Grifball, it's not halo

Grifball, the sport of champions. What is it you ask, well Grifball is a game in its own right within the deep folds of Halo 3. In grifball you use a hammer and sword to escort your own grif across the court to where he can then deposit the bomb and promptly be exploded and killed for the point. My description may be lacking in some regards so i'll let Sarge and Caboose take over.

This thread is meant as a place where people can discuss the intricacies of the sport, get together for customs and double xp weekends, and hopefully we can get together a smogon team for the upcoming spring league.

There is one rule for this thread, and that is that it is not meant as a place for the discussion of the competitiveness of grifball (tired of having that arguement), so only post if you have something constructive to say or a question to ask

I wouldn't really consider Grifball competitive... you just have to have faster reflexes or get luckier than your opponents in hammer duels. On another note, if you're trying to get all the medals it's the easiest way to get a Killionaire.

well, many people would disagree with you, and your remark about the medals makes me think you've never played anything but crappy matchmaking grifball, but i'm quite tired of having this argument with anyone anywhere but the grifball forums, (or about pokemon anywhere but a pokemon forum) so i'd really rather not have it again, which is why i also i added a rule

I think that most people who actually play Halo 3... or 2 would really disagree that grifball isn't even remotely competitive. I can say that Needlers are for noobs but a group of people can disagree with me on that. The point is that grifball isn't competitive and if you think it is, it's your own opinion :/.

At any rate, I see no point in having this thread at all :s...

What matty reads: "We can discuss the topic of grifball, but it has to be what I agree with. Also, I think your opinion Lexx is retarded but obviously you are below me in Grifball skill so why would I ever stoop down and explain what is clearly superior"

Grow up v_v

On topic: This is a great fun game type. There is cool video of Bungie playing the RvB guys in a grifball match if anyone is interested in how the game plays out. Lexx, come play grifball with me anytime

you are a large part of what i was reffering to with not wanting to have this arguement again, just leave it alone, but i will say it again, you disagree with me, and many other people, but do you know how many people would say the exact same thing about pokemon, this forum, if any, should be more receptive

i just don't want the thread to be
Grifball is gay
well some people don't think so, including me
i don't care its gay, your gay for playing it

yay on topic thanks

All I was saying was that grifball didn't really need its own topic since a similar post could've really been used in the Halo 3 discussion thread seeing as how it's a somewhat small topic to be on its own. If that's the case, I should start a MLG discussion thread rather than start a smaller discussion about mlg in the thread for halo 3.

Not going to argue about this so, this is my last post in here that's offtopic as matchmaking grifball is fun (at least the betrayals are).

the differences are quite greater and you know it, and i did ask firestorm before i made the thread to be sure it was ok

It is not your job to decide if a topic belongs there, it is mine. That's all that will be said on this topic. This is a topic about grifball. Talk about grifball here.

I don't think I've seen anyone take Grifball as seriously as people take MLG. Grifball can be fun, but whenever I play it, I hear little kids scream "OH MY GOD YOU HAVE FUCKING HOST" after I kill them and then quit out. I tend to avoid it now.

I want them to bring Team Flag back. ._.

You're terrible at spelling.
Grifball can't like other boy Grifball. So I don't think you can call it homosexual...even if you're just saying other people may call it homosexual.
It's a terrible gametype for people that are terrible at Halo.
It is not competitive at all. anything with no shields is no skill.

The fact that you'd try to argue that it's competitive is hilarious and shows even more how ignorant you are.

do you stalk me? just leave me alone, leave this thread alone, and obviously i wasn't calling grifball gay

just ignore him man. grifball is extremely competitive but it does have a fair amount of luck involved, you have to admit that. the only real tactic i have seen work is to have one teammate on the front lines charge in as a distraction and have the two others escort the ball carrier in. you can reverse it as well but basically that is what i found works best.

i also used grifball to get a few of my medals. it is just too easy to follow a teammate using a hammer with your sword out and stab enemies after they swing the hammer.

Perhaps you should actually explain what makes Grifball more than just a game of Team Smear-the-Queer so that people stop flaming this topic. I see how Grifball could involve strategy when its played by people who "know what they're doing." That still doesn't really change the fact that it takes little-to-no skill and is probably only taken seriously by people who are less than good at real Halo games, which take many many times more skill and strategy. Obviously you said you didn't want to have this discussion, so feel free to ignore this, but it might help to explain what these "intricacies" are, and why people should play it, because you're the first person I've met who takes it seriously, which leads me to believe you won't get a lot of actual discussion about strategies (since nobody knows them). Anyway, I just think you're better off enlightening people rather than hoping to find other serious players. GL.

Agreeing with Diesel. On a somewhat random note, I have a guy on my list named Grifball Legend. I'm sure he takes it seriously, considering he has some 1300 EXP in the playlist.

OP kind of just posted that Grifball can be competitive but not why.

I don't know if I said this in the thread already, but I'm curious to play this on LAN.

thank you, and storm is pretty hard to ignore since as you can see from his location/avvy/sig he pretty much devotes his time on smogon to harassing me

ok, maybe i'll write a guide or something, at least with some basics, like positions and simple coverage and ball scoring techniques

i've played grifball legend before i think, can't remember who won, but yeah i was mainly hoping to find some people who already found it competitive, but maybe i'll start trying to convert people

in terms of grifball, a friend and I were bored one day and decided to check out some stuff. lately we've been working on some trick moves, like a wall ledge jump 360 pass for the score, but we'd probably interested in the leagues

ok cool, so so far think we have five people interested

Yea, good idea. I might be interested in playing sometime as well. I've enjoyed playing it a little bit, since it's complete mayhem, which can be fun, lol.

ITS HERE

another grifball weekend has arrived, i'll be playing a bunch, hit me with an invite, my gamertag is FinalPwnage

Anything can be competetive if you have to find a way to win.

EDIT: looking at it, it can be taken wrong.
I'm encouraging the competetive play of grifball.

Ugh. Grifball. How I loathe thee. Not because I play it. I don't have a 360. But because when it first started my RvB account kept getting random comment/message spam asking me to join their Grifball team. Highly annoying. It hardly happens anymore, thank god.
