Wow, I just lost ~60 posts when the last thread got deleted lol.

Anyway...
Folks, I really need help with Weavile! Ice Shard, Ice Punch or both? Should I drop Pursuit?

Weavile's best set in this metagame is:

Weavile @ Choice Band
Jolly
40HP, 252 Atk, 216 Spe

- Night Slash
- Pursuit
- Ice Shard
- Brick Break

With the abundance of Scizor around, there is no point in even bothering to set up a SD sweep as he can come in whenever and ohko you with bullet punch. Ice Shard is chosen over Ice Punch to kill +1 Speed Salamence, as it outspeeds and ohkos Weavile. Ice Punch was only really helpful to OHKO Yache Chomp back in the day. Night Slash and Pursuit for strong STAB and to deal with things like Latias, Gengar, Alakazam and Azelf. Brick Break to beat Tyranitar.

Hope that's along the lines of what you were looking for Spheal.

The same here, so my question is why they deleted the last tread. Couldn't they just lock it? It's not to much about the post count, it's just that most question will be repeated. People could also check the old tread for their questions...

To me, the whole point of weavile is the ice-shard/pursuit combination that allows it to make salamence, skymin and gengar (and garchomp earlier) fear it. But it really depends on the rest of your set/team and what you want your weavile to do...also, good luck using weavile with so many priority moves and scarfers running around.
How could I forget Shaymin-S...

Thank you both, I'll use Ice Shard. Just two things I had in mind:
1) Is Nevermeltice a good option for item? It makes Ice Shard almost as powerful as Brick Break-72 BP as compared to 75, while still maintaning the ability to switch moves.
2) Are you sure the 40HP thing isn't old? Must it be Jolly?

First of all, I'd like to point out that I use that particular Weavile in my team.

1) As much as I hate the inability to switch moves that comes with choice items, Choice Band is necessary to provide the power needed to KO a lot of pokemon with Night Slash. Life Orb is another less powerful option, but Weavile won't live long with it, and Weavile can actually survive some weak attacks. Expert Belt reduces the power even more and only provides the boost for super effective hits, but it has no other drawbacks. Either way, NeverMeltIce is not worth the power boost to a single move.

2) I'd have to say the 40 HP is a waste as well, unless it's supposed to help Weavile survive weak attacks with just 1% left. Weavile needs boosts to its attack and speed above everything else. Since Choice Band gives it a huge boost to its attack, the primary focus when determining EVs and nature should be speed, hence Jolly nature.

so, what happened to yours? .,... I dont want to regret buying a USB connector this X-mas..
For some reason, the connection gives me three green bars, and then for no reason shuts off. I checked the error messages on Nintendo's site, and honestly...none of them apply to my situation. I've had this problem with multiple computers in different locations, so it's the USB connector's problem...

216 Spe EVs are all that are necessary as they outspeed the next speed tier down - Alakazam at 120 Speed. Running max speed means that you might get lucky against an opposing Weavile and win the speed tie but that's all that it can be used for. The 40HP EVs mean that you are guaranteed to survive a Modest Choice Specs Starmie Surf, ensuring you can take on and take out any kind of Starmie. But to be perfectly honest it doesn't really matter all that much - run 4HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe if you want.

And yes, Jolly is vital on a Weavile. Speed is Weavile's biggest selling point. Without Jolly, Weavile can't outrun Alakazam, Starmie, Dugtrio, Azelf or Gengar.

I have the same problem. I have to turn off my firewall to trade. :(

@ball00nboy - Yes. Without any EVs, it is impossible for a level 5 Absol to have more Attack than Hp, as with 0 IVs, an Absol has 21 Hp and with Adamant Nature and 31 IV, 20 Attack.

My Question (if I'm allowed to ask Questions about shoddy on here)

On Shoddy, how does one find their Deviation? Is it the 2 ratings in "Rating" subtracted? Also, The rating for the Suspects is found by the Conservative Estimate Rating?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC, the Conservative Rating Estimate is used only for the leaderboards, but I'm not certain on that.

Your rating for Suspect testing purposes is the average of the two ratings in your "Rating" range. Deviation is simply your maximum Rating minus your average.

In other words:

Rating = (High rating + low rating) / 2

Deviation = (High rating - low rating) / 2

Example: You check your rating in Shoddy and find in the "Rating" that your range is 1550 - 1650.

Your rating would be (1650+1550)/2, or 3200/2, or 1600.

Your deviation would be (1650-1550)/2, or 100/2, or 50.

How many EVs would a pokemon with pokerus and a power item get if he battles a pokemon that originally gives out:

1 EV
2 EVs
3 EVs

So yea I want to know how many EVs a pokemon would receive after factoring in a power item and pokerus.

pokerus doubles the EVs earned.

so if you fight a Bidoof with pokerus and Power Weight, you get 1 for the Bidoof, 4 for the PW, and then another 5 from pokerus. a total of 10 HP EVs

so you get:
10, 12 and 14

Pokerus doubles the final amount of EVs normally given. Here's an explanation:

1 EV + Pokerus = 2 EVs
2 EVs + Pokerus = 4 EVs
3 EVs + Pokerus = 6 EVs

Now, here's where it gets a tad tricky:

1 EV + Power Item (4 EVs) + Pokerus = 10 EVs
2 EV + Power Item (4 EVs) + Pokerus = 12 EVs
3 EV + Power Item (4 EVs) + Pokerus = 14 EVs

So, Pokerus multiplies the total by two AFTER power items are added to the original total. If you understand algebra, then:

(EVs from Pokemon + Power Item EVs)*2

EDIT:
Beaten to it, but hope this helped!

Bizzare question: are Unown letter frequencies balanced in the rooms that aren't predefined (F room, R room, etc.)? I swear, 5 of the 9 Unown I ran into were Vs in the first room to the left instead of right in Solaceon Ruins

EDIT: 6 of 10 now. o_o;

I think they are. I remember catching all non-specific Unowns in a single small room. The letter is based on the unown's PID, so I'm guessing they would be the same apart from the F,R,I,E,N and D unowns.

Would the following EVs be good for a mixed Dragon Dance Bagon?
HP 16
Atk 12
Def 28
SpA 24
Spd 26
Spe 26

And does a power item like Power Bracer add 4 EVs for every Pokemon battled or when you level up?

For the love of... Shrink that thing!
Done.

I was wondering-why isn't EQ used on Heracross? Besides beeing a great move generally, it also helps against Poison-types, who resist both of it's STAB moves. I know Weezing has Levitate to doudge it, but what about Muk, Nidoqueen/king or Tentacruel?
