EDIT: sorry can't get the pictures to fit on one line they keep reseting to the size they were on the web page. guess I should have saved them at the right size =(

Hey all.

This is a UU hail team that I decided to make due to seeing so many hail teams on shoddy lately.Obviously hail stall teams aren’t much different from one another so It probably won’t be something you haven’t seen before. I’ve used it on the ladder and it seems to fair quite well. It’s obviously stall orientated due to being a hail team. Main objective is to get status on the opponent and forcing them to switch and take entry damage. I’m by no means nearly one of the better battlers so any tips and comments are welcome.
TEAM AT A GLANCE

So it’s obviously a pretty standard hail stall team. Abomasnow for constant hail. Walrein because he can stall like no other. Froslass to get spikes down and annoy the opponent. Nidoqueen to phaze, Tspikes and absorb Tspikes. Haraiyama to take fire hits. Rotom is the main spinblocker and annoyer.

THE TEAM IN DEPTH
abomasnow.png

Abomasnow @ Leftovers
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 Hp / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Nature: Timid
- Blizzard
- Energy Ball
- Substitute
- Leech Seed

Abomasnow is the lead to get the hail started asap. It’s the subseeding abomasnow, except with 252 SpA ev’s put into Hp for extra bulk. Blizzard and energy ball for stab. I chose energy ball due to breaking SpD walls with the SpD drop (allowed me to beat a wish chansey), but I’m not sure whether grass knot would be better overall. Sub and leech seed for good recovery coupled with leftovers. Max speed so he can get down the sub before alot of slower walls try to status him, like the regi’s, chansey and slowbro.

walrein.png

Walrein @ Leftovers
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Nature: Bold
- Surf
- Roar
- Substitute
- Protect

Walrein is great for stalling. Max Hp to get the most out of his subs, which aren’t broken by seismic toss. Surf for some stab and to deal some damage. Roar is good for phazing statuppers who see walrein as set up fodder. Substitute to protect from status and protect to score some free healing in hail with ice body and leftovers. I’m not quite sure whether toxic would be better over roar or not. If I took roar out Raikou would screw me over and I would need to switch, but toxic helps break bulky walls not named registeel and other steels.

froslass.png

Froslass @ Leftovers
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
- Spikes
- Substitute

Possibly more annoying then Walrein. Froslass comes in on a choiced fighting or normal attack, and then subs on the switch then cripples the opponent and lays down 3 layers of spikes. Once behind a sub and with the opponent Twaved and confused, Froslass will almost never get touched. Though I am considering an attacking move over confuse ray, like Ice Beam or Shadow Ball. But confuse ray makes it just that much harder to touch froslass.

nidoqueen.png

Nidoqueen @ Leftovers
Ability: Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Nature: Relaxed
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic Spikes
- Earthquake
- Roar

My toxic spikes absorber and setter upper. Though stealth rock is the first preference to be set up because it can’t be absorbed. Also my second phazer, my only real combatant to CM mismagius. Earthquake for some solid stab. I’m questioning nidoqueen, but without a toxic spike absorber this team is screwed. Also no one else on the team can put up SR, or can afford to lose a moveslot.

hariyama.png

Hariyama @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 Hp / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Nature: Adamant
- Force Palm
- Payback
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Hariyama is my go to guy when I predict a fire or ice type move coming. Also takes rock attacks. Hariyama makes for a great mixed wall. Its Hp is already high enough so I felt there wasn’t a need for anymore Hp. Restalk increases his stalling capability. Revenge is for stab and payback to hit ghosts like mismagius who think I’m set up fodder. Hariyama is also my status absorber. I tried out knock off over payback and it seemed to work quite well, but I’m not sure on what is better. Any help there would be great.

rotom.png

Rotom @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Nature: Bold
- Will-o-wisp
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Rotom is my spin blocker. It is also my answer to CB/CS Staraptor. Rotom has the handy immunities to normal, fighting and ground. Also the resistance to flying is great. This thing walls scyther like no other. Sort of the same case as with froslass. I’m considering Thunderbolt over confuse ray to have some attacking power. Rotom is also my second status absorber.

And thats the team. It seems to fair quite well, but any criticism you have feel free to post because any help I can get I welcome.

Changes are in bold.

take confuse ray off frolass and rotom for ice beam and thunderbolt respectively and rotom doesnt need wow and frolass doesnt need twave because you have toxic spikes just put shadow ball on both of them too.

looks very simliar to my team http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50254

what do you do against gallade and blaziken? they always seem to give my problems. or baton pass teams too?

Ok thanks man will try them out right now. As you can tell you're hail team from before inspired me they work really well. I'm gonna try out those right now because yeah taunt owns them. Thanks again.

Yeah I really like your team so I tried it out with some variations and it worked well. Luckily I haven't come across gallade or blaziken, but I'd have to try and predict a fighting move again one of the 3 Ice types and then switch to froslass or rotom. Obviously is gallade isnt scarfed or banded he will most likely KO with night slash, but most blaziken seem to be CS/CB. Baton pass I try to roar them out, I've only come across 1 in UU though and they didn't ingrain or have a Mr.Mime

EDIT: also with taking off Twave and WoW off froslass and rotom, I'm not so sure because Tspikes are absorbed a lot of the time, and WoW helps rotom wall staraptor even better.

I will not give a full rate because Hail stall is easier to play than anything i have ever experienced, and anyone can do well with them.

But ill go on...You may want some sort of Flash Fire pokemon on your team, probably in Place of Rotom, or Hariyama, probably the latter. This will Stop Blaziken, Moltres and the like from completely turning your team into a Pokemon Smoothie. Confuse Ray is up there with Double-Team imo, you should replace that with Shadow Ball, or Thunderbolt. If you do none of this, than AT LEAST make Rotom or Hariyama do something other than Sleep Talk.

Overall....meh..hail stall....Have fun :D.

Thanks for the tip HeYsUp, hariyama has seemed to be a bit of dead weight lately, so I will try out a flash fire poke. Has to be either houndoom, arcanine, flareon, ninetales or rapidash so I'll just try some variations of each I guess.

Arcanine has plenty of bulk on it, so I would opt for that

Arcanine @ Leftovers
Bold Nature-Intimidate
240 HP/ 168 Def/ 28 SpA/ 72 Spe
IVs: 30 Spa/ 30 SpD

Roar
Will-O-Wisp
HP Ground
Flamethrower

works best. This allows you to be more free with Rotom as well, you can go T-Bolt or Discharge/Shadow Ball/RestTalk.

On Hairymama, I opt for Force Palm just to get the parahax, since this really helps with T-Spikes Absorbers.

Thanks sc4rfch0mp, I actually really like that arcanine, I'll try it out now, and also try force palm on hariyama because revenge really isn't so good (doesn't work when I use through sleep talk for some reason).

a taunt lead like froslass/electrode/persian will make your life pretty hard, and even harder after you have to start switching things around to kill it, because they know what game you'll be trying to play, and will try very hard to cripple walrein before he can start stalling. rain dance electrode would be particularly bad, not only being able to taunt walrein, but being able to change the weather and outspeed your froslass as well.

@demonwar- yeah I'll try blizzard instead of ice beam I do seem to be lacking power at times.

@parshimers- yeah taunt and taunt leads in particular do screw me over. For electrode I go to nido and EQ to break sash and then switch to rotom to take the explosion. Persian I go to rotom and just kill with TB, and froslass I try to get a status on it to avoid its destiny bond. But yeah taunt is a major problems for this team.

Idk what these people are talking about, but Auto-Weather teams are definately a tougher fight for a Sunny Day or Rain Dance deam then the other way around.

Yeah I don't think I've lost to another weather team as of yet, because as soon as they rain dance I switch in obama and they're a turn behind.

blizzard > Ice beam
its weak to my hippo team still

Umm, I'm glad you realize that, but too bad Hippo is OU? And Blizzard isn't always better than Ice Beam, on a stall team, certain Pokemon need the PP.

I'd recommend 252HP, 252SpD on Hariyama, giving your team an effective special wall. Seeing as you already have Nido, Walrein, and Rotom as Phys walls, you need some kind of special wall in there. While your at it, Knock Off is certainly a viable alternative to payback, as Knock Off will greatly benefit Walrein's stall by removing leftovers from any given pokemon. Only if you are willing to sacrifice power, and the immidaite ghost kill.

On Froslass, you might consider Shadow ball or Thunderbolt over Thunderwave, because Paralysis gives less of an advantage to a stall team than toxic will, and anyways, you won't have as much of a chance to use T-wave when most opponents come in poisoned.

While 252 HP on Abomasnow may seem viable, I would recommend 252 SpA, as Aboma already doesn't have enough bulk to counter too many threats. Test it out, as this decision is purely up to you.

Keep Walrein as is, the only changes you might ever need are switching around surf with blizzard or ice beam. Seeing as you wont find Pokemon that hate ice as much as they do in OU, you will probably be good as is.

On Nidoqueen, you may consider Stone Edge or Crunch over Roar, for coverage and your ghost (Mismagius) weakness respectively. Make sure you lure out any Roserades before setting up T-Spikes, as letting 2 turns go to waste, and a switch from Nido will be deadly as no Ice team like Rose. Just be aware.

Rotom wants Shadow Ball over W-o-W, for coverage and to make sure toxic spikes will be more effective.

You may consider Mismagius or Spiritomb over Rotom. Mismagius has so many options, especially with the Hail Stall theme, while Spiritomb also can stall effectively, and provides a solid Gallade counter (as solid as one can be). Consider your options there, and test both out.

Good team overall, I hope it works well for you and is fun!

Hope I helped.

I dont know if this was bumped or what, but abama and frosslass aren't UU, however I will humor you...
Yeah Hariyama need to go. His main function in a hail team is to counter tyranitar, something you wont be seeing in UU ever. Moltress is a very good option because it can basically stallrein by itself and with all those entry hazards roar can cripple teams.(and thanks to you running double ghost, rapid spin should be an issue) I'm seeing it alot now and its bulky enough to take hits especially fire ones, however the arcanine mentioned is good as well as it isnt as weak to stealth rock.
Keeping the two ghosts on a team is extremly helpful in combating a foresight hitmontop, keep them.
I would generally shy away from ice beam as fewer things have pressure in uu and it lasts longer, plus the boosted power is nice as fewer top pokes are weak to ice.
