First Ever RMT (And post). WiFi OU Rain Dance Team

Ok, this is my first ever RMT so it may not be the best. It is for WiFi as I prefer it to Shoddy etc etc. This team was orginally made for a school doubles tournament (which I won due to no-one else noing about EVs etc.) so there are some things made for that tourney.

Team at a glance:

Anyway, on with the team!

bronzong.png

Bronzong @ Damp Rock
Impish
252 HP / 128 Atk / 128 Def
~ Rain Dance
~ Explosion
~ Stealth Rock
~ Hypnosis

This is a great lead, a helps the team well. It simply sets up SR, puts the opponent to sleep if nessisary, then makes it rain. To finish, it goes BOOM! The Atk EVs help give Explosion a bit more power, while still being a sturdy wall.

azumarill.png

Azumarill @ Leftovers
Adamant
Huge Power
252 HP / 240 Atk / 16 Spe
~ Substitute
~ Focus Punch
~ Waterfall
~ Protect (I orginally made this team for use in doubles, this to stop Bronzonog KOing it, looking for replacements)

This comes in straight after Brongzong to clean up what he left over. SubPunch is a graet combo, which Azumarill utilises well. It normally stays out untill it's KO'ed, as it it hard to switch in.

ludicolo.png

Ludicolo @ Leftovers
Calm
Swift Swim
204 HP / 76 SpA / 124 SpD / 104 Spe
~ Rain Dance
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Leech Seed

Prehaps the best assest to the team, Ludicolo is an excellent Pokemon to use. A tank at heart, though Swift Swim usually makes it faster than it's opponents. This does all the main sweeping, and is suprisingly hard to take down.

starmie.png

Starmie @ Damp Rock
Timid
Natural Cure
136 HP / 148 Def / 8 SpA / 216 Spe
~ Rain Dance
~ Surf
~ Thunder
~ Recover

Not as good as I thought, suprisingly, but still a great help to the team. It can help set up rain dance (though this is primarily done by Brongzong and Ludicolo), as well as help sweeping. Probably the best counter for other Starmies in the entire team.

kingdra.png

Kingdra @ Life Orb
Naughty
Swift Swim
252 Atk / 240 SpA / 16 Spe
~ Rain Dance
~ Waterfall
~ Hydro Pump
~ Draco Meteor

My mixed sweeper, he usually comes in late game to get me the win (or lose). With Swift Swim it's a beast, without, it's not the best. Salamence can KO with Draco Meteor if Kingdra doesn't doesn't, which is bad, as the only other pokemon that could KO Salamence is Ludicolo with Ice Beam, but that requires a bit of luck.

electivire.png

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Adamant
~ ThunderPunch
~ Ice Punch
~ Cross Chop
~ Earthquake

This was orginally put in for the doubles tourney I was doing, to counter the big headed people who think they can KO me with Thunder becuse it's raining. It is great to switch in on electric moves, then become faster and KO the opponent. It's defences are quite low, so it's really just a revenge killer.

Thanks for reading, please comment! (I din't know how to end it ;_;)

I've used raindance teams a couple times and I enjoy them, but I'm gonna have to say that 3 rain set-uppers are max. Your E-Vire is missing some EVs but since its Adamant and purely physical I'm going to assume that its 4 HP/ 252 Att/ 252 Spe. Ludicolo and Kingdra are the only ones here taking advantage of raindance- I would suggest dropping Azumarill for a Swift Swimmer:

Kabutops @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 72 HP/ 252 Att/ 184 Spe
- Waterfall
- Swords Dance
- Aqua Jet (priority is a must considering a frail SpD stat)
- Stone Edge

Take advantage of Kabutops double stab. Or try maybe this swift swimmer:

Floatzel @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def / 16 Spe
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Brick Break
- Aqua Jet

Once almost ripped my team to shreds. Not nearly as bulky, but makes up for it with a nice speed stat, and with RD up, allows it to outrun practically everything. Oh, and I would also drop Rain Dance on Starmie and run Ice Beam.

Good luck!

Luckilly i have good experience with rain so here's my advice. Understanding the doubles nature of the battles obviously keep protect but considering it's just a TM there's no harm in using something else like ice punch and what not, obviously the main choice when using shoddy.

Bronzong looks good but considering taunt seems to be pretty common (correct if i'm wrong if not the case on wi-fi) so you'll want an attack instead of hypnosis if you're playing platinum so i'd say gyro ball which is nice with the crappy speed and STAB and heart scale availablity. Keeping him alive for a later rain dance / explosion ain't a bad idea so gyro ball ain't bad, especially when taunted...

If you decide to switch to Kabutops which I would recommend if breeding's not too hard :P have rock slide over stone edge for 3 main reasons.

10 more PP
10% more accuracy
30% flinch rate, bread and butter with rain dances speed boost...

of course it's personal preference but dual flinch STAB under immense speed is awesome, and also rock slide is a TM so that helps.

If you decide to drop rain dance on some sweepers then focus punch is great on ludi for catching out blissey, snorlax, etc. And kingdra could do with signal beam over rain dance for celebi as a particular grass type as well as some phychics and darks when saving PP is a issue. However i have to disagree with 2 rain dancers max, if zong explodes you'll need 3...

When considering swapping in the swift swim sweepers above consider it over non swift swimmers, it may seem a bit "spammish" just having swift swim STAB surf / waterfall everywhere but that's what's truely so effective. Replacing Azumarill and Electivire come to mind, as starmie's relative bulk and yet good speed are great assets.

If you feel that having so many waters is an issue and you need some resists, try out a latias i've used with great success as he can set up rain, resist enemy boosted water as well as grass and electic, which is good as combined they hurt your sweepers.

Latias @ Damp Rock / Leftovers
Nature: Timid
EVs: 128 HP / 128 SpA / 252 Spe
- Dragon Pulse
- Calm Mind / Surf
- Rain Dance
- Recover

I prefer Damp Rock as recover keeps you alive and the rain boost is great, calm mind over surf is really preference. Having a good special wall when rain is up ain't bad, don't waste time under rain though, perhaps CM first, recover off and the rain dance for full effectiveness.

Overall, I'd say swap in Kabutops and Latias over Azumarill and Vire, key resistance and physical prowess won't go unrewarded. Good luck in the future.

Hi, I have a lot of experience with rd teams so I can help out.

Completely discount what fitzy72 said that is complete rubbish, 4 rain dancers is great, having only 2 would greatly hinder a rd team. I'd say 3 is a minimum.

You can keep Bronzong in the lead position if you want but I often find faster leads more beneficial so you may want to move Bronzong to a later slot. Hypnosis is a bit risky, you can keep it if you want but you may want to put Reflect or Light Screen over it.

Now I've never been much of a fan of Azumarill on rd teams, I think either Kabutops or Qwilfish would be more beneficial in this slot, it would probably be best to make them reach 263Spd as at the moment fast choice scarfers can cause your team some trouble and with 263Spd in the rain it will outrun Timid CS Gengar/Latias. Here are their sets, the main reason to choose Qwilfish is its ability to soak up toxic spikes which cause your team some trouble while Kabutops has an easier time with Salamence and Gyarados:

Qwilfish@Life Orb ¦ Swift Swim
Adamant ¦ 28HP/252Atk/228Spd
Swords Dance/Poison Jab/Waterfall/Explosion

This thing is a beast, will soak up those nasty toxic spikes and is so underestimated by opponents you can expect many kills. After a Swords Dance almost nothing can survive its Explosion and a +2 Poison Jab OHKOs Celebi and Latias while a +2 Waterfall deals around 80% or so to Skarmory so with a bit of prior damage even the mighty Skarmory can fall. This things main troubles are with pokemon like Salamence and Gyarados as its only way of dealing with them is Explosion, that is the main advantage of using Kabutops. It does however resist Bullet Punch unlike Kabutops which is a major help. The EVs reach 363Spd outrunning even Timid CS Gengar/Latias but you cold just max speed for a speed tie with Kingdras.

or

Kabutops@Life Orb ¦ Swift Swim
Jolly ¦ 80HP/252Atk/176Spd
Swords Dance/Aqua Jet or X-Scissor/Waterfall/Stone Edge

Jolly and 176Spd EVs to reach 264Spd and outrun Timid CS Gengar/Latias(263 outruns them but you reach 264Spd because of a bonus point). Swords Dance lets it double its attack and makes it very powerful. Waterfall and Stone Edge are powerful STAB moves and deal with pokemon like Gyarados, Salamence, Hippowdon and others. As for the other slot Aqua Jet allows you to finish off weakened pokemon that may try and hit you with a priority move or still be able to hit faster pokemon once the rain stops. You can use X-Scissor instead to deal with Celebi a major nuisance to rd teams.

On Ludicolo a more offensive approach would be better so use a moveset of Rain Dance/Grass Knot/Ice Beam/Surf with a Modest nature and a Life Orb. Also use an EV spread of 60HP/196Spd/252SAtk. Ludicolo is a powerhouse on rd teams and with this set can deal with many pokemon. Although it has trouble against Blissey and Snorlax you have mixed Kingdra for that.

Starmie is fine although you could try an EV spread of 252HP/216Spd/40SAtk if you want.

On Kingdra I feel replacing Rain Dance for either Signal beam or HP Electric would be best as Celebi and Gyarados are two of the main switch ins to the mixed set, with SRs HP Electric easily ohkos Gyarados and sometimes ohkos it without sr up. Signal Beam will deal around 75% to Celebi so if it switches into Hydro Pump you can take it out with Signal Beam.

Now Electivire is a pokemon I've never been to fond of for rd teams. If you keep Bronzong in the lead position then I suggest either Jolteon or Porygon2 as even if Electivire gets a motor drive boost its still not that dangerous and Jolteon still gives you an electric immunity but it can unleash incredibly powerful Thunders and set up a quick rain dance whereas Porygon2 is a great counter to Jolteon, Gyarados(sort of a counter now as if rains up DD Waterfalls are 2HKOing easily), Salamence, Heatran and others. Here are their sets:

Jolteon@Damp Rock ¦ Volt Absorb
Timid ¦ 4HP/252Spd/252SAtk
Rain Dance/HP Grass/Shadow Ball/Thunder

Can set up a quick 8 turns of rain while taking out Swampert with HP Grass, it can also unleash powerful Thunders and Shadow Ball hits Rotom-A, Celebi and others.

or

Porygon2@Damp Rock ¦ Trace
Bold ¦ 252HP/216Def/40SAtk
Rain Dance/Recover/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt

Sets up 8 turns of rd, can recover hp and Ice Beam and Thunderbolt provide great coverage while hitting Salamence, Gyarados and others. Thunder isn't listed as often you don't have time to set up rd if you want to take out a pokemon thats a threat.

However if you decide to move Bronzong out of the lead position as its very susceptible to Taunt. Azelf is probably the best choice for that position but Electrode and Crobat are other options although they sort of scream out rd(Electrode the most of course). Here are their sets:

Azelf@Focus Sash ¦ Levitate
Jolly ¦ 220HP/36Atk/252Spd or 252HP/4Atk/252Spd
Rain Dance/Taunt/U-turn/Explosion

This is the lead I use and it is a very good one. Taunt can stop pokemon like Swampert, Hippowdon, Roserade, Smeargle and Bronzong from setting up sr, using spore, etc just watch out as sometimes they may just attack expecting Taunt. Rain Dance is obvious(due to Focus Sash it is only 5 turns but you need that insurance). U-turn is for scouting and escaping leads that cause it trouble while Explosion is to go out with a bang. As for the EV spreads the first gives a slightly stronger Explosion but the second gives you a chance to live through Metagross' Meteor Mash + Bullet Punch.

or

Electrode@Focus Sash ¦ Static
Naive ¦ 252Atk/228Spd/28SAtk
Rain Dance/Taunt/Thunder/Explosion

Almost guarantees rd being set up as only really ScarfRachi stands a chance at stopping it setting up rd due to flinches. Taunt can stop slower pokemon from setting up but is expected. Thunder is a powerful attack and with 100% accuracy in the rain it can cause some damage while Explosion lets it go out with a bang. Azelf is generally better as it doesn't scream out rd and Electrode usually only sets up rd then dies, but if you like the speed then you can use it.

or

Crobat@Damp Rock ¦ Inner Focus
Jolly ¦ 104HP/152Atk/252Spd
Taunt/Roost/Rain Dance/U-turn

Can Taunt slower leads, set up a quick rain dance while also being able to recover hp and has some useful resistances. U-turn is for scouting. You can use Focus Sash instead if you want to definately set up rd but Damp Rock is preferred as Crobat is uite bulky and can Roost.

Hope this helps and good luck with the team :)

I second what joel22 has said, and would like to add that Stone Edge is superior IMO because it OHKO's Gyarados after Intimidate, which Rock Slide cannot do.

Bronzong looks good but considering taunt seems to be pretty common (correct if i'm wrong if not the case on wi-fi)

I hardly ever see taunt...

kingdra could do with signal beam over rain dance for celebi as a particular grass type as well as some phychics and darks when saving PP is a issue.

you do realise how hard it is to get a legit Celebi, don't you?

Latias is also hard to get hold of...

Overall, I'd say swap in Kabutops and Latias over Azumarill and Vire, key resistance and physical prowess won't go unrewarded. Good luck in the future.

I'll consider Kabutops ^_^

Floatzel @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def / 16 Spe
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Brick Break
- Aqua Jet

Once almost ripped my team to shreds. Not nearly as bulky, but makes up for it with a nice speed stat, and with RD up, allows it to outrun practically everything. Oh, and I would also drop Rain Dance on Starmie and run Ice Beam.

Good luck!

I have this:

Floatzel @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang
- Crunch
- Aqua Jet

Is that any good?

Yea I think thats okay, since crunch can deal with Latias' weaker defense stat, and take down some ghosts- the only poke I think you lose out on hitting neutrally in OU is Empoleon, who resists your set without Brick Break.

I use a similar Floatzel, and it is amazing. I use Brick Break over Aqua Jet, since I know he's faster than everything onced rain goes up. BB is very helpful, and gives great coverage. I use Crunch the least.

the picture of your electivire freaked the heck out of me! i cant rate this team but maybe i can help you, so i was working on this new pokemon a special ditto but i cant reveal it! im not done yet...
