I wonder how this will affect the Official Server. Most of the "good" players I take it are from Smogon, so will they leave Official Server for the Smogon server?

On a similar note, I'm looking forward to seeing what the cross platform (!) Competitor has over Shoddy Battle. Competition is good and I'm sure both will get better because of it. XD
 
I never got a chance to battle on Smogon's Netbattle server because by the time I downloaded it Netbattle was mainly dead, so I am looking forward to this.

I must have been on shoddy the wrong days. I never saw anyone talk about Brawl just crappy rare games.

aaaannnd, I'm still interested in seeing just what competitor will be like now.

Sometimes it is, sometimes its just Caps Lock spam. Bit off topic though, when will this server be completed?

This is so good. Although I know Smogon is involved with a lot of the changes implemented in the official server, I can't help but feel that ultimately the proletariat (as Colin would put it) has no real say...

I too am incredibly sick of the "purgings" as The Atheist puts it... He isn't nearly as witty as he thinks he is. I am eagerly awaiting this server.

Can we get some kind of timetable as to when this is going to happen? I'm just curious how long we have to wait for this glorious coming.
 
I don't see why that's necessary. If someone from another place has a desire to play on a Smogon server using Smogon rules, why not let them?

I think that would be awfully cliquish and detrimental to the battling community in general. What better way to welcome people to competitive battling than to tell them that the server with all the good people is "members-only". That would not be good. There's more reasoning than that, but that's just what I have on the top of my head.
 
This really is GREAT news. I don't consider myself as a ''active member'' of the Smogon Community but i do realize that Smogon is, by far, the best forum for competitive battling. This new server gives Smogon much more influence on the current Metagame(s).

I do have a few questions:

- Does Smogon allow Wobbuffet and/or Garchomp in the OU Metagame?

- Does Smogon allow the use of Event-moves?

- Will there be an Smogon ladder?

1) That's currently up for debate.
2) That's currently up for debate.
3) I'm sure there will be.
 
Well just hope colin figures out to fix that one glitch for shoddy battle. . .

But I most likely will play more on the Smogon server YEA

That wouldn't be logical at all. That'd be turning away all the people who download Shoddy and then see the Smogon name and enter. Shoddy will be getting more players to come to Smogon as well, after all.

Smogon's server will have moderators, many of whom will be moderators here as well, and they will keep things under control.
 
The point of this thread is not to bash the Official Server or its staff - let's not go down that road. The purpose of this "move" is to benefit Smogon's user base, and in turn, the wider battling community. Unnecessary restrictions such as server passwords, forcing of Smogon user names etc. are not likely to occur here, so let's steer clear of that as well. The Smogon server moderating staff will ensure the server runs smoothly without such impositions.
