Conan's 2nd RMT

Hey, I have made a new team, and I have a tournament match either tuesday or wednesday against a very tough opponent, someone on my team actually. I was wondering what you think of my team and do you think this team is good enough.

Glance of the Team

This is the team I am using in the tournament. I havent tested it to much but from what I have done it was awesome. I think the is some good balance here but I want to know what you think.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Intimidate
6Hp/252Atk/Speed
Adamant
~ Waterfall
~ Dragon Dance
~ Taunt
~ Stone Edge

I think Gyarados is a great lead Bulky or not. He has decent speed and can get a nice early taunt. Its great at stopping trick room, stealth rock, and those other early turn moves that help people set up. After that he can get a free dragon dance on the switch and really show how good of a sweeper he is.

dpmfa143.png

Snorlax @ Leftovers
Immunity
252Hp/6Def/252Sp.Def
Careful
~ Crunch
~ Curse
~ Body Slam
~ Earthquake

Snorlax has really great HP's as we know and also has a good special defense. His attack is not too shabby either. And along with curse, his attack only gets better and it upgrades his poor regular defense. This guy can do a lot with the stats he has a the move pool isn't great but it is very managable.

dpmfa134.png

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Water Absorb
188Hp/252Def/68Sp.Atk
Bold
~ Ice Beam
~ Wish
~ Surf
~ Hidden Power (Electric)

Vaporeon is pretty bulky and is a great wish passer. If anyone on my team needs healing, this is the guy they look to for help. He can take a hit while setting the wish up so naturally he is good for team healing. He also has good coverage since he has HP electric.

dpmfa386.png

Deoxys-S @ Expert Belt
Pressure
6Atk/252Sp.Atk/252 Speed
Hasty
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunderbolt
~ Psychic
~ Superpower

I really dont need to say much here. The guy has a moveset that pretty much everything is weak to. Expert Belt is for more super effective damage since his special attack and attack are not so hot. With his incredible speed he goes first just about everytime so he can usually deal some great damage before leaving. He can be a great end of the game swweper.

dpmfa445.png

Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Sand Veil
6Hp/252Atk/252Speed
Adamant
~ Fire Blast
~ Swords Dance
~ Earthquake
~ Outrage

Right now I am testing the Standard Garchomp set off smogon to see if I like it and work from there. I am questioning Fire Blast since Garchomp has a sp.atk in the mid 100's. But we will see how this Garchomp contributes to my team.

Infernape @ Choice Scarf
Blaze
252Atk/6Sp.Atk/252Speed
Jolly
~ ThunderPunch
~ Stone Edge
~ Close Combat
~ Flare Blitz

I have tried the Mixape and he is really good I just wanted to try this one out and see what it can do for me. He is scarfed for the simple resoning of outspeeding just about everything in the game unless they are also scarfed, but he also has good speed to begin with. He can deal with gyarados thanks to having thunderpunch. I am not completely sold on the choice scarf on him but it is not that bad.

My Suggestions:

1. For Gyarados, going with 6/252/252 spread is quite a waste on Gyarados though, especially for Adamant as it's incapable on outspeeding Jolteon/etc after just one DD. The first speed boost is only 391.5, while Jolteon's running 396. But since you seems like a seasoned player, the outspeeding issue should not be much of a problematic. Aqua Tail is also a fine option over Waterfall as well for that extra power, but lacks flinching.

2. Deoxys-S should have Naive nature, as -Def nature is risking it against priority attacks. Y'know, HP Fire in place of Super power may help your Deoxys-S fare better against Pursuiting Metagross. And of course, it isn't like many Weavile and Tyranitar are going to stick in for Super Quadfective dmg. If you decide to ditch it, then obviously give it the Timid nature.

3. On Snorlax, I'm not exactly sure of what Brick Break may accomplish, maybe you were thinking of Skarm? If so, why not Fire Punch for that benefit from the curse? Sadly though, Skarm may come in and Phaze the boosting away, making CurseLax's attempt futile. Then again, the good'ol Tauntrados is there for the fun.

4. You could simply make that Garchomp a YacheChomp. Most Deoxys-S users understand the speed concepts, and since Adamant Garchomp will only run 454.5 speed with Scarf, as well hitting 499.5 speed with Jolly. The usual Deoxys-S runs at hastily 504 hit mark(503 with HP Fire).
EDIT: Choice banded SacrificialChomp is fine too, rather. But optional. Yache vs CB. If you chose Yache, it's good to know that Deoxys-E does 70.39-82.68%, while on Yache-less variance it's a troublesome 140.78-165.64%. And an Outrage from a Jollied Garchomp returns 89.26-104.96% against 6 HP Deoxys-E.

5. How about U-Turn in place of Mach Punch for that Nape? It'll help weaken the opposing aforementioned Deoxys-S, and Ya-da ya-da Starmie/Cresselia/Counter switch. Keep that +Spe nature though, as it becomes an element of surprise against Deoxys-S. Jollied U-Turn deals 59.92-70.66% on 6 HP Deoxys-S, which is great for residual dmg and/or for finishing it up.

Question(s):
1. How would you go up against Status lead? (Gengars, Yanmega, fast abusers)
- Since I couldn't spotted any sleeptalker in the RMT, are you going to simply sacrifice one for status and crossing your fingers in hoping it'll be awakened before the opposing rampages? I'm guessing Snorlax?

you raise a lot of good points. I have Mach Punch on to KO the opponent before getting hit. Thinking of dropping Choice Scarf For a Choice Band or Life Orb. Snorlax had brick break cause I didnt really feel like breeding again to get firepunch. I dont like rest cause w/o sleeptalk it sucks IMO. And I cant really drop body slam, crunch, or curse for sleep talk. So I am open to a 4th move change for snorlax. I like the max speed gyarados up front cause there are not to many lead jolteons right now anyway. I may yache berry garchomp but the only thing there is I get hit by Ice Moves as much as drago moves since everyone uses a garchomp/salamence. But I could try it. I like Deoxys moves how they are now. its pretty basic.

1. Choice Scarf on Nape's fine. It's a surprise, and Mach Punch for that priority isn't going to change much perspective. What threat gives you the worry to the line of giving him Mach Punch anyway, especially with Choice Scarf? To me though, giving Nape Mach Punch sounded like you're going to make it a weaker variance of SD Lucario. SD Nape's ok though, but it's really lacking that other priority to cover it against Ghost, and Stone Edge will be needed for incoming Gyara/Sally as well. Scarf does give him more advantages. Going for MixApe isn't a good idea anymore too, as there're far more fast-paced sweepers nowaday.

2. About Yache Chomp, you already have Vaporeon AND Deoxys-S to cover any leftover Dragons for giving your Chompy a surprise attack :P Plus, if putting into a scenario, Stone Edge from Scarf Jollied Nape does 68.37-80.42% on Salamence, and Close Combat does 49.44-58.10% against Garchomp. Thunderpunch does 25.90-30.42% on Sally though, but a usual close KO for Gyarados.

Alright I will make some changes, so what about these.

Infernape
-Mach Punch
+Stone Edge
(Keep Him Scarfed)

Garchomp
(-Choice Scarf +Yache Berry)
So Should I take out Fire Fang or Crunch and add Stone Edge or Should I leave His Moveset as is or somehting else?

Give Chompy the usual set posted on Smogon's:

Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Jolly
EVs:6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
-Outrage
-Swords Dance
-Fire Blast
-Earthquake

No need for Crunch as Outrage does more, but minuses the ability to switch out. If the opponent switches out, then you might get 2 SD's. Fire Blast is ok with -SAtk nature b/c it does higher dmg against Tangrowth, Forretress, and Skarmory.
(Fire Blast = 55.69-65.59% on Pure physical Tangrowth. Fire Fang = 24.50-28.71%)

Ill test this out. I also changed Infernpapes mach punch for stone edge. Does the Garchomp have to be jolly or can i continue to use the Adamant one. How much of a difference is there?

Fire Blast is about as powerful as a boosted Fire Fang, and will OHKO Forretress and 2HKO Skarmory without any setup. It will do a lot less to Bronzong, however. There's no 'better', it comes up to your personal preference in the end.

I believe you should use Protect on Vaporeon, as it will give you a reliable recovery. Vaporeon isn't going to be around very much without it in my experience. :/

Jolly is a better bet due to having 50/50 chance of going first before the opposing Garchomp in mirror match. It loses roughly 10% dmg against the physical walls, but if you're having a different plan of approaching the opposing dragons, then go with Adamant.

Well, I have continued using the Adamant one and it is doing well. This team here(with thew chages you helped me with) has won 6 games in a row. Thx, and also, I took Brick Break From Snorlax for Earthquake.

To be honest I would just slap SleepTalk on big boy and put Body Slam + Pursuit / Crunch, Pursuit to almost guarantee Gengar and Starmie to stop bothering you. Why Fire Blast on Garchomp if you have Sword Dance and you can Fire Fang? Fire Fang takes 70 - 80% from Bronzong after a Sword Dance, so you should really Fire Blast > Fire Fang. Replace Ice Beam on Vaporeon for Protect, unless you want the pokemon that keeps the team alive and healthy to die, then I would suggest that. I would suggest changing up the Gyarados a little bit more here, so you are able to handle Heracross and friends better.

yea i thought fire fang was better. im not a big fan of sleep talking snorlax. I would rather take out hp electric than ice beam from vaporeon. and I like the current gyarados and up front.
