Hello everybody, I am having a problem with my new Tyranitar for my sandstorm-based team. It is adamant and has an IV spread of:
HP: 31
A: 31
D: 13-16
SA: 22
SD: 17-18
S: 31

I was really set on it being a choice scarf tyranitar with 252 atk and 252 spe, but after doing some calculations I found that it would most likely fail to OHKO most of his threats. I was thinking of the choice band set with 252 HP and 252 Atk, but I am unsure. This Tyranitar is also going to set up the sandstorm for my sandstorm team. Does anybody have any ideas of what I should do?

Adamant Scarftar faces the same problem as Adamant DDTar after a Dragon Dance: not being able to outspeed Starmie and Timid Gengar, as the former can exact significant damage with Surf while the latter can OHKO w/Focus Blast.

Does this TTar have Pursuit? If it doesn't you lose some of the utility of CBTar set, but it should still work.
 
M'kay Smogonites, I've just finished up with Wigglytuff and will precede to train my lovely HEAL BELL Altaria.

I'll need a set, a custom spread, with extra TLC to help compensate for that icky Special Defense.
(Careful 30/21/31/23/6/6)

Pretty please? A simple spread is all I ask.

What I usually do is boot up Shoddy and input the exact IV values for each stat and its nature and mess around with the EVs until I get some nice, even numbers, then shoot for whatever I come up with in my game.

@Dexterity: I'm pretty sure it only applies to the dogs, because they're all single-digit. IT could also apply to Mewtwo, but I really don't know.

He asked where to REVIVE fossils not where to find them, reading is tech :P
And not all of them are rare I must have over 100 skull fossils.

I really don't know how to compensate for the crappy Sp.def IV though, that's 100 extra evs to make up for.

156 Sp.def evs get me the standard 286
248 HP Ivs get me the Magic Lefties 352
106 Defense Ivs get me 242 defense which is a full 22 points less than the standard.

WHAT DO I DO?
 
this is the first time i have ever IV bred, ok well im having trouble IV breeding i dont really know whats wrong i keep getting sneasels with 30attack and 29speed is there something wrong im doing?? im trying to get 31attack and 31speed.

Ok, let me explain you a few things so that you can do other spreads by yourself next time. The recommended spread for the defensive set is 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD, of course that is assuming that you have a perfect altaria but this isn't the case so you have to understand what is the spread trying to accomplish.
That spread was made to make sure that altaria maximizes its defenses and can take both physical and special hits equally, take a look at this applet: http://users.smogon.com/X-Act/defense.html
There you have to input the base stats (HP:75/Def:90/SpD:205) for the pokemon you want to use, its IVs, nature and the bias your which to distribute your EVs for (more for defense, sp.def or 50/50 between both).
If you do that and choose a 50/50 bias for the spread you get exactly the same EV spread that the analysis in the case of an Altaria with 31/31/31 IVs but in your case the defensive IVs are 30/31/6 and you get:
252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SpD
With that spread you are maximizing your defenses but obviously you won't take hits as good as a perfect altaria.

Thank you SO very much. My Altaria's spread has been vexing me for such a long time and it was SO hard for me to concentrate on playing through Diamond, Colosseum, and PBR all at once. For some horrible, but unknown reason, X-Act's applet is being SO difficult and won't open for me, although it's probably because my computer is SO yesterday.

No problem, unfortunatelly X-Act's applet uses java and that can be a little slow on some computers, specially since it runs directly in the browser so that may be the reason. Also you might not have java installed.

Oh wow, you've like SO got Lovrina's personality down.

I just wanted to thank Olie. The battle tower gives out BP so quickly. I reached the 48 points I needed sooner then I would have before. Thanks man.

I don't want to feel better. I want to show the dude that did that to me that a crit psychic is not more luck hax than me hitting myself 5 times in a row.
he's complaining about how he could have won.
his Zapdos was about 50% (HP ice)
he also had tentacruel 100%

I had Bliss 100%
Mix mence with LO about 70%
and Mix ape. 100%

He claimes that a crit psychic won me the match?


is it .5 X.5 X.5 X.5 X.5?
