Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

Thanks for the reply Tr4q. But I should've been more specific. I'm actually aiming for a particular seed with a high delay, so it isn't button mashing. And I am able to hit very close to the delay. It's just the seed is off by A LOT.

Info: Calibrated delay/seconds: 489/13
Wanted Delay/seconds: 755/any*i just pick an arbitrary one and update as needed*

Seed: 240402FE (HP Electric 70, Flawless Suicune ;) )

My seed comes out along the lines of 1A0.....etc. yet my delay around 753-757.

Sorry for the long post and any help is appreciated.

You need to give us more information. Are you sure you are using the correct day, month and year in both the DS and RNG Reporter? The delay isn't the only thing you need for your seed. The second is also pretty important too.

You can't just pick an arbitrary second. You need to find a specific time and date that seed occurs at using the Seed to Time function of RNG Reporter.

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to know if changing the time and date to match the second timer (or not doing this) can be affecting my results.

As far as picking an arbitrary second goes, I choose one, but the delay comes out way too low, so I update and the second timer changes. Do I still use the same time and date or do I change the seconds reading in the RNG reporter *seed to time function* to match the seconds of the second timer after updating for the delay and use that new time and date?

I haven't RNGed for a year but now I've come back after buying Heart Gold, so I am completely new to RNG in HGSS.

With this in mind, how would I RNG a Shiny Timid Natural Cure Staryu that I will use a Super Rod to find in Olivine City?

We don't have the encounter slots \ Super Rod routine figured out yet, but mingot is working on it.

I am confused about method k and method j

it seems they are both referred to for rnging wild pokemon, I'm on soulsilver and am trying to rng for a suicune, do i use method j? Is there a difference? lol can someone distinguish the two for me?

From the very second post of this thread, the one where we have all the HGSS stuff:

"All roamers (Raikou, Entei, and the Latis), as well as gift Pokemon (all of the starters, Eevee, Togepi, Game Corner Pokemon, etc.) are Method 1.
Everything else uses Method K."

Yeah, but I have absolutely no idea what Method K is, can't seem to find anything on Method K, maybe I'm blind :nerd:

It's just a way the games have of generating Pokemon, it's programmed into RNG Reporter so it can be used to predict what Pokemon (IVs and nature) appear and when.

Don't worry too much about it, just make sure you select it from the Method drop-down box in RNG Reporter when RNGing for Method K Pokemon.

Omega, I tried to RNG my ID/SID using both Wild Eep's and Rommstar's guides to help me calibrate my delay for my HG retail cart.
The problem is, I always ended up with 2-3 seeds every time I calibrated, plus I don't know how to check the secret ID at this point of the game. So, is there any other way besides capturing a shiny pokemon (which is impossible) to help me verify my secret ID?

Knowing the SID doesn't matter. If you know you

a) landed on the right minute
b) The Seed Finder tells you there's a match for the ID you got on or near your target seconds AND
c) there are no other results near those seconds, then
d) the corresponding SID Pandora's Box tells you HAS to be your SID

All you can do at this point is use the data you got (your seeds) to adjust your timing accordingly

Hmm is the delay relevant in finding times for your spread? Calibrated, i got a 499 max and 489 min delay, and no luck finding decent spreads so far ><

I have been trying to RNG for a good Lugia on my Soul Silver for the better part of the day, and after scouring Smogon for information I cannot seem to solve this problem without some more help.

I am trying to catch this:
Lugia (Timid) 31/17/31/31/31/31
Seed: D40501EF
Frame 302

Both Raikou and Entei are still out in the wild, so that means my target frame should be 299 (Subtracting 3 due to Lugia and the two roamers). I save right in front of Lugia, then follow this procedure:

1) Take 30 steps from surfing in front of Lugia to the cavern's exit
2) Use a Max Repel and walk/turn in order to advance the RNG by 287
3) Go back in the cavern and walk the remaining 226 steps required to advance the RNG by 6 twice (considering 128 x2 = 256 and I have 6 party members), finishing my last step/turn facing Lugia.

Should this not add up to 299? I have done this exact procedure at least ten times and I get a different result every time. Can somebody please explain to me how to get the spread I want? What am I missing?

We are going to be revising the guide to instruct people to use timers to precisely achieve a certain delay (none of this "mash A and calibrate your delay" crap). In the meantime, I suggest learning how to use emloop and\or Pikatimer (there is an emloop guide on the first page, and I think Romsstar has a link in his sig for Pikatimer).

Taking steps + turning is inconsistent in HGSS, and should not be relied upon for frame advancement. Sorry if the second post hasn't been updated to reflect this, I don't know why I overlooked it for this long.

If walking is inconsistent, then what else can I use inside caves? I thought the pokegear gets no reception.

EDIT: Also, is time or target times, or anything of that sort relevant in HG/SS? If so, how can I get a target time for my desired frame? Using Method K with the RNG Reporter doesn't give me any sort of value for time.

Then what you do is trial and error. If you aimed for frame 299 and got frame 266, then you need to try adding 33 more steps. And you keep adding or subtracting steps until you finally nab that Lugia. A Synchronizer will be a huge help here, it will boost the number of frames for that Lugia, so you will be more likely to get the right one even if you're a few frames off.

I suggest looking for a seed that doesn't need so many steps to get that Lugia. Don't limit yourself to delays you get when you mash A at the start; use a timer to hit seeds with high delays.

You also have to be sure you hit your seed. Since you have Raikou and Entei out, you should use Romsstar's guide and program to use their starting positions to verify your seed.

EDIT: I just moved Romsstar's guide into the third post of this thread. Sorry for breaking the link in your sig!

Okay. Just a few more questions. How exactly do I determine the frame I actually hit, assuming I get the wrong Lugia? Where do I need to put the Lugia's stats in to figure it out?

How do delays factor in to the pokemon I capture? I thought that time was not a factor in RNGing in HG/SS. I still synchronized my DS anyways and got a delay range of 483-499, if that helps to answer my question.

Can you please explain the roamer method in a little more detail? I have read that article multipule times and I tried it and I could not get that method to work.

Thank you so much for all your help! I really, genuinely appreciate someone taking their time to answer all these basic questions for me.

Figure out the IVs, then look at the list of Method K spreads for your seed and compare them with the possibilities.[/quote]

Delay is the time between the time you turn on the game and the time you select "Continue". If you mash A as fast as you can (this so-called "calibrate your delay" thing), you will start HGSS approximately 13 seconds after the initial black screen, and gets you a delay of... approximately 483-499! You notice the 1EF part of your seed? That's equal to your target delay + DS calendar year, in hexadecimal.

We are looking to phase this "mash A and calibrate delays" thing out of the guides, it's too imprecise and being able to hit higher delays with a timer is so much less restrictive.

Can you please explain the roamer method in a little more detail? I have read that article multipule times and I tried it and I could not get that method to work.

This I'll leave to someone else.

Knowing the SID doesn't matter. If you know you

a) landed on the right minute Check; I started my emloop when the second hand hit the next minute and I shrinked almost-by almost, it's like +/- 0.09 sec-exactly at the next minute
b) The Seed Finder tells you there's a match for the ID you got on or near your target seconds When you say target seconds, is that the number of seconds shown in the last box when you generate possible seeds? AND
c) there are no other results near those seconds, then
d) the corresponding SID Pandora's Box tells you HAS to be your SID

All you can do at this point is use the data you got (your seeds) to adjust your timing accordingly

A few comment, and some info that would like you to clarify.
