(insert witty title here) OU team

Hi, first post here on Smogon. I'm not exactly the best team builder, and/or a pro at the game, which is exactly why I came here and was thinking if it's possible to improve my current team:

Changes in Bold

Infernape_Pixel_over_PNG_387376_kupMG_thumb.png

Pyrotechnician (Infernape) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 64 Atk/192 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Close Combat
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Fake Out

The lead ape set. Fakes out opposing leads, sets up stealth rocks, and whatnot. A basic lead that counters a lot of other leads. I originally ran a scarfed infernape lead, but it didn't stop opposing leads, and didn't get rocks up, so yeah. This a basic lead that fakes out the opponent, breaking his sash (if he has one) and sets up rocks

Sunshine (Latias) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Trick

Originally, I ran a DDmence. But it didn't do shit, and died quickly. Then I changed it to Scarfmence, but I had no rapid spinner, and died to stealth rock. So I tried Scarfed Flygon, and Scarfed Latias. Scarf latias packed more punch with Draco Meteor without being locked (by locked, I mean outrage's effect where i can't switch out), and had the ability to cripple blissey with trick.

Emo Source (Rotom-h) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Trick
- Shadow Ball

Fighting, Normal, and Ground Absorber. Walls and kills scizor Scizor. Blocks Rapid Spin and Explosion. How can you not like this thing? I originally ran a RestTalk set with WoW, but I found out I could handle water types better if i had a TrickScarf set. I try not to reveal him too early, because if I ever do, it dies quickly, and I might need it later on in the match. This is my basic steel counter. And most imporantly, it's the only guy in my entire team that can counter and scare lucario, even after a SD. However, one big loss I take from switching to this set is that I no longer have a safe switch for breloom, and still be able to do something without breloom sporing me.

scizor.jpg

Razor (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP/252 Atk/8 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit

My physical Sweeper. Kills off any weak guys with Bullet Punch, scouts with U-Turn, Destroys incoming heatran with superpower, and kills psychics/ghosts with pursuit. It does it's job perfectly. I might switch Choice Band with expert belt or muscle band, to bluff a choice band, and get a surprise kill in.

jirachi02.gif

Athena (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch
- U-turn

Jirachi is a choice scarfer, and a revenge killer. This gets 100% walled by heatran though, so I dunno if I should change Fire Punch to something else, or the more gimmicky Drain Punch to deal with Heatran. However, most other sweepers, like salamence, gengar, latias, as long as they don't have max speed and a scarf (or a +1 dragon dance), I can kill.

suicune.png

Water Wolf (Suicune) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Roar

Suicune is my shuffler. I originally used Swampert as both my stealth rocker and my shuffler. But with infernape changed, swampert needed changing too. I found out that suicune does the job better. I basically roar to see what the opponent has, and see what he can do. I use calm mind when I know the opponent will switch. And if i get enough calm minds, my opponent doesn't have a chance, as long as I keep roaring his counters away.

Please tell me what I should do to improve my team's effectiveness. The only major threats I can think of are Rotom-A, Dusknoir, Heatran (if ape and mence are down), Jolteon/Raikou (to some extent), Starmie, and Suicune. Thanks :)

I'm not seeing the point of the scarfed infernape lead. The most common leads you're going to see out there are probably azelf, metagross, swampert, and aerodactyl. You have to u-turn on azelf, which won't kill it due to the fact that the vast majority of them run focus sashes and it will stealth rock and see another part of your team. Swampert will laugh at you and set up. Metagross runs occa berry so you can't 1hko him and that means he'll be getting rocks up. Really, the point of the lead is either to get rocks down, or prevent the opponent from getting rocks down and hopefully contribute something later. Infernape without fake out and rocks of its own doesn't really do a lot for you. If you're set on leading with infernape, I'd go for

Infernape @ Focus Sash
EVs: 64 Atk / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Naive nature
~ Fake Out
~ Stealth Rock
~ Fire Blast
~ Close Combat / Encore

Ripped shamelessly from Smogon's strategy pokedex.

Alright then, I'll take your word for it, and use that set.
However, if ape has rocks, then shouldn't I replace swampert's moveset?
I was thinking along the lines of replacing swampert's rocks with waterfall or a surf.

Also, since I am losing a scarfer, should i try a scarf'ed rotom-h with trick?

Sorry if i sound a bit noobish, but I got into this a few months ago. Still learning some things here.

Well you could scarf your Rotom and make it a Rotom H so you have an easier time against water types.

Also if you want a slightly better Roar'er then Suicune or Latias can CM and phaze with Roar while setting up and retaining their bulkyness. Both also do swamperts job of stopping fire types.

Alright, I'll try testing your idea, and see which pokes work best.

Whoa take off the scarf on Salamence as SR is on pretty much any team which hampers your salamence. Flygon and Latias do the whole scarfed Dragon better as neither are weak to SR and Flygon actually resists it.

Hey what's up Death Ark, you currently have a good team going on, But I'm sure I can fix it to make it even more better. You said you currently are thinking about taking off Fire Blast, my recommendation is you don't because Fire Blast can be very crucial reason being it OHKOs standard Azelf leads and more. You currently have 4 things on your team that are on some kind of choice item, that's just hitting it on the head a bit because you don't really explain the uses for them for example why are you using ScarfMence because DDmence sucks? there's many other of different varitions of Salamence though what I think fits the new set of Salamence is MixMence. The reason you don't need Choice scarfed Salamence is the Stealth rock Damage it takes in every turn plus when you add weather to that it's just complete suicide. MixMence does way more damage also can deal with some bulky waters, and it has easy recovery. So here's the set you might want to be trying:

Salamence @ Life orb
Nature: Rash
80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Moveset: Draco Meteor, Fire Blast, Roost, Brick break

Fire Blast is for OHKO on Defensive Celebis and Sp.Defensive Skarmory and of course many more Steel types, Brick Break is for Tyranitars, Heatrans, Lucarios etc. Roost is for the recovery as explained which is crucial due to Stealth rock damage and possible weather. Draco Meteor is pretty much Self explanatory.

I'm kind of tired right now, That's all I could find a problem at the minute.
Tomorrow I might wake up and take a peak but other then that good luck.

I never said that it sucks, i just said that it didn't do shit, because it usually dies quickly.

Come to think of it, scarfed sala isn't such a good idea with a team without rapid spin. I'll try to see what works best. Mixmence, scarfed flygon, or scarf latias.
