Resource ADV OU Usage Dashboard

Hi all,

I went through the painstaking process of collating all the Gen 3 Usage, Lead and Moveset files that Smogon provides and converting them into analysable data.
Setting up Power BI to allow it to be scalable was also a pain. This post will showcase some of the findings :)

The Rise of Slop

2025 saw the birth of Slop, created by Shitrock enjoyer and giraffefromholland . A new innovative brand of offense that is aggressive and fluid, utilising Mons that had not been in the OU spotlight for quite a long time (if at all).
:Tyranitar: :Registeel: :Swampert: :Raikou: :Salamence:

Slop Guide here

Fruhdazi (a.k.a Shitrock Enjoyer) went on a fantastic run in Jimvitational 2, ending up at the Grand Finals stage. During his run, he used Slop nearly every round, incorporating heat Mons like Regirock and Machamp along the way. The audience and player base were enthralled, and that began the Slop hype wave that is still running to this day.

8 months on from the beginning of Jimvitational, Registeel, Raikou and Slop are still at the forefront of the ADV metagame. The question is, is Slop as prevalent as it seems (with numbers to back it) , or is the hype being amplified within the bubbles we talk and interact with each other in?

1767114982482.png

Even Fruhdazi seems unsure of whether Slop is as prevalent at the end of 2025..

Since there isn't a way to directly view team usage, I will use Registeel's usage to gauge if Slop is still prevalent.

The answer..

Slop's prevalence and hype is as real as it gets. Registeel's usage has been rising for months on end, and is now sitting at ~11% usage in the higher Glicko portions of the ladder. Interesting to note, Registeel is used more the Glicko increases.

Raikou also saw a notable increase in usage following Fruhdazi's Jimvitational run and is still running strong at the end of 2025. Importantly, its average usage has remained above the standard ~4% cut-off for OU that Smogon typically uses.

Lead Dug Mania

In Jimvitational 1, ABR made the daring decision to lead Dugtrio vs BIHI in Winner's finals. (he lead Dug twice in the Bo3). In the past, people considered Dug Lead to be a meme idea since it could start you off on the backfoot against some of the popular leads like Salamence and Zapdos. However ABR's teambuilding allowed for him to lead Dugtrio without having to worry too much about how to sequence the turns following if the opponent has lead with a problematic Mon for Dug. Lead Dugtrio enables an early trap and kill on most Tyranitar sets, allowing for Weather Reset to occur, allowing his fat team to become even more difficult to break down. Lead Dugtrio also has the bonus of OHKOing the 2 main cheese leads, Jynx and Smeargle. Lead Dugtrio is still relevant and prominent in the current metagame as of the end of 2025.

El Classico Fever
El Classico is a team that was made by Hclat in 2021/2022.
1767117082973.png

1767118510707.png

After I had started playing ADV in late 2023 , with my first games being in Revival 1, I had enjoyed some decent ladder success with some goofy self-made builds and with a Cowboy Dan team I had been generously gifted with.
1767117191331.png

However after a while, I wanted something that was more reliable and would help me break my ladder peak. I had recently seen that HClat had broken the ladder record at the time with El Classico.. So naturally, I went out of my way to grab a reverse engineered version of the team from SPFunkM (godbless).
I broke my ladder peak within 2 weeks. I was a big fan of how it was getting at least decent matchups so often and had the tools to break down basically any team.

Shortly after, I began captaining in Mushi League for the Wishing Star Jirachis , and drafted a team primarily full of non-mainers and HClat himself.

1767117358645.png

Since the team was full of non-mainers I had to pick teams for them often. It was then I decided to tell my players to spam El Classico. The team was amazing for getting at least neutral matchups so often, leaving the games to be decided by the player's skill. With some pointers and painful lessons provided, the team began spamming El Classico every week. And we won. Every week. We went on to win the tournament!

And from that point, others had taken notice to how great this team was. Everyone started using it and spamming it, and every other day someone was asking how to use it or what it was, so the ADV forum team here decided to add it to the Sample teams.. ( </3)

Now there's not a way to view teams directly so I will use the Swampert Refresh usage rate to gauge El Classico's usage. The Mushi League season where I began encouraging EC spam began in February 2024.
1767468922032.png

Refresh's usage went from ~14% in Feb-24 to ~47% by Sep-24. A 336% increase. Also it's quite funny how Refresh starts to see a sharp drop right as Slop entered the scene.

1767468959508.png

Aerodactyl also saw an explosion in usage, though that was more shortlived.

Crazy that a team that had been made years prior would come to prominence and end up playing a large role in shaping the modern metagame.

Choice Band Salamence

Not much to say on this one , sorry Salamence bros, maybe someone can provide an explanation for why this downfall has been so sharp? Or alternatively , why it was so popular in the past.

FWIW, here are the CBMence usage stats since 2018 (as if CBMence were it's own pokemon):

2025 - 3,8%
2024 - 4,03%
2023 - 4,97%
2022 - 5,17%
2021 - 5,3%
2020 - 6,1%
2019 - 5,82%
2018 - 6,4%

While it has seen a clear decline from 2018 - 2024, i feel the perceived decline in 2024 to 2025 is exaggerated by other Salamence sets getting more popular, taking the spots of other mons, and, therefore, decreasing the percentage of Salamences that are running Choice Band

I’m guessing the idea of locking into a band is extremely vise, demanding more positioning which is harder than it looks without preview.

Band Mence has its surprise value, think it can be used on balance that demands more power.

Great post and dashboard! I hope many other people make use of it. Even without going too far into it, there's some really interesting stuff. A simple example I found: since there have been talks around Zapdos A LOT these past week, it's really cool to see a lot of common opinions reflected in the data, such as the pairing of Metagross/Zapdos and Dugtrio/Zapdos becoming less and less popular from 2023 to now (with a peak around April 2024 and a steady decline afterwards), making way for Tyranitar/Zapdos, Swampert/Zapdos and Skarmory/Zapdos, which are common cores in Spikes Offenses.

Just going to post an explanation of some bits as someone has asked what they mean , so best to write them here:

(Percentage) Point Change - The absolute difference between two percentage values [New Value - Old Value].

Eg: If Starmie has 10% usage in January and 20% usage in February, the Point Change is 20% - 10% = 10%.

Percentage Change - The relative difference between two percentage values [(New Value - Old Value)/ Old Value].

Eg: If Starmie has 10% usage in January and 20% usage in February, the Percentage Change is (((20% - 10% )/ 10%) * 100) = 100%.

A - symbol indicates a decrease , and a + symbol indicates an increase.

In the title for some of the pages, [End - Start] can be seen. The charts/tables on these pages will only compare the latest date and the earliest date you have chosen in the Year and Month filters.

Eg: 2022,2023 and 2025 are chosen as the years. January , February, March, November are all chosen as the months. The calculation will ignore everything in between the earliest and latest date in the range chosen. Metagross has 30% usage in January 2022 and 40% in November 2025, so the calculation will be 40% - 30% = 10%.

Pages that have [Yearly Averages] in the title simply have an average value calculated for every year, and charts/tables on these pages will use these yearly averages.

Pages with Charts that have Comparison allow for Multiple Pokémon to be chosen for viewing at the same time. You can choose to view as many Pokémon as you want.

I.e You can view Tyranitar and Salamence's stats at the same time, with each Pokémon having their own line.

Raw is used as a descriptor by Smogon for data that has had no weighting applied.

Real is used as a descriptor by Smogon for data that has had weighting applied, based on the Glicko ( I believe, someone correct me if this is incorrect).

If you have any questions about parts you don't understand or find confusing, feel free to ask for help/clarification

Gen 3 ADV OU Dashboard

I don't remember specifics, especially after a recent brain injury and seizure destroying half of my memories so at this point I'm nota reliable narrator for my own experiences, (healthy and safe just remember little of adv beyond regirock spam, adv draft zard, and losing to abr so bad my mom asked if I was ok), and I can't check cuz I'm not in any of the discords obviously and don't want to try joining them to check, but from what I do remember xtina was important for the El classico recreation of the time and we bounced idea in dm or vc or something. Hclat streamed himself playing El classico a few times so it made it easy cuz I just wrote down numbers I could glean, but that was kinda a version 2 of El classico recreation.

Eventually mielke or mayo or someone of that ilk idr sent me a sea iteration and I have to assume that one is correct or more correct. Idk tho. In the end it's a flexible team that can adapt to alot and it's cute that everyone kinda has their own version for what they value. Personally I think Zapdos is overpowered and pumped spdef a bit on my classico Zapdoses because of that. XD

Good luck in your future mushi and tournament runs fj, if you wanna hmu feel free love u.

I've configured my device to automatically update the dashboard with the new data that drops each month. The dashboard is now a window into the past and a window for the present too :) I've aptly renamed this thread to 'ADV OU Usage Dashboard'
