NOC Electoral Mafia - Game thread

I don't think it's as overtly charged in europe as it is in NA but the word itself was coined in the USA to refer to a specific type of extrajudicial killing that was overwhelmingly targeted at black men

yeah i had no idea i wasnt really taught in american history, all that was taught in my history books was that america was, well, discovered by europe and then suddenly a few chapters later its a global superpower and everything inbetween is a void lol

europe moment

I (and most reasonable people) wouldn't expect you or anyone to know about this kind of cultural difference, not to nitpick Miyami or anything but the word existed before becoming racially connotated and there's plenty of valid non-racially charged ways to use the word (including games of mafia imo) but you know at the same time it's very fair that it would make people uncomfortable which I understand and I think we want to try and be as welcoming as possible.

so yeah personally I think it's just best to avoid phrases that may offend people and I also think "vote" is much clear way of conveying the same meaning anyways

If someone wants to get some free town points they should put together a doc of everyone's claims.
Shouldn't yet, my role relies on the voting system and the more I vote the better it is, and I can only do it once per game, and if you guys kill who I'm voting for it becomes useless so this is why I'm gonna read the chat and vote on my own a bit before deadline
I guess you are just town but I'm not really sure why you are announcing to the world your plan to this extent, you might as well just tell us that you have a 1x vig when you meet certain conditions.

Hm, it's weird, I think with the numbers in the game clearly town has ways to boost their vote so the game is more of a 13/15vs 4. If the mafia roles are nullifying their own votes then that increases the numbers further. I doubt the mafia has their own ways to increase votes since that would make the game extremely swingy.

BUT

the mafia has a nonstandard kill. so is the catch that they can increase their votes but it's tough for them to kill? and then the kill is sort of a comeback mechanic if they get unlucky early?

maybe we should test Peum's role. I think Peum is town but the role claim is extremely suspect plus role blocked? How would a role block stop their role from working? Unless roleblocks stop passive abilities during the next day

What exactly are you protecting yourself from? The mafia has a non standard kill.
is 2 docs + nonstandard kill really necessary? frels overkill to me you'd think its either or

i did research it a bit after miyami brought it up and agree with everything thats been said here, i shall henceforth be voting instead :toast:

crucially Miyami is an omniguard which actually does have a little more utility for town in the sense that it would block roles that change people's vote total. pulsar is also not really a "doc" they protect X user from being voted out the next day which actually I do think can be in coexistence with Miyami. so Miyami's role has an effect at night and pulsar's has an effect during the day.

okay, both are town, who's next? Carrotman sadly, although I would prefer not to vote them.

I can't decide if AF being grouchy about me is mafia or not, maybe more likely to be mafia than not but still.

I guess at some point I/we/the town have to decide if we want to vibes based vote (reading ability) vs setup based vote. Of course you want to take both into account but I do find that the people I town read based on words (AP, realiti) are in stark contrast to people I town read based on roles (aforementioned pulsar/miyami, peum, tsuki, etc)

I pretty much agree with this. It's the kind of thing I know because I study history and live in NA so culturally it strikes me as way over the line for a low stakes forum game but I wouldn't necessarily expect people in europe to know the history of the term or have the same reaction offhand

anyways, where did pulsar claim her doc was a day protect? I must've missed that.

Gm, just checking in before i go to work
No deaths is interesting, though i'm not 100% surprised. Like i mentioned in a previous post, i thought we might not see a traditional immediate nightkill
I'm trying to defend you but you really need to give us some content, this pop-in is kinda sus because you just repeated what everyone else said

great post, you are in my town pile now. BTW, pulsars role protects at night and also prevents their target from being voted the next day. do you think this is a reasonable role or is it way too broken?

Is it dumb to think that Pulsar's claim doesn't seem towny :')

Not the way they did it or the role they say they have. Miyami's role has a clear drawback, healing equates losing your vote the next phase. Seems like a balanced exchange, even with self-target. Like equally helpful/harmful depending on who it's used on, if they use it on village they're protected from death, if they use it on maf they can't contribute to the vote next phase.

Vs Pulsar's Doc at Night that prevents their night target from being voted out next phase. Just doesn't seem as balanced. I'd honestly find it more useful for Mafia to have if there are Vigs running around at night.

Idk that I'm scumreading them for it... yet, but the claim seems NAI at the least, idk that I fully believe the reason they chose to claim either. Not that I can move my vote there anyway but :'>

Yeah their role seems kinda broken NGL

Question to everyone: Do we think the ballot-gifter should claim who they are? The role seems like it would be town, and it's weaker than the doctor roles so I doubt they'd be NKed. It gives us clarity on the item and also gives us a pseudo-IC.
