Wow, that is close with Wyverii's as my favorite front sprite. I'd definitely suggest doing the back sprite, even if it's hard...you have a good chance of winning this.

just a minor suggestion.

why doesn't someone sprite the in the ground pose? It would be much easier, and Diglett/Dugtrio are the only in the ground Pokemon so far.

Because I found in the ground poses to be incredibly difficult, hence I have one limb going in the ground and not coming out.

I should update on my sprite, but there's no point anymore.

EDIT- Hyra, our avies seem to dislike each other.

I decided to waste a bit of time doing a sprite, like I did during the first CAP.
I completely forgot how tough it was. Over four hours, and I have this mess.

Not only that, I've pretty much crashed on the Back Sprite. Ugh, I don't think I'll continue...

This is my favorite so far. It's got aggression, attitude, and a great style to it. It also captures the general feel of the pokemon really well. Some minor issues need to be fixed though, like the top right hand (awkward fist) and the back bottom hands (the curvature looks off). For the fist, the finger needs to be curled into the palm, with its tip hidden by the palm. As for the back hands, i don't know what it is, but something looks awkward with them.

Other than that, ths one is awesome. I'm looking forward to the back sprite.

Actually Doug, I think the only thing retro about yours is the color. A simple recolor to make it brighter and less pale would make it perfect. The posing and outline actually fit the current generation fine.

Also, I would like to say that Cyzir's sprite is another one of my favorites, especially the front groung hands. This one and Doug's both have hands kinda like that in front. It gives it a "crawling out of the swamp" feel that make it seem to fit the typing VERY well.

I'm currently working on a sprite, though I doubt it will be as good as others. And I think I'll need someone to do the backround transparency for me.

cyzir, it looks good but it doesn't look like a D/P pokemon.
the outlines are really noticable and thick, and some of the hands are messed up.

BLARGH I'M DEAD

I followed killerduck's advice on the fist, and decided to make the back ground hands down flat. I also did some touch-ups on the hands and body.

@DiamondDust
I'm glad someone said it. SOMEBODY, HELP IT OUT PLEASE ;_;
Like I said, it's a mess, and I'm nowhere near as good as some of you guys.
EDIT:

...

I like Doug's, Wyverii's, and Cyzir's. But if I had to go with just one, it'd probably be Wyverii's, only because it really captures the essence of the other D/P sprites, whereas the others, while impressive, don't seem to fit in quite as well. Basically, what I'm saying is that if I were to look at those three sprites without any prior knowledge to this ordeal and was told to pick out the one that was a real D/P Pokemon, I would choose Wyverii's.

Not a bad pose perspective-wise, but some of the hands seem a little misshapen. I would especially work on making the ones on the ground look a little flatter (like they are flat on the ground).

Yeah the hands were a pain (wow, deja vu, no?). It's still a work in progress, just want to get feedback before I rework and color the thing.

Cyzir!!

Yours has INCREDIBLE potential. You just need to clean it up!

It's hard to describe without showing...
Firstly, try to count the gap of the pixels as you make a curve, like stairs.
In order to make a nice curve, you can't go down left, down left, down, down, down, down. Check the hand at the bottom left, at his purple wristband.

Also, don't be afraid of middle tones. Sometimes they can disguise weak looking points without looking too noticeable. Just try not to spam them to create an oddly shaded pokemon. Just find each trouble-spot and clean it up a little.

icebud, you saved it as .jpg; it is ruined.
the hands are too cartoonish, the outlines are bad.
the sprite is just terrible.

cyzir, im not the best at scratching, but im really good at cleaning up sprites. can i attempt at changing it up a bit?

Wow, Cyzir's sprite is looking really good. My only suggestion is to make the colors a bit lighter, it seems a bit dark for a DP sprite.

Again, just trying to get it right. Suggestions on what I should do, maybe? (shading, lighter outlines, specifics, ect.)

Mind you, I'm using paint to do this, and I'm rather new at spriting. Not exactly the most welcoming of circumstances, eh?

BTW, permission granted for anyone who wishes to tweak stuff, just post before you do it.

EDIT: Also, why is it ruined if it is saved as .jpg? I have the file up still, so I can fix that, too.

i redetailed some of it, and changed up the outline colors a little bit.
cyzir, if you lighten up th hand and arm color, you will have a winning sprite.
oh, btw, the arms and the hands are different colors.

In my continuing obsession with this front sprite, I've made yet another set of changes:

handyman7cutsheetbd1.png

I added a little more saturation to the colors to brighten it up a bit. After seeing it next to the RBY sprite, I realized it looked pretty dull color-wise.

I finally got around to reworking that top front left hand. The old version was really crummy. It was the result of all sorts of hand and elbow repositionings, and was a total mess. I started from scratch and made a complete new hand. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. It's a more aggressive position, like the pokemon is reaching out to grab something. It also looks more three-dimensional than the old one. With the perspective I'm using on this sprite, it's important for all the elements to have depth.

For those of you that are interested, here's the "worksheet" I used in reworking the hand.

handtestlr8.png

It shows the old hand and the new hand, just for comparison purposes. It also shows an aborted attempt to redo the hand. I was thinking of making the fingers look like a "martial arts-ish" hand position. But, after seeing the first outline, I realized it would make the pokemon look like he was trying to hail a cab. I wisely stopped and went a different direction.

With this update, I'm feeling pretty good about the front sprites, and I'm not likely to make any major changes from here. However, feedback is still welcome.

Next up, back sprites. Ugh....

I like your sprite, Doug. I just have one minor nitpick about it. On hand on the ground on our right, the right-most finger seems a bit off. it seems like it's not connected right. Everything else looks good!

I totally agree, just "push it back" a bit, because it looks like a dislocated joint right now.
