Your mind shall tempt you to click this. ;) (OU RMT)

Hello there, competitive side of Smogon.

This is my very first RMT at Smogon, so I would like to present to you a rather rare sight these days, a Stall team.

Yes, the days when Obi made Stall teams VERY popular are long gone and almost everyone has been using their Offensive teams jammed with Revenge Killers.

As none of you may know me or what I'm talking about, let's just cut to the team. ^_^

The Crew

porygon2.png

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Trace
Bold
240 HP / 176 Def / 92 SpA
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Recover
Thunder Wave

Ah yes, every team nowadays must have a Gyarados counter. Ice Beam smacks Dragons around while Thunderbolt makes this a powerful threat to Gyarados, and since I have only a small chance of Paralysis with Thunderbolt, I will go with Thunder Wave, to cripple Sweepers not Ground-type. Recover is very useful and helps me stay around longer.

cresselia-f.png

Cresselia @ Choice Scarf
Modest
140 Def / 116 Speed / 252 SpA
Ice Beam
Psychic
Reflect
Lunar Dance / Hidden Power Fire

While this may seem like a novelty, it is indeed a serious set. Yes, like most of you I laughed at the sight of Scarf Cress, but it is a fantastic Chomp and MixApe counter, outspeeding both and KOing with Ice Beam and Psychic, respectively. Yache Chomp is still handled fine, a 2HKO is always nice, as you can't get KOed before outspeeding and dishing out the final blow. Infernape is also guaranteed a OHKO by Psychic, as is non-Scarf Gengar, who the Speed EVs were meant to outspeed.

If you insist in believing Infernape isn't KOed, please look at this:

The above Cresselia Nature & EV spread doing Psychic to 294 HP + 178 SpD ( 4 HP / 0 SpD ) Infernape does: 100.68% - 119.05%

As for Gengar....

The above Cresselia Nature & EV Spread doing Psychic to 262 HP + 186 HP ( 4 HP / 0 SpD ) Gengar does: 108.40% - 128.24%

We all know this Cresselia does a guaranteed OHKO on Garchomp with Ice Beam and ~50% after Yache is counted.

Now, you see Hidden Power Fire may be a joke, but it stops Scizor from switching in for free.

tentacruel.png

Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Clear Body
Calm
204 HP / 52 Def / 96 SpA / 160 SpD
Surf
Sludge Bomb
Rapid Spin
Toxic Spikes

Yes, its fantastic role of countering MixApe has been run over by ScarfCress, but it is arguable that all Stall teams must have a Spinner. It also sets up Toxic Spikes, which are almost a neccesity on a Stall team. Surf gives it a decent STAB while Sludge Bomb hammers the Grass-type you'll most likely see harder then Ice Beam, named Celebi. Rapid Spin is the second reason it's used and is always welcome.

spiritomb.png

Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Calm
252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Shadow Ball / Shadow Sneak
HP Fighting
Rest
Sleep Talk

Arguably the best Spin Blocker that has been made so far. Spiritomb must not go down, for since if it dies Rapid Spinners will repel my entry hazards and thus I have decided to use Rest-Talk Tomb. Shadow Ball stops Heracross from laughing but Shadow Sneak provides a move that stops Calm Mind Mismagius. Hidden Power Fighting is always nice alongside Shadow Ball, providing great coverage. :)

machamp.png

Machamp @ Choice Band
Guts
Adamant
128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Speed
Close Combat
Thunderpunch
Ice Punch
Payback

Machamp, while it is desired for its Rest-Talk set being able to counter Tyranitar. I've decided to turn to CBMachamp as my mini TTar counter. Close Combat is the main dish of this set and is best served with Ice Punch to give a nice gift to Gliscor and Salamence. While Thunderpunch hits Gyarados with much delight. Payback deals with the ever so annoying Dusknoir and Psychic-types such as Celebi.

metagross.png

Metagross @ Leftovers
Adamant
252 HP / 172 Atk / 84 Def
Meteor Mash
Stealth Rock
Ice Punch
Earthquake

One may ask, "Why Stealth Rock on Metagross?" seeing as this IS a Stall team, I will need all the entry hazards I can get to damage the opponent's Pokemon upon switching in. Also, it is a very bulky Dragon resist and has a guaranteed OHKO on all of the non-Yache Dragons with Ice Punch. Meteor Mash does a nice little push to Tyranitar and other things. While Earthquake deals with Heatran.

Also, credits to http://ownpurpose.com/libelldra/damage_calculator.html for having such a wonderful Damage Calculator for me to calculate damage on specific moves used on specific Pokemon. :)

Yes, I don't have Blissey, and I'm working on fixing that but for now I'll test this version of the Stall team on Shoddy Battle since I don't really have any room for a Blissey.

Ah, Scarf Cresselia :D Looks like that little idea became a full time set.

Anyway, this is a very good team from the looks of it. I personally run Bullet Punch > Ice Punch since dragons will not like taking Meteor Mash whatsoever.

A little thing I'm concerned about; the lack of team recovery. 4/6 of your entire team has no recovery at all (besides Lunar Dance Cress passing to someone else, which isn't totally reliable) Vaporeon could do nicely over Porygon2 since it counters Gyara and Mixape (though you might want to counter Chomp as well)

Other than that, very good.

if Salamance has some vital play into attacking shouldn't it get some Evs for Attacking since one person can have a big Defensive lucario which i know earthquake and dragon claw can take care of and dragon dance along with speed can be very help ful but if you were to add some Evs to Attack it would defeat most Lucarios since Ground and Dragons are OUs against Lucario and since lucario has many Reisists they take advantage of that and make it like a wall like blissey

Im sure if your using payback on machamp you should throw in Evs for SpD since Psychic pokemon are known for Horribly high SpA and have 128 in Hp isn't gonna make it any easier on them if they have a Nasty plot Psychic thing

I see no reason with having Stealth rock on Metagross since you have tentacruel who is your best Staller with Toxic spikes to take on many pokemon and with your Tentacruel with those Evs having a second Staller would probably be bad but don't take this seriously since your machamp and Cresselia are great sweepers!

Lucario is not a wall. Whatsoever, low defenses, weakness to fighting/ground/fire makes it unable to take hits from more common things.

Im sure if your using payback on machamp you should throw in Evs for SpD since Psychic pokemon are known for Horribly high SpA and have 128 in Hp isn't gonna make it any easier on them if they have a Nasty plot Psychic thing

Those SpD EVs will do absolutely nothing. Any boosted Psychic from a respectable SpA stat will beat Machamp. Why would he stay in when he can switch to Spiritomb and trap said Psychic?

You must not understand; SR and Toxic Spikes do two completely different things. T-Spikes is there to spread status and overall kill the team slowly, whereas SR breaks sashes and deals heavy damage to things that aren't affected (fliers, like Moltres who can't even come in twice)

I used this for awhile. Lunar Dance can be very useful, but go for HP [Fire], imo.

Wow. Something I can actually kill with my Physical Venusaur ^^ But yeah, pretty good. Besides, what grass types can't be killed by this, are killed by something else on your team.

Personally, I prefer Shadow Sneak. Something else on your team can likely deal with Hera.

I hate these things. They are evil in it's purest form. No complaints.

Stealth Rock. The one thing I inevitably am weak to. Quite good, imo.

Yes, I've noticed I lack any real Special Wall, I'm working on fixing that but for now I'll test this version of the Stall team on Shoddy Battle since I don't really have any room for a Special Wall.

Lack of a real special wall hurts this. I go with Registeel or Regice usually, with Amnesia on either one as a surprise to CM users and Azelf.

Well, I don't like the thing, it can be beaten rather easily, but yeah, I guess it is a special wall. My bad. But only one rather hurts it. I meant to say only 1 special wall, considering most usually have 2.
Spiritomb is a great special wall, and most dont use any walls anymore since the metagame switched to a more offensive style of play recently.

You can fit Magic Coat in at the cost of a little power and less paralysis chance if you'd like, and it still counters Gyarados.

CBChamp is a destructive powerhouse. I used to use it with very impressive results, 2HKOing things like Skarmory and Forretress, as well as dealing with Gliscor. Weezing is one of the few Pokemon that can take a hit from it and stay in for a short while.

This is one Pokemon you could save with Lunar Dance because this thing will be taking a lot of punishment.

Props for returning a stall team to the new offensive metagame. The lack of an extreme wall on either side of the spectrum hurts, but you'll be able to cope with mixed threats rather easily. I always find Clerics as nearly necessary, so consider something like that when you can...if you want of course.

We'll cross battles in the future, so we'll find any glaring weaks at that time.
