Sonic: Unleashed

Sonic Team and Sega have apparently leaked several screenshots recently of the next Sonic game, Sonic: Unleashed. Judging by the past "adventures" *cough* of our favorite blue hedgehog, I'm prepared to be disappointed if necessary, but there is always hope. Below is a link to an article and a video of possible gameplay. It appears so far that it could be 2D gameplay in what looks like a 3D environment. Obviously by the name of the link, the game is slated for this year's holiday season.

The US site. Doesn't give a whole lot more information, but just for posterity's sake.

Looks like Sonic Team decided to listen to all the Brawl/Sonic fanboys and decided to go "2.5D" (sort of...they throw in some 3D moments reminiscent of Secret Rings, though I think it much more resembles Sonic '06's Mach Speed Zones). I can't say I'm too disappointed so far. I love how the Tension Gauge (you know it's the Tension Gauge) was implemented, and things look alot more perky than the last few Sonic games, a much-needed breath of fresh air.

However, apart from the obligatory "EW SONIC WEREWOLF" we're most likely going to see throughout the entire topic, this has a very Sonic Advance feel to it, as in all you do is press forward and run. As cool as it looks, that's sure to get at least sort of old fast. I'm also not liking the fact that at the moment, it doesn't look like you can stop or go back...at all. Even worse than Secret Rings. And though alot of people may disagree with me on this point, I abhor the music found in the trailer. I hope the entire game doesn't sound like this. Sonic music, both in 2D and 3D, have always had wonderful music for the most part (the only exception being the first Riders, but that's simply a spin-off). It would be a shame to break that tradition now.

But in general, it looks pretty good so far, and it'll be interesting to see how Were-Sonic and the plot in general play out. I'm more psyched for Sonic Chronicles though <_<.

I read about this a while ago but I didn't know it was being released on the Wii until now. Kind of odd to see a multiplatform game on the Wii along with the PS3 and 360. It's nice to see Sega making an attempt to redeem Sonic by returning to 2D and getting rid of the extraneous characters, although the werewolf Sonic and 'combat fighting' stuff could be iffy. I'll wait to pass judgement on this...
 
Yep. I've heard about it from some people on YouTube that i've talked to a lot recently, and I want to be hyped for this, but after seeing how bad the 360/PS3 game turned out, I can't be as hyped yet.

And since i've heard that Sega's contract with 4Kids is no more, I would love to have Ryan Drummond voice Sonic in this one.

Dont count on it. That rumor was crushed since Brawl came out. The contract with 4Kids was supposed to have expired after Secret Rings. And yet, Griffith is still here.

Besides, as loathed as I am to admit it, Griffith is getting better...
 
Why do we care who voices Sonic again? They both suck.

This was a leak a long time ago. Sega made it official today. They released an extended trailer as well. I'm being cautiously optimistic. There will be a 360, PS3, Wii, and PS2 version of the game. They will be mixing 2D seamlessly transitioning to 3D as shown in the trailer. I'm really trying to stop myself from being hyped but it's hard. I mean... it looks so good!

But then. Sega decides that they not everything can be good and right with the world and show werewolf Sonic. It keeps me in check that this could still bomb. Sega can screw anything up if they put their mind to it!
 
Er, online what? This looks to be a single player game. Multiplayer outside of co-op has never been fun in Sonic anyway. I'll be getting the 360 version if it's good.

This one girl that I talk to on YouTube claimed that if the contract was a 5-year contract that started in April 2003 (soon before Sonic X premiered), it should end this month.

But now i'm hearing stuff about this guy named Johnny Yong Bosch voicing Sonic instead of Griffith. I don't know if that's true or not, but let's just hope he's better, thank you.

He is. Well known voices he does are Vash the Stampede in Trigun and Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach. Take that as you will. I think that's personally some fan's wet dream though. I call BS.

I think all VA talk end right here though. It seems to get much more text about it than necessary. Just assume Griffith until hearing otherwise in the actual game. Then we can talk voices.

This little monstrosity behind Sonic, and the most likely reason this game will singlehandedly be ruined. I'm a pretty tolerant guy. I had fun with Heroes, and enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06 as much as any one person could (though they both could have been much more). Even with that though, I find this idea of a Werewolf Sonic much much more nauseating and repelling than Shadow with guns or Elise in general.
 
Well my fanboy wet dream is that the game isn't voiced at all. But that's never gonna happen :(
 
I haven't been able to enjoy a Sonic game since Adventure Battle 2 on the GC....

Although I am optimistic about this so far...
 
I think I will stick to Sonic the Hedgehog 1,2,3 on the genesis.

Really, I dont have much hope for this game, and I almost want to shit all over sonic ever since I bought Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 with Silver in it.

God that game was awful....
 
I dunno, I want to hope, but it just seems like Sega takes joy in crushing hopes and laughing in your face while simultaneously fucking your memories of old, good Sonic games up the ass with a machete. =(
 
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but it's said that Sega of America, Sega of Japan and Sega of Europe are all teaming up to attempt to make this game. They must REALLY want it to be good.

I actually don't think that's real. Was gonna say it was fake, but it was the other press release that was fake. This could be true, but I doubt it.
 
See here, there is always hope for Sonic to make a comeback. Judging by his past several console games, some people assume that the next one is going to suck. Believe what you want, but I believe the chart that Firestorm posted above describes it pretty much, although I think there is a circle hidden that is for the day that Sonic's console games return to the awesomeness that it once was. Last good console Sonic game IMO is Adventure 2: Battle.
