Syberia did some research on this last fall - as long as the Shaymin has the "Fateful Encounter" flag, it can change.

A Platinum-caught Shaymin (through the Oak's Letter event in Japan) gets the flag, as well as any event Shaymin.

Hi,

I'm wanting to begin EV training a Dragonite to increase Speed and Attack, and as this is my first time EV training i'd like to ask fro some help in clearing up some things. I've looked at plently of EV training guides online, but they didn't really help answer the following:

1. At what level is it best to start EV training?

2. How many pokemon should I battle before the EV training is complete in a certain stat? The number i've seen most often is about 250.

3. Should I EV train the one stat fully and then move on to the other, or is there a better method? i.e. should i battle lots of gyrados and max out the attack and then beat golbats to max out the speed stat?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

If you caught the Dragonite as an earlier form and battled with it to evolve it, it's got random EVs from that and you'll need to use EV reducing berries to get rid of them. Just something you should know.

The closest thing to a "best" level to EV train is "not 100" since Lv100s get no experience and no EVs. Othr than that, EV training from any level will have exactly the same results.

Also, check this out. Nice simple EVing guide.

Thanks, Im planning on breeding a decent Dratini and EV training that. Just one more thing though, back to the second question i asked, how many battles should it take before a stat is maxed out? Or is there no sure way to know this?

Roaming Pokemon will have the same nature every time you encounter them on their roaming? What I mean is their nature is set from the first time you meet them and they fly off right?

hey can anyone help me with a move set
i need a ev/moveset for a kingdra with rain dane but it HAS to out speed scarfed jirachi in the rain i want it to be specially based but still be able to take out blissey i was thinking something like rain dance/outrage/draco meteor/hydro pump or something thanks!

It depends on what Pokemon you fight. Beating up Golbats will get you more Speed than an equal amount of Zubats for example.

My usual plan (with 252/252/6 spreads) is (I'll use a 252 Sp.Atk 252 Speed 6 HP spread for this example) :
  • Infect the trainee with Pokerus
  • Give it vitamins where needed (in this case Carbos and Calcium) (100 Sp.Atk 100 Speed)
  • Equip a Power item (Band, Lens etc.) (For this example we're using the Speed one)
  • Fight Pokemon that normally give 1 EV of the stat they give (with Pokerus and the Power item, you get 10 EVs) until you have 250 EVs in that stat (In this case, I'd beat up 15 Magikarps, now we have: 250 Speed 100 Sp.Atk)
  • Remove Power item, replace with the one for the other stat and fight one more, and that stat's done and you have a small bit added to the other stat (we'd have 252 Speed and 108 Sp.Atk. The 8 is from the new Power item)
  • While still holding the new Power item, get the EVs for the stat you need 6 in (for 6 HP, I always use Bidoof. Kill three Bidoofs. That's the HP done and another 24 Sp.Atk EVs. Now we have 252 Speed, 132 Sp.Atk 6 HP)
  • Finally, beat up stuff that gives the last stat (in this example, pummel Gastlies. At this point I don't count and just occasionally check if it can get the Effort Ribbon)
And that's how I do all my EVing.

Thats a very strange problem, but i dont have a solution, sorry....
I reccomend backing up your more valuable pokes before something bad happens to your game... trade them over to an alternate version?

Um... I did back up already (I make back ups about once a week, so I am ok).
I save pretty often, so I don't mind the occasional freeze. What I would mind is if the game freezes when I am catching a rare (shiny) for example. That would suck.

Which leads me to my next question: are questions regarding R4D banned in this forum? (Cause I got a technical question regarding it, and the rules didn't really explicitly state anything against it).
Thanks.

Thanks, one last thing! As I don't have Pokerus and don't really have a way to get it anytime soon, i'd get 4 EVs instead of 10 EVs in speed for beating a magikarp right? Meaning i'd have to beat about 60 of them? Finally, after the EVs have been maxed out does it matter what type of pokemon i battle to reach lv 100? Or will this mess up the EV spread?

You would get the 1 ev, and then the additional 4 from the power item, so 5 EVs off the one magikarp, without pokerus.
It doesn't matter how you level up your pokemon after the 510 EV total has been reached, it won't affect the outcome.

No, you'd get 5 EVs. 1 for beating it, then +4 for the power item. And when it's maxed out, you can battle whatever you like - it won't matter.

If stats get Baton Passed to a Simple Bibarel, do the boosts double? (Ex. If you Baton Pass a Swords Dance to Bibarel, does it become +4 Stage?)

Can a boost be over 400% (+6 stage) to 800% when Baton Passed a Bibarel a stat with +6 stages?

Yes the Baton Passed stat boosts would double if passed to a Simple Bibarel.

No because they are still capped at +6.

I tried working with RNG abuse for a while. However, shiny's arent working. I always hatch two pokemon, and both turn out normal. I also check their natures with the nature list of all egg PID's around the spot i want to hit, and that doesnt correlate either. For instance, I would get two naughty magikarps in a row both non shiny. and the nearest chain of 2 naughty's on the generated list is over 100 steps away from the step that I targeted.

Is it possible that the SID someone gave me is wrong?

I'm 99% sure that you need the event shaymin in order for the flower to work.

no if you have the flower you can use it on any shaymin to turn it into skymin (as long as its in platinum, i did it (got a fateful encounter shaymin from friend and got flower)

i wanted to raise a adamant natured dragonite but use choice scarf as an item and wanted to know the amount of speed ev's i would have to invest to get past jolly natured 100 base pokemon.

RNG: Where to Start?

Hi everybody on Smogon! As you can tell by my pathetic post count, I guess I would count as being a bit of a newbie around here. Anyway, I have recently become highly interested with RNG-abusing. I have already discovered my Pearl version's Secret ID and downloaded the RNGReport program, but I don't know where to start. Most importantly, I don't know which Pokemon I should start with. I would appreciate it dearly if someone can help me out here. Thank you!

On another note, is it possible to RNG-abuse in Ruby/Sapphire/LeafGreen/FireRed? I also have an Emerald version, so if it's easier on that, tell me.
