A very annoying OU team.

Hello all, this is my first post here on Smogon! I was into D/P back when they came out and I was way into the online battle scene. However I spent too much time with it and decided to stop for my own good. I recently picked up Platinum and got back into it, and in my search for Pokemon resources I found this wonderful site!

I decided to make up and team and see what happened. After playing with it on Shoddy for a few hours I think i like it. What do you think?

Lead - Metagross
376.png

Ability: Clear Body
Held Item: Occa berry
EVs: 252HP/236Atk/12Def/8Spe
Nature: Adamant
Moveset:
1. Stealth Rock
2. Earthquake
3. Bullet Punch
4. Explosion

This guy's only real purpose is to get Stealth Rock out quickly, then take out as many Pokemon as possible before exploding. Earthquake + a Bullet Punch is usually enough to finish off most other leads. The Occa Berry helps with any Fire leads but he has problems with Gliscor and Bronzong. Crobat can be annoying because he likes to taunt but otherwise doesn't pose a threat.

Opener - Kingdra

Ability: Swift Swim
Held Item: Life Orb
EVs: 252Atk/232Spe/24SpA
Nature: Adamant
Moveset:
1. Dragon Dance
2. Outrage
3. Waterfall
4. Hydro Pump

In the event of Metagross exploding, Kingdra is a safe choice when I don't know what my opponent is going to send out. He is also very good support for anything that threatens to hurt my big metal friend. I've never had him OHKOed by anything except a Latias or Salamence using Draco Meteor so he can usually get a Dragon Dance out and do his thing. Hydro Pump is there for breaking down physical walls but I honestly have yet to use it. Any suggestions on that last move would be appreciated.

Dragon Killer - Mamoswine

473.jpg

Ability: Snow Cloak
Held Item: Choice Band
EVs: 252Atk/4Def/252Spe
Nature: Adamant
Moveset:
1. Earthquake
2. Ice Shard
3. Stone Edge
4. Superpower

I'm not sure how much I like this guy. If I manage to switch into a dragon type with him, Ice Shard is a sure OHKO and it's wonderfully useful. Otherwise Mamoswine is pretty fragile and can't really take a hit. Earthquake is sort of mandatory and Stone Edge comes in handy, but with Choice Band, Superpower often goes unused because it's only useful once.

Surprise - Charizard

Ability: Blaze
Held Item: Life Orb
EVs: 60Atk/192Spe/252SpA
Nature: Rash
Moveset:
1. Fire Blast
2. Hidden Power Grass
3. Focus Punch
4. Air Slash

I have found this Charizard is very useful for taking down unsuspecting Swamperts with Hidden Power and Fire Blast is great for Bronzong. It's attacks counter pretty much everything that poses a threat to it except electric types (Mamoswine has his back, I suppose). Focus Punch isn't my favorite move but it fills the spot. Air Slash is great vs Heracross and Toxicroak.

Wtf? - Rotom-C
Mow%20Rotom.png

Ability: Levitate
Held Item: Life Orb
EVs: 4HP/252Spe/252SpA
Nature: Modest
Moveset:
1. Thunderbolt
2. Hidden Power Fighting
3. Leaf Storm
4. Shadow Ball

This is probably my favorite Pokemon in the team. I usually switch him in on Pokemon trying to use Earthquake on Metagross and take them down with HP Fighting. I've gotten a few 'wtf?'s and it works very well. Rotom also takes care of water Pokemon without a weakness to grass so they don't put Charizard's fire out. Leaf Storm is a great move if you don't mind switching Rotom out right afterwards. The other two moves are pretty self-explanatory.

Tank? - Drapion
452.png

Ability: Battle Armor
Held Item: Leftovers
EVs: 252HP/6Atk/252Def
Nature: Impish
Moveset:
1. Taunt
2. Toxic Spikes
3. Crunch
4. Whirlwind

This guy is SO annoying. I feel almost evil using him. I'm not sure if he's cut out to be a wall at all but he can take a physical attack very well. I've made the mistake of switching him in on a special attack, though and I wouldn't do it again. He's more of a staller, I guess. I usually like to switch Drapion in right after Metagross lays down Stealth Rock if it's safe and immediately use Toxic Spikes. I then proceed to use Whirlwind as many times as I can to get the most residual damage. This Drapion can't do any real damage but he sure is fun to use and annoying as hell.

Well, that's it! Suggestions would be much appreciated! Anyways I'm glad to be a new member here and i think Shoddy battle is awesome. ;)

Why not use Knock Off over Crunch on Drapion? With Whirlwind and his decent speed (I recommend you get it to 300 to out speed neutral nature base 100s) you can keep scouting your opponent's team and taking off items that fancy you like Choice Band, Life Orb, Leftovers, etc. You lose some defensive power but you can really mess up your opponent and with your team, easing prediction can be very helpful.

Hope that helps!

Welcome to Smogon, here's what I noticed about your team.

Metagross-This is a pretty good lead, no complaints.

Kingdra-Hmm, it would probably be a good idea to keep Hydro Pump, although Yawn could be good for countering the Latias and Salamence that will probably try to get rid of it.

Mamoswine-He seems fine to me, Superpower is mainly useful against Bronzong, so you may consider Ice Fang.

Charizard-You don't see many of those these days, however, there's one reason for that, Stealth Rock. It takes half of his health away when he goes in, which means you can't switch him out otherwise he's toast, so I reccomend this set:

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
Nature: Naive
EVs: 64 Atk/252 Sp. Atk/192 Spd
Moves:
Fire Blast
Close Combat
Hidden Power Ice
Grass Knot

Infernape is neutral to SR, and has a better fighting move than Focus Punch [which by the way, is only useful if you have a sub on it].

Rotom-Looks good to me, a nice, bulky, and strong special attaker.

Drapion-I agree with familyguyman, you should put on Knock Off and more speed EVs, though I'm not particually sure how many.

Good Luck with your team!

Lead metagross- not bad but i usally run reflect or light screen over earthquake just to support frail sweepers

Kingdra- switch the ability to sniper, since you don't have any Rain support, take off hydro pump for yawn too, since you are adamant anyway

Mamo- hmm nice dragon killer but i think donphan would be a superior choice

Impish
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
~ Rapid Spin
~ Earthquake
~ Ice Shard
~ Stone Edge

does everything a mamo swine can do (mostly) 120 base Attack and Defense for a defensive wall too, and most importantly gives spin support for chaizard and can blow away any spikes or toxic spikes

Charizard- focus punch is nearly impossible without a substitute.. .and charizard is outclassed by heatran in OU... why not try this set?

Heatran
timid leftovers
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~ Fire Blast
~ Earth Power
~ Substitute
~ Hidden power grass

Hits swampert with HP, fire blast for bronzong and heracross, earth power for croagunk, and since heatran can scare away a lot of pokemon with a scarf-threat, you can almost always get a protective sub up.

Rotom- Perfect really nice, can work well covering heatran's ground weakness too

Drapion- hmm again i think is outclassed by the fantastic defensive power of forretress along with more entry hazards and explosion support for power

Relaxed
252 HP / 112 Atk / 144 Def
~ Toxic Spikes / Spikes pure choice of yours
~ earthquake
~ Reflect/ light screen
~ Explosion

also this can be used for screen support to help out

Kingdra- switch the ability to sniper, since you don't have any Rain support, take off hydro pump for yawn too, since you are adamant anyway

I disagree with sniper, reason being:
This team is weak to a good Rain Dance Team, Ludicolo can both wall and sweep everyone but Meteagross and Kabutops/Omastar Sweep everyone. The only chance this team has to beat a good rain team is if kingra is able to outspeed and beat the threats such as Kabutops and Omastar.

and yes while he does have adamant, it still has a decent enough SAtj stat to do a good amount of damage to pokes like Hippowdon and Skarmory.

Hello, and welcome to Smogon! =)

Well, to be completely honost...Charizard is a horrid choice on a team with no Rapid Spinner. While it does counter many threats nicely, Infernape does the exact same thing, with no weakness to Stealth Rock. Mixed Infernape (or MixApe) is also an amazing StallBreaker Pokemon, and your team looks like it has problems with stall. Here is the set:

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 64 Atk / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Naive nature (+Speed, -Special Defense)
~ Fire Blast / Flamethrower
~ Close Combat
~ Grass Knot
~ Hidden Power Ice

Mixed Infernape is definitely one of the most dominant forces in the OU metagame, making people rethink their entire teams in order to counter it. With great stats in both offensive categories, and an awesome speed stat, Infernape requires virtually no setup to sweep teams. The best thing about adding an Infernape to your team would be that the other members of your team cover its weaknesses perfectly. Water attacks would go to Kingrda, Psychic to Metagross, and Flying / Ground to Rotom. The set is fairly self explanitory; Close Combat is a must on almost any Infernape set, giving 'Ape strong physical STAB, as well as the means to majorly destroy Blissey and Tyranitar. Grass Knot allows you to OHKO Swampert, as well as 2HKOing many other bulky waters such as Milotic and Slowbro (Suicune is 3HKOed after a Calm Mind, 2HKOed without). Hidden Power Ice is a great option for hitting the common OU dragons for hard damage, should your Mamoswine fall before your opponent's Salamence has been brought out.

Now, the choice between Flamethrower and Fire Blast is mostly a matter of personal preference. If you are more of a conservative, safe player, then Flamethrower is for you. However, if you are willing to take risks, than the payout will be much greater from Fire Blast (judging by the fact that you use Hydro Pump on Kingdra, I would assume you a "high-risk, high-return player?). Just as an interesting little side note, Fire Blast has proven to be statistically better than Flamethrower, garning some important OHKOes over 2HKOes. Also, it should be noted that Vaporeon gives this set hell, as Grass Knot does very low damage to it, and it can OHKO back with Surf. For that reason, Vappy would have to be handled by Rotom-C.

If you chose to keep Charizard, you should definitely get a Rapid Spinning Donphan in the place of Mamoswine (with Ice Shard). Stealth Rock is present in over half of the matches in the standard metagame, and as I'm sure you have seen in your battles, Rocks eat Charizard for breakfast. Donphan can still function as a fine Dragon Killer.

Anyway, I hope that I helped you, and good luck! =)
