Video game recommendations?

Did she get DJ Max Portable? If so, it's Korean, not Japanese ;) You can get PS1 games onto the PSP through the PlayStation Store. If you hack your PSP, you can also turn your own PSX games into PSP compatible files using POPStation (I think that's what it's called).
 
The World Ends with You is an amazing game, but only if you are up to a lot of reading and story.

Otherwise, you'll be skipping all the dialog, which is the best part of the game.

No, she didn't get that. If you know who this is then you probably know what game it is.

And Xaqwais, TWEWY was in the list of games we have. And we've pretty much done everything in it except the secret boss on the hardest difficulty setting. And yes, we're fond of story stuff.
 
Sorry for bumping this, but I have one last question.

Was Tales of Symphonia released in Australia? Or are we going to have to use Ebay or something to get a UK copy?

EDIT: Found a copy of ToS on Ebay. I'm amazed "low level animated violence" is enough to get it rated M with Australia's clssifications. Especially considering I have a few games that also have "low level animated violence" but rated much lower, like Wind Waker. Weird.

If you and your girlfriend liked PSO Ep. I&II, then you guys might like Phantsy Star Universe. Just a thought ^__^
 
might i suggest "tomba! 2: the evil swine return"? although you said she likes rpgs and stuff more than action/adventure/platforming. it's still an amazing game though and i'm replaying it now so i thought i'd mention it.

when it comes out, you must absolutely get scribblenauts. check out the thread here for why.
 
Just kinda bumping to say that I got hooked on Tales of Symphonia, that was a good suggestion. Then, the day after we got it, my sister went shopping with my dad and bought three games, all Dragon Quest games (The two recent English releases of older ones, I believe they're 4 and 5, and Rocket Slime). All of these are great games, but stay away from Dragon Quest if you hate puns, they're FULL of them. (Case in point: The Slime one features tank fights, and one is against a tank themed after the appearance of a knight. Its name and description? Fort Knight: not too weak. I'm not kidding)

On another note:
If you and your girlfriend liked PSO Ep. I&II, then you guys might like Phantsy Star Universe. Just a thought ^__^

Hired once, didn't like. Also, SISTER, not girlfriend. I'm gonna go be sick now, that's a mental image I could've lived without.
 
I figure it'd make more sense to bump this as opposed to making a new thread that's almost identical, so yeah.

I feel like it's about time I got a new game (mostly to tide me over until late March with HG/SS) but have no clue as to what.

Games I've gotten since last time:
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (great game)
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (better than the first one)
New Super Mario Bros Wii (can't get into it solo, sisters aren't really Mario gamers)
Zelda Spirit Tracks (pretty good, better than Phantom Hourglass)

Remember, suggestions need to be:
  • For Wii, DS, PSP, PS2 or able to be played on those thanks to backwards compatibility
  • Available in Australia (could import for the portables but would rather not)
The most interesting thing I can think of that I know is out is the Tales of Symphonia sequel. Haven't seen it anywhere but the Wii's Nintendo Channel says it's been out here for a while. I've read many times that it's not as good as the first one, but is it a decent game if you're not comparing it to the prequel?

Please tell me that bumping this was indeed a better idea than making a "sequel" to the thread.
 
I'd like to recommend Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. It's funny (I thought it was funnier than Inside Story, IMO) and the battle system is elegantly simple (most damage is in single digits, you can see enemy HP, so you can plan out battles well), as well as Mario being more customizable as the game goes on due to the badge system. I'm currently playing Bowser's Inside Story and I still think Thousand Year Door is better.

The only problem is that cutscenes are unskippable.

Also, try the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series (starting from game 1). The first game is the best, along with the 3rd game, but the second game has a very good concluding case (do NOT spoil yourself about it, whatever you do) if you get discouraged by it.

Note that I don't know of any of these games' availability in Australia, but you should be able to find Thousand Year Door (and possibly Phoenix Wright), as it isn't rare that I know of.

Go grab Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. It's decent enough. I'm not sure if Tales of the Abyss came out in Australia, but if so, definitely get that. Kind of pricey these days though. Star Ocean: Til the End of Time could be a good choice too but don't think it has multiplayer.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for it. I believe that the Symphonia duo are the only Tales games that Australia got, so Abyss is a no-go.

Multiplayer isn't as much of a priority this time, we recently got a few Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. Sisters enjoy them, I have about as much musical talent as something with no musical talent (read: most artists these days lol) so I just watch.
