Metalkid's calculator is only off by about a damage point or two for the vast majority of calculations. The "terribly inaccurate" is hype.

My Egg Riolu had Steadfast...

I used to be a pretty active pokemon gamer, but as of the past year, I kind of dropped off the face of the earth as far as competitive battling goes. I want to get back into it, but I have a few questions.

Is there a separate/new IV calculator for D/P?

Also, I have a question about the Sceptile standard. On the (IMO, well-respected) strategy guide on the main site, it says its attacks should be:

Leaf Storm
Hidden Power Fire / Focus Blast
Hidden Power Ice / Dragon Pulse
Grass Knot

Do you think that Leaf Storm, HP Fire, Focus Blast, and Dragon Pulse would be a bad option, or should Focus Blast be nixed for Grass Knot? Also, why Grass Knot? I never used it, but I have seen the damage chart for it, and it doesn't seem so incredibly reliable. Why not something like Energy Ball, or even Giga Drain?

@Geren- Here is Obi's thread on it: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?p=223817

Oh, and umbarsc's definition of it was somewhat accurate, but not all of it. It actually does work with Sleep Clause on, and it pretty much goes like: Smeargle endures, Mewtwo explodes. Salac activates. Send in fast Fake Outer. Smeargle spores one, fast FOer FO's the other pokemon. Then, Smeargle uses Endeaver to lower the opponent's HP to 1, and then you win(Hopefully). This was during JAA though, so I'm not to sure how it would work if you made an Obi Mode team for D/P.

No, I don't think you can get them from WonderCards, sadly. I had been trying to get a Darkrai, Electivire, etc. shiny, and I thought you could, but apparently you cannot get them from WonderCards, or one of my fellow comrades would have by now as well.

They can be soft-reset for shinies (and decent IVs) but I wouldn't attempt it unless you've got a couple of decades of free time - 1 in ~9000 chance.

1 in 8192, and don't talk like it's almost impossible to SR to get a shiny, because it's not.

Grass Knot has a high BP on a lot of OU threats, it'll usually be at least 80 BP or higher.

I personally would use Grass Knot over Leaf Storm if you want all that coverage. Doesn't Leaf Storm lower your Sp. Attack? It'll water down when you use it the first time, Leaf Storm is like a one use Kamekazi attack like Draco Meteor, so keep that in mind. If someone sees it coming, you may be forced to switch because it may not do squat the 2nd turn and then you're forced to switch or die.
You could try it but I personally don't like the idea, Grass Knot is better IMO.

Energy Ball is OK solid 80 BP. I use it on my Roserade but the only reason is because of the people I face, Grass Knot wouldn't cut it that much. If you feel the same, use Energy Ball instead.

Giga Drain? Less power. 60 BP is scraping the bottom of the barrel and the HP tradeoff might not be so great since Sceptile (as far as what I've seen) is one of those Pokemon that if it takes a hit you better cross your fingers that it lives. It'd be useful on the Subseed set I guess.
Hopefully someone will be able to second opinion this.

Oh, and I use this IV calculator but as far as I know there's nothing special about it, I just like using it cuz it's simple.

If I use a Power item to boost my EVs during a battle during a double battle, does it add 4 for each Pokemon I defeat or does it add 4 EVs for the whole battle itself?

Hello,Im Having a problem with Arcanine moveset im want to get Flare Blitz,Extremespeed and Crunch but i do see that Arcanine gets Extremespeed on lv 39 while Growlithe gets Cruch on lv 42 and Flare Blitz on lv 48.Then i see that Arcanine has Flare Blitz and Crunch as egg moves so do i need to breed Flare Blitz and Crunch on Growlithe and evolve it before lvl 39 so it gets Extremespeed. This is the only way to have these moves??Does Heart Scale works in this secnario??

Have your Growlithe learn Crunch and Flare Blitz via level up, and then once you decide to evolve it, Heart Scale it for Extremespeed.

I am starting Shoody and I am wondering, is it legal to have your pokemon with all IV's 31?

Assume everybody does that, it is a battle simulator after all. The only problem you might have is if you plan on using legendaries because Shoddy won't let you have certain IV combinations with certain natures.

Ok, thanks
But I also have one more question: What are illegal move sets that people are talking about? Sorry if that is a very simple question but I dont know and I dont want to get banned without knowing what for.

There are many to list them but they mainly refer to egg moves that can't be chain bred into the same pokemon or move tutors from emerald combined with egg moves from Diamond/Pearl or event moves with egg moves.

Two or more moves you would get from different incompatible breeding chains, or one or more breeding moves mixed with an event Pokemon who doesn't come with that move.

Does that mean that some of the sets that I have chosen from the selection of moves could be illegal? If that is the case, why do they leave the sets there like that?
