[UU] New Team

Greetings,

This is my new team that I have been trying out on ShoddyBattle, that I have planned out for use in DS wifi matches.

I have been having a few problems, namely taunts, and would like tips on how to make my team better.

Thank you in advance!

Here is the team:

The Lead:
Roserade @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 236 HP/252 Spd/20 SDef
Timid nature
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Substitute
- Sludge Bomb

I like this Roserade because Spikes is a good lead if I know I can live through one attack. If the other lead tries to set up, I go Leech Seed or Sludge Bomb depending.

Real Weakness: Taunt leads!

The Physical Sweeper:
Honchkrow @ Choice Band
Ability: Insomnia
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Sp
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Drill Peck
- Superpower
- Night Slash

Beast. Honchkrow can hand out some hefty blows with Sucker Punch. And Drill Peck, Superpower provide good Super Effectives one a switch/revenge. And he is fast enough to beat out the majority of other sweepers that are trying to stop him.

Weakness: Tough on typing at times, thinking about switching to Life Orb so that I don't have to switch on a counter.

The Special Sweeper:
Magmortar @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA/4 SpD/252 Sp
Modest nature
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Ice

Another beast. His Overheat OHKOs a lot of sweepers, and watch out any fire super effectives. Massive STAB on it. Speed is a little bit of a let down, but Specs help make up for it.

Weakness: Tricky super effectives makes it hard to switch in on Magmortar, he is a vicious revenge killer though.

The Trickster:
Rotom @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature
- Trick
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Will-o-wisp

Quite the fun little guy. His STAB Thunderbolts rip through a lot of pokes, and Shadow Ball is fun for everyone else. Will-o-wisp is questionable on usage becuase of low defenses of Rotom. But Trick is fun when I can grab a Leftovers and fill myself back up and trash some more.

Weaknesses: Lack of defenses.

The Physical Wall:
Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/80 Atk/176 SDef
Careful nature
- Explosion
- Iron Head
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock

I like this wall set for Registeel, who has some nice typing for walls in UU (at least I think), and I like his Stealth Rock capabilities. Iron Head deals with anyone who doesn't switch out, and Explosion is for 30-40% when I know I have two moves left and the opponent needs to die.

Weaknesses: I'm not super-pro at switches with him yet, but I am getting better.

The Special Wall:
Hariyama @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 80 HP/176 Atk/252 SDef
Careful nature
- Whirlwind
- Brick Break
- Knock Off
- Bullet Punch

I like this set as well. Whirlwind teases the opponent into being dumb. Bullet Punch/Knock Off are for mind games as well, taking Scarfs/Bands off of pokes that need them. Brick Break is the move that keeps pesky sweepers at bay.

Weaknesses: Like Registeel, my switching abilites aren't super awesome yet and I still need to learn when to switch in/out.

So that is my team. Comments/Advice would be MUCH appreciated!!

Thanks!!

My first idea is to give Roserade Toxic Spikes. Spikes are good, but it can take too long for the 3 layers to build up, just for them to RSed away.

Speaking of RS, you need a Rapid Spinner. Once someone else gets SR and TS up, he can roar you away (- Honch and Regi) while poisoning/damaging you.

Also, get a "normal" fire move on Magmorter. You can have a power move, and a normal move. What about when you run out of PP? Or when you have -6 SpAtk? Swap Focus Blast for Flamethrower.

That's all for now, I have to go to school.

Mmm I will try putting Flamethrower on Magmortar, and Toxic Spikes on Roserade.

For a spinner, who do you suggest to put in / take out?

Just saying, hariyama is not a special tank. It cannot stand up to the special sweepers such as espeon, blaziken or sceptile.

Also, keep spikes on roserade. Toxic spikes are absorbed too easily.

You have no effective revenge killer, yet all these pokemon that beg for Choice Scarves. Sucker Punch is your last gasp at revenge killing, and even then you're choice banded, therefore set up fodder.
I'd switch either Magmortar, Honchkrow, or Rotom to a choice scarf. Magmortar I've found is the most effective. Rotom works well as a Trick Scarfer as well, but if you trick it away, you have no revenge killer. ^^;
Also, Roserade wants Sleep Powder. That's normally how you can set up spikes well.

I see that your team does not have enough speed to match many other offensive teams or revenge kill for that matter.

I recommend giving magmortar fireblast/flamethrower>overheat and also cscarf>cspecs. I've been using this set to great effect on the recent sunnyday team I leaderboarded. It also works as a good late-game sweeper as well.

You could also try payback on hariyama to hit those predicted ghost switchins that want to come in on a brick break. I would also recommend life orbing honchkrow. Then you can also replace night slash with pursuit b/c now you won't be locked on. This helps with chanseys quite a bit.

@ frogoholic101 - this is true. I was noticing that toxic spikes was getting absorbed by EVERYONE. Spikes are back. Hariyama is also under questioning for his position, I've noticed him getting wrecked recently.

@ BrodericKK - I'll try scarfing Magmortar, see how it comes out. Also what do you think I should replace for Sleep Powder? Leech Seed?

@ xianglongfa - Good call on Pursuit/Life Orb on Honchkrow, I did that last night and it worked out very well.

Thanks for the comments, I will post an updated roster soon.

Spikes and Sleep Powder are both an illegal set on Roserade. If you want spikes can't have sleep powder...Also if you want sleep powder you'll have to do TS instead of Spikes.

Just what I was going to say. xD

Yes, replace Leech Seed with Sleep Powder and Spikes with Toxic Spikes. (Poison is much more helpful IMO)

First off, you could elaborate on your sets a little bit more, but I digress.

The major weakness I see in this team is Crobat, and considering it's the most used Pokemon in the tier by far, that's not exactly a good weakness to have. Yes you have Rotom, who can "revenge" it, and even switch in once due to its resistance, but you're still taking 40% damage from it. Don't talk to me about Registeel either because unless your booming with it, it's just gonna Taunt you to keep Rocks off the field and then run away. To curb this, I highly recommend that you place a Choice Scarf on your Rotom. At least this way, you outspeed Crobat, meaning that you can guarantee that it's dead on a revenge kill, and you can even switch in twice on it instead of only once. Not to mention, Scarf is way better considering that fact that when Tricking it onto opponents, you're mostly wanting to give it a useless item and Scarf has the least chance of causing reverse fucking over.

========================

Get rid of Substitute on Roserade. It's not fast enough to be an efficient Leech Seed staller in UU, and you'll be wishing you had a Grass-type STAB move every time your opponent brings in Milotic and realizes you lack a way to actually hit it. And after that, drop Leech Seed for Rest or Synthesis, they both have their merits... in this case I'd probably use Rest since you're using a less bulky set than most Roserade, so you could probably use the instant 100% more than a 50%.

Oh and don't listen to the idiots squabling about Toxic Spikes... they're worthless in UU. Most every team packs a Poison-type.
========================

I would put Earthquake on Registeel over Explosion. Yes, you lose the last ditch chance to boom something, but what you gain in overall consistency with your coverage is incomparable. As it is, you have no way to actually kill Crobat without losing your Registeel in the process, but at least this way you'll be able to have a prediction battle against your opponent on whether or not they're use Roost or get out. a 50 / 50 shot is better than a 0 shot at beating Crobat.

========================

Specs on Magmortar is useless. You give up the ability to abuse his fantastic movepool in exchange for a marginal amount of additional power. You really need to just change the item to a Life Orb. You don't lose any KOs, and you pick up the ability to wall break / 2HKO things you couldn't before (like Milotic with a Fire Blast into a Thunderbolt). If you're not wanting to do that, at the very least give it a scarf so it can actually -do- something.

You're using Registeel as a physical wall, and yet you're using the UU tank set, which is specially defensive?
If you intend to use Registeel as a physical wall, replace it with Steelix - it has higher defense and Attack. However, if you continue to use it as a special wall, then it does fine.

As LN pointed out, Crobat causes problems for this team. And Registeel doesn't stop it. To that end, you should replace it with Steelix. Steelix can actually hurt Crobat while supporting your team. However, you lose the paralysis support of Thunder Wave.

Does Honchkrow really need Choice Band? Being locked into Sucker Punch is quite dangerous - go the Life Orb route.

Can't really think of much more , LN and a few others have already made suggestions.

Hope I helped!

Yes, you guys have helped a lot, I'm still going through and testing the recommended builds.

The switches I have made so far:
Honchkrow @ Life Orb - such a better item. Honchkrow has finally proved the worth of the time investment to level one. MASSIVE damage.

Roserade:
-Leech Seed
-Spikes
-Sludge Bomb
-Leaf Storm

Going to Life Orb Magmortar, so that should be promising. Earthquake on Registeel looks interesting as well.

I'm considering replacing Rotom for someone a little bit better deigned to counter Crobat, he really is a big pain in my rear end. Any recommendations?

THANKS!!

Specifically for Crobat, there are a few options. Amphoros makes a nice counter, with Static and STAB Thunderbolt, coupled with decent bulk. Rhydon is a fearsome Rock Polish sweeper who can actually set up on Crobat. Choose whichever one you want.

Alternatively, since you're listing Registeel as your "physical wall" (which, normally Registeel is a special wall), you could instead use Regirock, since he functions as a physical wall, and he's pretty much a 100% counter to Crobat. Still sets up Stealth Rock like Registeel did, and threatens to OHKO Crobat with Stone Edge. Works pretty well.
