ghost, or even dark replaced by ghost for pure ghost or even ghost/flying. Or, possibly even ghost/normal: if any mon were to gain Normal type as a mega, a ghost/normal mon seems like a good fit. It meshes well with Absol's yin yang theme, and I can already see the Champions trailer showing an absol mega evolving into mega absol Z to avoid a fighting move. While a dark into ghost/normal would feel a bit like it's copying off of zoroark's homework, I don't think that would deter GF.

Garchomp doesn't really get any additions. It has crunch and slash. So could very well just be another dragon/ground, maybe more specially oriented. Or maybe it pulls an Aggron and loses a type, becoming pure dragon, which would be a first -- I think all other dragon megas are dual-typed. Pure ground is also possible of course, but I think the idea of removing the dragon type from something would give GF's management an aneurysm.

In going from SV to ZA, Lucario has bone rush swapped out for bulldoze, and learns dragon pulse and extremespeed in both games. So, no clear indicator of a potential type change, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went dragon with an eastern dragon look, or even fighting/ground and leaning into the anubis inspiration some more. (I doubt it would lose fighting instead of steel).

Finally, both Meowstic get disarming voice as an attack, while female also gets magical leaf and dark pulse. If this is a pyroar situation despite the different learnsets, then the only dual-type option seems to be psychic/fairy. But Meowstic also seems like a good candidate for just keeping its pure psychic typing.

Now of course, GF can always throw curveballs. They could update learnsets to add moves despite only doing that to fix errors in SV. Maybe some mons will get an -ate ability in Champions and they don't bother adding moves of the changed type to the learnset, just like Pinsir. Or maybe there are shenanigans with new moves learned over level 100, such that the moves stick even if the level is temporary. Or maybe GF just says, "it learns a <whatever> type move by tm, good enough."

They didn't add any flying moves in ZA to compensate for lack of abilities, though. I guess they figured no one would care to use poor Pinsir.
Pinsir got Aerial Ace through tm... which is a step up from LGPE where it simply didn't got any flying moves at all.

Idle thought looking at upcoming TCG cards, kind of funny that you can kind of tell that perhaps they had to compensate for the delay.
I think folks had already figured out that the Owner Pokemon sets were likely filler but the first set of actual Z-A cards, rather than general mega evolution for the lead up, are being put into the high class reprint set. It's not unusual for the japanese reprint sets to get several new cards (iirc, what made up the new cards for Prismatic Evolutions originated from one) but it does stick out a bit more when it's the first set of tie-in cards. Mega Dragonite EX in particular feels like it would have made a proper set headliner, if not Mega Eelektross EX with Canari, rather than headlining a reprint set (poor mega hawlucha & eelektross are just shoevd to the side in the same breath as stellar pikachu, rocket's mewtwo, greninja & mega lucario). After that it seems like the line up is:
-mega zygarde
-mega greninja
-immediate DLC check in with mega raqyuaza
-"abyss eye" had a few ideas thrown around but at this point I think it has to be for Mega Darkrai

I assume they'll try and realign with Gen 10 when it hits (though Gen 9 already had a shift in this, so who knows for sure?) so we'll see them hit some other base-game megas but I think it's easy to envision at least one or two other sets thrown in here to focus on different megas before the Mega Dimensions tie-ins hit. Just funny how it all worked out.
