Team Death Looms Over you

Introduction

Hey, this is Sheogorath presenting Team Death looms upon you. I started this team as I start most teams: what's one of the most threatening Pokémon in standard play that can still support a team I want to make? After much deliberation and testing, I've decided to make a team based on a Breloom sweep, a great Pokémon many are weak to. Let's take a look, shall we?

Team building process

Obviously, the team is going to have Breloom, since that is who it is based off.

I decided Heatran is an excellent partner to Breloom, and could capitalize on my opponents crippled team by either further crippling it or causing major damage.

Looking at the weaknesses of these 2, I wanted powerful bulky water that covered both their weaknesses nicely and could capitalize on a weakened or crippled opponent’s team. In went Gyarados.

It was here that I decided on the lead. Metagross fit the bill nicely, capitalizing on the resistances and immunities brought by the team so far, bringing further bulkiness to the field.

The analysis on Metagross says Choice Specs Latias is an excellent partner to Metagross, and after testing, this was extremely true. In went Latias.

Lastly, I needed a revenge killer, a good rock resist, and a scout to help Breloom sweep. After much deliberation, I decided to go with Flygon.

After many helpful rates and suggestions, I replaced Flygon with a Scarfrachi. Also, to compensate for my now gone electric immunity, I replaced Metagross with Mixpert.

Under the microscope

Swampert @ Leftovers **Dealer
Relaxed
Torrent
240 HP/216 def/ 52 spA
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
-Roar
-Stealth Rock

Swampert starts things off with excellent defenses, as well as phazing properties, laying down stealth rock, and boasting 2 excellent attacks. It's the standard mixpert, with apowerful STAB Earthquake, and Ice Beam to deal with flyers/ Dragons, mostly. Stealth Rock turns 3HKO's into valuable 2HKO's and so on and so forth. Roar allows me to phaze the opponent, if need be. The EVs are made still take a +1 Life Orbed Outrage from most Salamence, and OHKO with Ice Beam even without prior SR damage.

*Swampert deals drugs to the rest of the team, so they all effectively nickname him the "dealer".

latias.png

Latias @ Choice Specs **Innocence
Timid
Levitate
4 HP/252 sp attk/252 spe
-Draco Meteor
-Thunderbolt
-Trick
-Surf

Latias is excellent in tandem with Metagross, effectively KOing its own counters. Non defensive Tyranitar easily overcome by a Draco Meteor, and Scizor is 2HKOed by Surf. Thunderbolt for overall coverage. Latias normally comes in on something it resists to fire off a powerful Draco Meteor or Surf, depending on what I’ve seen of the opponent’s team so far. Trick cripples incoming tanks, or otherwise those wishing to set up on Latias.

**Latias is an innocent Pokemon, who is immune to decay and drugs.

breloom.png

Breloom @ Toxic Orb *Shrooms
Adamant
Poison Heal
48 HP/ 252 attk/ 208 spe
-Focus Punch
-Spore
-Seed Bomb
-Substitute

The star of the show, Breloom normally comes in on something slow, after a U-Turn from Flygon or an otherwise an attack Breloom resists. After Breloom gets a Spore in, it can proceed to wreck havoc on the opposing team with either Focus Punch or Seed Bomb, 2 powerful STAB moves capable of putting at least a dent in everything. Substitute allows ease in prediction, making it easier to choose between Focus Punch and Seed Bomb, depending on how my opponent reacts.

**Honestly, what else could I make Breloom's nickname? He's a fighting mushroom that kicks ass and takes names; all under the influence of his own shrooms. Yeah, his Spore attack? It's really him cramming a couple dozen shrooms in the other Pokemon to cause deep sleep.;D

heatran.png

Heatran @ Leftovers *Loves2Blaze
Timid
Flash Fire
128 HP/212 spA/168 spe
-Substitute
-Flamethrower
-Toxic
-Earth power

Sub Heatran heats things up by coming in on a fire or ice type attack. With the attack glancing off of it, Heatran then proceeds to set up a sub and wreck havoc for the opposing team. Toxic cripples Heatran’s usual counters, as Vaporeon, Swampert, and Suicune come to mind. Earth power allows me an easy KO on opposing Heatran, and a neutral attack on many other things. I am, however, debating a Hidden power in the last slot, possibly Ice or even Electric. Lava Plume allows Heatran to act almost as a double status, with Lava Plumes’ superior accuracy to Fire Blast and a nice 30% burn rate.

**Have you ever wondered where Heatran gets his fire source from, and how on earth he can use Toxic? Yeah, he's got a couple dozen blunts inside of him, thus poisoning his opponent with the noxious fumes.

Jirachi-1.gif

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf **Great Sage
Hasty
Serene Grace
4 HP/252 attk/252 speed
-U-turn
-Ice Punch
-Thunderbolt
-Iron Head

Jirachi is an excellent addition to the team, effectively revenge killing Gyarados and Salamence with ease via Thunderbolt and Ice Punch, respectively. Iron Head is an excellent STAB move that deals heavy damage to Tyranitar and others, and boast an excellent 60% flinch rate thanks to Serene Grace. U-turn allows Jirachi to act as a scout, paving the way for Breloom and others to set up. Max speed EVs to at least tie with max speed Salamence after a DD, effectively OHKOing it with Ice Punch.

** Great Sage because Jirachi gives the other team members a way in, while expertly dealing with threats, the way a powerful sage would.

gyarados.png

Gyarados @ Leftovers **Meth Dragon
Adamant
Intimidate
156 HP/ 72 attk/96 def/ 184 spe
-Dragon Dance
-Waterfall
-Taunt
-Stone Edge

Gyarados is my answer to most fighting types, and is my bulky water. It usually comes in mid game, where it proceeds to either set up, or disallow something coming in to set up via taunt. STAB Waterfall is a given for Gyarados, and Stone Edge allows me to KO Salamence, opposing Gyarados, etc.

** Youtube "Snorlax owns" and you'll find out why Gyarados is named Meth Dragon.

Hey this is a pretty solid team, but I have a few suggestions for it. First off you want to transfer the EVs from Def on Metagross to Spd, to outspeed other Metagross. These could be problematic as most run around 16 speed, not bothering to go 20. Also, there's no reason for the 20 EVs in HP on Latias so just go with max SpA. Metagross also doesn't really need Earthquake if it isn't Occa Berry, so just go with Meteor Mash to hit random shit like Azelf harder. On Latias, you're going to need excellent prediction just to hit Tyranitar, and being locked into Grass Knot means you're going to be inviting Scizor to come in. Just change the moveset to Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse/Surf/Trick. Surf still 2HKOs Tyranitar and Scizor, bar like 252 SpD version of Tyranitar, so it should come in handy just as well. Breloom already makes a fine switchin to Swampert and SpD Tyranitar, so these shouldn't pose enough of a threat to use Grass Knot.

You're missing some EVs on Heatran, so I assume it is the standard 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SpA with a Timid Nature. Just go with that if it isn't already like that. The final change for your team is to change Flygon's nature to Jolly and run Stone Edge over Fire Blast. Fire Blast will be doing pitiful damage against SpD Skarmory anyway, and Stone Edge will allow you to revenge kill Gyarados and weakened Salamence without getting locked into Outrage. The +Spd nature will allow you to at least tie with other base 100s with a positive nature, which are just becoming more and more common. Anyway I hope I helped and good luck!

Thanks for the rate, the changes have been made. However, in Latias's case, I have replaced Grass Knot not with Dragon Pulse, but with T-bolt for extra coverage.

Team Adjustments:

Your Team: Lead Metagross, Specs Latias, Breloom, SubHeatran, Flygon, DD Gyarados

Heatran - I suggest replacing Lava Plume for Flamethrower as you are given more power while it's 30% burn rate is interfering with Toxic. For example, if your Lava Plume burns a Vaporeon, the Vaporeon is now protected from your Toxic. While Lava Plume isn't very powerful at all and won't help you defeat a CM Jirachi with Wish. I also suggest maxing out it's Sp.Atk.

Resolutions to Threats:

Nothing in your team really stops DD Salamence or DD Gyarados from sweeping you. So instead of Scarf Flygon, I suggest Choice Scarf Jirachi with Ice Punch and Thunderbolt.

This change should solidify your team.

An excellent rate, Arin.:toast: I'll begin testing Scarfrachi immediately, and I'll also be testing Fire Blast over Lava Plume since, as you say, the change in power may well be worth it.

Oh, and here's the Jirachi set you might want to try:

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Naive
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Speed / 4 SpA
~ Iron Head
~ Ice Punch
~ Thunderbolt
~ Trick

As you can see, it can handle DD Salamence and Gyarados. While it can also stop stall with Trick and at the same not be walled by SkarmBliss.

After some testing, I've decided Fire Blast is indeed the superior choice in regards to Heatran. As for the Scarfrachi idea, I found myself needing that extra ground immunity more often than not, and that Flygon also provides other useful resistances, being the Dragon/Ground that it is. Most noticeably, Electric, as well as the occasional HP Fire. I've also found Flygon handles a weakened Salamence and Gyarados rather well on its own with Stone Edge or Outrage, and like I said, I use EQ only on occasion or late game. U-turn is by far my most common move option, followed by Stone Edge for flyers, and Outrage for cleaning up.

Any other suggestions? I'm always keen on making improvements.

The team is pretty solid as it is, seeing as people have already made good changes to help it be to the best ability that it can.

Saying that, I have a better feeling you should use ScarfRachi over ScarfFlygon still. ScarfFlygon can resist Thunder Waves among other electric attacks, yes, but without ScarfRachi, Scarf Latias poses a great threat to your team. I think ScarfRachi can still replace ScarfFlygon with a few minor changes.

385.png

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Hasty Nature
Serene Grace
80 HP/252 Att/176 Speed
Moves:
-Iron Head
-U-Turn
-Thunderbolt/Fire Punch
-Ice Punch/Thunderbolt

I still like the idea of running Thunderbolt on this ScarfRachi as it can still OHKO a Gyarados after SR without having to worry about Intimidate. However, without Fire Punch, you are somewhat walled by Scizor unless you choose to Iron Head stall. Ice Punch is also a good option for Mence, DNite, and Flygon but you can also put Thunderbolt for such said Gyarados.

As for resisting Thunder Waves, I think that you should change something for a ground type, maybe someone else will have a good idea of what, or just have Metagross take your TWaves after getting up Stealth Rocks.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion, Gridirion.:toast: I have tested your Scarfrachi with the following moveset: U-turn, Ice Punch, Thunderbolt, Iron Head in tandem with testing out a ground type to cover what I lose by replacing Flygon; by replacing Metagross with Lead Mixpert.

I have to say, it's been working excellently. I'll make the changes shortly, unless someone can suggest a better replacement than Swampert in that slot. Thanks again.:pimp:
