SV OU first team from a new player. I was experimenting but I was wondering if this is good?

Moltres @ Heat Rock
Ability: Flame Body
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Lax Nature
- Rain Dance
- Flame Charge
- Hurricane
- Sunny Day

Explanation:

Flame charge for speed boost. Hurricane can't miss in rain, and has the opportunity to cause confusion- I added it mainly for more type coverage and variety. if I understand how STAB works (since i'm a newbie,) flame charge gets a boost in power as well due to it's fire typing. sunny day boosts fire moves as well so heat rock increases the turns.

Primarina @ Shell Bell
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Weather Ball
- Calm Mind
- Flip Turn
- Aqua Ring

Explanation:

I chose to use weather ball Primarina because in sunny day, the move becomes fire type which allows Primarina to hurt steel type pokemon. calm mind for the stat boost since weather ball is a special move and I wanted to take advantage of Primarina's special attack.

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rock Slide
- Drain Punch
- Protect
- Healing Wish

Explanation:

Here is where I got more experimental. looking back on it maybe rock slide was not the best choice since Blissey has such a low attack stat. I was trying to take advantage of the flinch chance with serene grace. I chose drain punch so she can regain some of her HP. in the team Blissey would be a defensive mon and a sacrifice for the rest of the team with it's high HP to stall and healing wish for injured teammate.

Darkrai @ Black Glasses
Ability: Bad Dreams
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Disable
- Haze
- Knock Off

Explanation:

I think this is the easiest teammate to understand based on it's moveset. Darkrai was added for coverage and it's access to haze for stat changes, disable, and knock off to get the item off a scary opponent. black glasses will boost it's dark pulse.

Cresselia (F)
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Lunar Dance
- Lunar Blessing
- Psycho Cut
- Thunder Wave

Explanation:

I wanted to take advantage of lunar dance and lunar blessing. if she gets low on HP lunar blessing comes in handy. lunar dance was added because I wanted another chance for a teammate I consider of higher value.

Bellossom
Ability: Chlorophyll
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Baton Pass
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Quiver Dance

Explanation:

Chlorophyll boosts Bellossom's speed with sunny day active to tie back to Moltres's moveset. also a grass type was added to the team for coverage reasons.

Welcome to Smogon!

This team has a lot of holes competitively and would struggle on the ladder. You are correct on how STAB works (1.5x boost if the pokemon shares the type of the move), but Flame Charge itself is only 50 BP and used more for the speed boost than the power itself. The dual Sunny Day / Rain Dance idea is hard to pull off because Sunny Day doesn't boost Flame Charge enough (Flamethrower is basically the same without needed to set up Sunny Day) and then Hurricane gets its accuracy cut in half in the sun. In rain, Flame Charge gets its power cut in half. Combined, Moltres is just lost and can't do anything.

The other sets have similar struggles. One thing to note beyond that is Baton Pass cannot pass stat boosts in most competitive formats. It's legal in the actual games, but that tactic was abused a decade ago to the point of getting banned even in Uber level competition. Your Bellossom set would not be legal in SV OU play.

Feel free to keep experimenting. At this stage, playing the game is the best teacher. Try this team out on Pokemon Showdown (maybe Sludge Bomb on Bellossom over Baton Pass) just to see what works and what doesn't. Note what beats you. Then try that. My sense is at this rate handing you a sample team might help later, but right now the most important thing is to find a safe place to test this team as is.

This article is a good starting point to read, and even though it is a bit dated, the advice still remains solid. Another great place to learn is Battling 101. They require at least a month of activity before you can sign up, but that's enough time to try things and experiment to see what works and what doesn't. Every competitive battler started out with a team exactly like this, myself included. If you ever need resources or places to learn, this site is full of people willing to point you in the right direction.

These sets are unfortunately not good. I'm sorry dude. Baton Pass is banned so idk what it's doing on Bellossom.
yeah, I realized that soon after I added Bellossom to my team. well this post at least serves as a reminder of my mistakes. plus the set doesn't have many defenses, it's just all around not good lol.

tysm for the in depth response! I will definitely be checking out the article mentioned and i've been doing my fair share of research too. actually playing (and, well, losing) is really the best way to learn- thanks again bro

Hey, just a tip! If you want to get into team building, alot of common OU pokemon (and alot of no -ou pokemon) have analysis' you can check out for sample sets and teammates you can play alongside them.
It might be a bit much at first though. Id recommend trying out some other teams, and then maybe trying to build your own after. That's what I did at first
