AT&T Starts to Censor the Internet. Picks Perfect Target: /b/

Anything from img.4chan.org is blocked on AT&T now. As a result, the /b/ board of 4chan is effectively unusable for customers on AT&T. This isn't without precedent. In Canada, Telus blocked access to a union website that they were in a dispute with for all its customers. Obviously they were met with insane backlash. This is the type of thing that holds back the internet from being used to its full potential.

Of course, they honestly could not have picked a more entertaining target for this. The type of people who go to that board aren't really going to take this lying down so it should be interesting to see how it plays out.

I can't really see what good could come out of limiting internet access to customers if the rest of the competition isn't. I know if I was an AT&T customer I'd jump ship beofre shit started getting worse.

Brilliant idea AT&T CEOs.

You're right they won't take it lying down. They might raid an AT&T message board! If there is one. Oh my.

But really, this is only bad for AT&T. I know I'd be switching. Not because of /b/ but rather just because I don't want an internet company to censor what I use the net I pay for.

I'll be switching from AT&T soon. I was due for an internet upgrade anyhow.

Also yes, this block does affect more than just southern California apparently, as I live in nor cal.

I really can't wait to see what mildly humorous plan /b/ users come up with for getting their revenge, but other then that it doesn't affect me much.

We need that michael Jackson jpg where he's eating popcorn

And also, hell yes, I'm gonna have fun watching.

Them blocking that site isn't going to affect me, but if they start limiting my access to other things, i will definitely change my ISP.

Slippery slope! I don't think /b/ will simply attack just their message board (if they have one). This will probably be another shitstorm such as Project Chanology.

I eagerly await /b changing AT&T's website pages of major staff members to /b legends, with moot as AT&T's CEO.

for the record:

at&t blocked img.4chan.org, which is why only /b/ and /r9k/ were blocked (other boards have different extensions). AT&T did this with full intention, it was not a mistake. furthermore /b/ is on the job and within minutes of the boards being shut down users were posting AT&T exec's information and what have you.

4chan DDoS'd AT&T, it was a defensive temporary measure before people start thinking this is some blatant act of censorship
