Pokémon Day 2026 - Pokemon Winds and Waves coming 2027!

I don’t really understand why Raichu X got a quasi-Ability presumably reflecting some function of its real one in Z-A whereas Feraligatr and especially Meganium were left Ability-less when this is what they were packing…?

Game Freak, sometimes I swear lmao
I feel like Raichu X getting the "quasi-ability" was just them having fun like how the swords of justice get boosts out of Sacred Sword

I'll also maybe argue that Mega Meganium kinda already got this just from how Plus Moves worked in Z-A. Solar Beam was basically instant, synthesis heals more. There also wasn't sunny weather anyway... And Mega Feraligatr works just like Megas Pinsir, Salamence, Gardevoir do: they don't

Technically speaking, both Meganium and Emboar have their abilities represented in ZA.

Due to how Plus Moves work, Meganium gets instant Solar Beams in its Mega form.

And Mega Emboar gets to ignore all defensive abilities that are in ZA (Pretend that Mimikyu doesn't exist).

Did some napkin calculations from the numbers shown in the trailer:

VP = free money
winning a battle = 200VP

Recruits: 1 free from a random 10 every day - lasts 1 week
Permanent recruit: 2500VP only from daily selection of 10

change a move 250vp
change nature 500vp
change ability 500vp
add max ev's 330 VP

Held Items:
Berries 400VP x 5 = 2000VP
Mega stones 2000VP

total per mon = 5230VP
total per team = 32980VP

wins needed to make a team = 165 :fukyu: :fukyu: :fukyu:

I'd be surprised if Raichu X doesn't get something crazy like Meganium did to make up for its stats.

As much as I hate P2W, my inner devil's advocate can understand it in theory in this case because of being meant to connect to the console games via Bank.

That said, I'm putting an emphasis on "in theory" because 20 Wins to unlock the Items for a team makes is still a pretty big barrier even if you've paid for the console games! It's probably going to be worse than that because Berries are probably the cheapest items.

Is it safe to assume that HOME support for Legends: ZA is dropping on April 8th alongside Champions? Or was this announced somewhere already and I just didn't see it?
I don't think it has been announced but I would also assume that is the case since the Champions overview trailer claims HOME is one of two ways to obtain Pokemon and cites Z-A as one of the source games, and also you need to transfer ZA-origin mons to get the Chesnaughtite/Delphoxite/Greninjite/Floettite as part of the event campaign.

My assumption is that Home will require an update to properly communicate with Champions and it would be odd to update it "now", then update it again a few weeks later for a game that they are pushing to connect to Champions with.

Free to play mobile games shouldnt be meant to be played alongside a 400$ console, 60$ game and a nintendo online subscription to transfer the mons. At that point its probably cheaper to just buy the in game currency, serebii already has some of the japanese prices for the in game purchases.

And you know mons like urshifu which are only obtainable in ss dlc arent gonna show up to be recruited with the free currency

Also, has there been any mentions of single-player battles in this game at all (Since the other battle simulators had them)? Like a battle facility type of thing at all? There's been like a trillion videos and stuff explaining this game so I can't keep up with it all lol

Nothing they've showed off here, but the stuff with Caraway and Kajima would imply there's probably something. If it's anywhere it'll be behind the Battle Menu but before the Online stuff.

I also kind of think there'd have to be local battles, which they didn't acknowledge I don't think.

it makes sense because they wouldn't want to endanger the reach and sales of the mainline titles, but then like what is the point of champions if it doesn't really even bring in new players? lol
It's so they can have a dedicated program that won't crash during a tournament.

Also if they removed IVs that (theoretically) cuts out a shitton of prep time required for comp players by itself.

wow champions is probably one of the worst mobile games when it comes to reward to price ratio so far, unless they add like repeatable missions that accumulate your vp gains faster. i think even masters has better turn arounds and thats a gacha game lol.

maybe this will age badly but it really does feel like they did this to scare off anyone who was planning to ditch the main franchise in favor of champions. ofc they were always gonna do that but this is like cartoony levels of intimidation lmfao

I end up feeling like Meganium-Mega just has worse Drought, which they were already comfortable giving to a Mega. In a weather face-off, it would still get its preferred weather active except when fighting TTar-Mega specifically because of when Mega activates, and it loses any team-support potential the field condition provides. I don't feel like going from a 3* fire weakness to a 2* is worth it. The concept has some fun potential for a dual-weather set, but Meganium doesn't have the movepool for it.

I feel like by the time of SV, IV management only matters for a Trick Room mons. Which make no mistake, was annoying and they probably should have just added a rusty bottle cap, but otherwise you're probably fine just buying bottle caps and moving on.

Course any time saved on that scenario is also offset by having to buy items and anything else you have to alter outside of the mainline game so....

They do mention missions in passing with the member ship, so I imagine there's "dailies" we just dont' see and then members get extra dailies.

I would sure hope the daily pay outs are enough to at least let you edit a mon, surely....

oh yeah i forgot i made an account here

Anyway, while the VP costs for stuff do seem crazy compared to the rate that you get them, keep in mind that you'll probably either start the game with a good amount or there'll be some sort of single player tutorial that gets you set up (plus different events and stuff), cause it'd be pretty much impossible to start from scratch otherwise. Like, somehow I don't think that the devs expect someone who hasn't ever played competitive pokemon before in their life to get started with just a 0 investment scizor from the daily free recruit (and nothing else) to win 13 times in a single week.

There's still probably more than enough grinding to incentivize getting the battle pass or other home-compatible games, but even the most predatory f2p games out there tend to actually be *free* to *play.*
(until you have constant powercreep that gets out of control by year 3. for a game that just celebrated its 9th anniversary. looking at you, fe heroes)

On the other hand, it will hit Tyranitar with Solar Beams, and Ferrothorn will be eating sun boosted 100 BP Fire Weather Balls even under the rain.

Anyway, the Stadiums were more expensive. I suppose some degree of compatibility with HOME points may be involved as well.

But yeah, this is meant to be a Switch-based game that links with your phone, and also something that without owning a main-series game and the ways to connect to it makes things not as workable.

Because the Stadiums were like that.

Karxrida beat me to it but wow yeah this was literally just made so tournaments would stop crashing. Accessibility to good comps for people without the mainline games looks to be so deep in the toilet that one is left to wonder why they even bothered with a mobile phone version.

On top of everything else that's been said it seems we can kiss any hope of decent single player content goodbye given the overview barely even bringing the idea up. What a grim release man

The official Pokemon.com forums (one user) are celebrating the downfall of Showdown and its bad graphics as we speak.

And Champions is even going to take the iconic DS battle themes too for the other half of its aesthetic.

Quiet Swarm Scizor reigns supreme.

I'm editing this in mid-post but this made me realize that they also gave Scizor max SpA stats too on top. It doesn't start with special moves (Bullet Punch/Feint/Brick Break/Iron Head) and you can't edit the rental set but still, it's the thought that counts that really gives it the human element.

At least Azumarill is in this game. (This was actually shown earlier in a Japanese equivalent screenshot, on the starter pack page with the dupe Whimsicotts, but I didn't point it out yet.)

Also it hasn't been mentioned here yet, but the Nintendo of America twitter mentions this game will have a free Switch 2 graphics update for the gramphics, though the eShop also says the game is untested on the Switch 2 as of now.

Pokémon™ Champions is a brand-new, free-to-start game that focuses on all the strategy and fun of Pokémon battles!

Made for both new and experienced Trainers alike, the game features familiar mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves. You also won't need to wait long to play: Pokémon Champions comes out April 8.

Please watch the video for a deeper look at the game. Some highlights include:

Recruiting Pokémon

Create your team of six Pokémon using the Pokémon HOME app, by recruiting one Pokémon per day in the game, or with the use of Victory Points (more on those later).

Battle basics

Win by reducing the HP of all your opponent's Pokémon to zero. You can swap one Pokémon for another if you're in a bind, or use Mega Evolution to power up your Pokémon.

Battle formats

Use one Pokémon at a time in Single Battles or have Pokémon fight 2-on-2 in Double Battles. There are also three different online* battle modes to try out: Ranked Battles, Casual Battles, and Private Battles.

Pokémon training

Training is key (you are a Trainer, after all). Change a Pokémon's moves or adjust its Abilities, Nature, stat points, and more. There's a lot you can customize, so find a strategy that works for you!

Victory Points

Engaging in battle will earn you Victory Points (or VP). Typically, you can only recruit one Pokémon per day from a random selection, and that Pokémon will only stay recruited for a week. However, by using VP, you can recruit multiple times a day. VP can also be used to add recruited Pokémon permanently to your collection, get items in the Shop, customize your Trainers, and more.
Good luck, out there, everyone! The competition will be heating up soon.

Nintendo.com really cutting to the core of mons gameplay here, reduce the opponent's HP to zero, that's what I've been saying lately.
