  • Location Maps. We want a world map that points to the location of competitive items and for move tutors, for Platinum, FR/LG, and Emerald. This world map needs to be drawn of course. The Map should be a supplement to a simple list of the items/move tutors and their locations.
Basically we are looking for a good sized map of the Sinnoh region, something along the lines of this, on which the locations of competitive items and TMs are labelled. This will need to be made ourselves, we can't use it from another source, and we're looking for some budding artists to volunteer here and help get this done :).

As far as 'competitive' items go, I have a basic list of them here + locations:

Code:
List of competitive TMs and their locations.

[list][*][b]TM01 - Focus Punch[/b] - To find TM01, you need to go to the basement of Oreburgh Gate. To reach this TM you need the HMs Surf, Rock Smash, and Strength. Looking for screencaps!

(if anyone has an emulator and is willing to screenshot the locations where these items are, I'm sure we could use them somewhere in this project too)

Post in this thread if you're willing to contribute to this project by expanding on these descriptions, have any other suggestions or questions, or would be able to make a large world map onto which we can label the item locations.

I think we might have to list the stat-boosting berries in a pinch, such salac and petaya. Also, shouldn't items like the Adamant and Griseous orbs be added?

Anyways, I'll be willing to help out with the item descriptions.

EDIT: As mingot pointed out, if some locations changed in Platinum, will we be doing two maps?

While the pinch berries are definitely competitive, there is in fact no way to get them in-game in the 4th gen. They need to be pal parked forward from RSE in order to obtain them, so there's no point including them on the map.

As far as I know, only the locations of the Return and Hidden Power TMs changed from DP to platinum, so it will be very easy just to have two labels with "TM26 Return (Plat)" and "TM26 Return (DP)". I don't think there are enough changes to warrant two separate maps. Does anyone knows of any other location changes between DP and platinum?

Would it be possible to make the giant map have clickable locations, so for example when someone clicks the label for "TM26 Return" on the map it takes them to a screenshot of the exact location of the item, along with directions of how to reach it, specifically?

If so, I would like to start getting screenshots and instructions. Although, it'll probably require me to restart the game :(

That's exactly what one of our ideas was - the only issue with this was the lack of programmers we have. If we can get a good programmer for this, then yes, we would definitely do this.

Just posting (even though I told LR on IRC) to say that besides Hidden Power and Return, the only TMs that move are Defog and Strength lol

Just a note: I can help, and will start writing paragraphs for the TMs soon.

I can also help with gettin pictures.. do you mean sth like

?
Not quite like that. It'll be closer to taking a lot of screenshots, putting them together to form a "map" of that area, with certain areas highlighted. An Example will be a map like this (http://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/GBA/Pokemon-FL-Kanto.png), separated into regions and shrunk.

Sarenji also volunteered to take on this project, so we'll get an interactive map, in addition to the big map! So we'll definitely need help collecting screenshots.

I can do this, it's pretty easy to be honest.... and when you hold the mouse over the location off something, then a picture of the location + text will be shown

EDIT: I can script; HTML, PHP, MySQL, Javascript(not very good)...

Nook and I were going to work on these.

Nook is gonna be screenshotting and I'll be writing paragraphs in the style written so far.

Great Sage

Banned deucer.
You may want to note that the glasses man in Celestic Town only gives Wise Glasses at night and Choice Specs in the morning.

Yeah, I plan on doing that. Also, LegacyRaider, for the list in the first post, you can't buy Choice Specs, so you can only have one.

In a similar vein to jumpluff's post about hidden items in the FR/LG counterpart to this thread, here's one for Platinum (and I assume DP would have the same stuff).

One standout point is that there are a few respawning Star Pieces in Iron Island. And in Platinum the Fuego Ironworks guy will give you one of each shard per Star Piece you give him. Great for collecting Shards for tutors.

Okay, Nook and I have started getting screenshots for the TMs. I'd just like to say that since I have to restart my Platinum (on a ROM), it may take me a bit longer than Nook.

I can attempt the large map, similar to what was posted in the OP

EDIT: Well, maybe I can. Sent a PM to Sarenji asking exactly what he wants.

I'm walking through walls on a new ROM
I'll be going about the same speed as you.

For the screencaps, I recommend pausing it for now. We may have found a solution to getting maps for all of this, and we're contacting people to see if we can use their resources.

Sorry to stop it for now, but I believe we all want what's the best to be on Smogon - these maps are recreations that look pretty good, and it'd be awesome if we can use them. So keep tight, I'll keep you guys updated.
