Wiiware titles are out!

I randomly decided to check out the Shop Channel just now and I noticed that Wiiware titles are available for purchase! Among the available titles is "My life as a king" by Square Enix, which I totally would have bought if I had any points...

Anyone got any of these new titles yet?

I'm probably not getting any very soon. I'm waiting for the Homestar runner Wiiware title to come out in June =).

IIRC, Pokemon ranch was suppose to be a wiiware title right? I guess the starkies will be swarming to there wiis soon.

I didn't see it. Maybe it out in japan though.

It's been out in Japan for a while. IGN said that it was coming out today in North America, though. I wonder what the hold up is--not like they'll tell us...

Just bought POP and Lostwinds. POP is a bit insane with four people, but it's a fun little game. Lostwinds is amazing so far, very enchanting. I am really pleased with this service. Cheap, fun games that are easily accessible. It's especially good for me, as I don't often venture into new titles often.

I plan on either buying Lostwinds or My Life as a King tomorrow, probably Lostwinds
Also getting Dr. Mario online when that comes out, looks fun

I want Dr. Mario :D, i just worry because i have very few blocks left... i really hope Wii ware gives us good games.

The price for the Wii is the same as the regular Wii development kit. Nintendo is horribly stupid and here's their official answer:
Hello,

From time to time we hear from our fans with programming experience who wish to acquire development kits for purposes of game development. While we applaud your desire to develop software for our systems, Nintendo's development kits are only made available to established game developers.

This means that you must have a stable business organization (adequate office facilities, equipment, personnel and financial resources) in order to ensure a secure and effective environment for working with its publisher, be it Nintendo or a third-party licensee. Also, you must have demonstrated the ability to develop and program excellent software for Nintendo video game systems or for other video game or computer systems.

In short, the criteria for getting a Wii development kit for the purposes of
creating a WiiWare title is no different than that for creating a standard Wii
game.

Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc.
David Marshall

The XBox 360 kit, on the other hand...XNA is free, but you need to subscribe your XBox to Creators Club which is $99/year. Compare that to the Wii and you have an extremely obvious winner.

Wow. You'd think in this era of user-created content on Youtube and Newgrounds that Nintendo would be more willing to open up their console. I hear that the ESRB rating alone for Nintendo will cost you thousands... let alone the dev-kit, office space ...

Wtf Nintendo.

The XBox path is probably going to cost only a little more than owning and maintaining a website for my own game. Damn XBox... for being so much better than Wii >_<

I like how the press release says they're "celebrating" the release of WiiWare by not releasing anything on the Virtual Console. Nintendo really knows how to party! Only game I'm really interested in is Gyrostarr which isn't out yet it seems. No way in hell I'd buy "FFCC: Rape me up the ass with microtransactions".

Subscribing to XNA Creator's Club is free for 12 months if you attend a post-secondary institution in the USA or Canada I believe. They started this a few months ago.
