After discovering competitive battling a few weeks ago, I decided to try creating my own team. It started off as 6 OU Pokémon randomly thrown in a team with no real purpose, but after many adjustements, it became much better and has destroyed a good amount of teams. I still think my team can be improved, so I have decided to post it here so the experts here can help me.
The purpose of this team is, like many offensive teams, to set up Stealth Rock, attack and tear apart the opponent.
Suggestions and constructive criticism are welcome.
Team At Glance:
In-Depht Analysis:
Alienware (Metagross) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/236 Atk/20 Spe
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Meteor Mash
The lead of my team. Its Lum Berry allows it to deal with stat-inducing leads and its general bulkyness makes almost sure I will get Stealth Rock up. Bullet Punch, Earthquake and Meteor Mash allow it to attack other leads. Azelf and Aerodactyl can be teared apart with Meteor Mash followed by Bullet Punch.
If it needs to switch (such as with Trick leads), it can come back later and serve as a sweeper, scoring suprise kills with Bullet Punch.
Armageddon (Heatran) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk/252 SpA/252 Spe
Naive (+Spd, -SpD)
- Dragon Pulse
- Earth Power
- Explosion
- Fire Blast
The main revenge killer. Naive nature and Choice Scarf allow it to outspeed many Pokémons and attack back with one of its powerful attacks. Dragon Pulse is useful for revenge killing Dragons. Fire Blast can revenge kill many Pokémons and can even be spammed against unprepared teams.
Earth Power allow to counter Fire-types, especially opposing Heatrans. Finally, Explosion grants Heatran the ability to suicide kill and destroy Blissey, which is particulary useful against the deadly SkarmBliss combo.
Terminator (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 168 HP/176 Atk/160 SpD/4 Spe
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- U-Turn
The classic Choice Band set. It can act as a revenge killer, a scout and a trapper. Its EV spread allows it to sponge special attacks and be able to hit back. With Pursuit, it can counters Latias and trap it, which, otherwise, would hit my team pretty hard. Bullet Punch is very powerful and allows to pick off weakened sweepers, as well as scoring surprise kills.
U-Turn can hit pretty hard thanks to STAB and grants the ability to scout and bring up counters. Finally, Superpower allows to destroy common switch-ins, such as Magnezone or Heatran. It is also the best option against opposing Scizors.
Toastery (Rotom-H) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/160 Def/96 Spe
Bold (+Def, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Will-O-Wisp
My Rapid Spin blocker. Its bulkyness allows it to wall many Pokémon and counter-attack with powerful moves. Will-O-Wisp is particulary useful against physical sweepers, since their Attack is reduced by the burn.
Overheat allows to fry Skarmory which older versions of my team used to lack defense against. Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball are powerful and get STABed. They also allow some type coverage.
Alebrije (Flygon) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Outrage
- U-Turn
My secondary revenge killer. U-Turn allows it to scout and make prediction easier. Its Choice Scarf allows it to outspeed many other Pokémons. Earthquake and Stone Edge hit many Pokémons very hard, not to mention Earthquake is STABed.
Outrage is a very risky trump card, but can destroy an entire unprepared team.
Paradox (Breloom) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 48 HP/252 Atk/208 Spe
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Focus Punch
- Seed Bomb
- Spore
- Substitute
Man, I love this one! Poison Heal and Toxic Orb make a perfect combo, granting it an incredible recovery. It can render one of the opponent's Pokémon useless with Spore, and then attack the monstrously powerful STABed Focus Punch.
Seeb Bomb is also STABed and allows it to attack unprotected, not to mention it hits Ground and Water-types very hard. Substitute grants extra protection and allows to use Focus Punch even if the other Pokémon is awake or uses Sleep Talk.
Conclusion:
To conclude, here is a final look at my team:
This team has been going pretty good lately, but also has suffered defeats.
And remember, criticism and suggestions are welcome!
Change Log:
- Moved the Defense EVs on Metagross to Speed and changed Explosion to Meteor Mash.
-Moved 8 Defense EVs to Speed on Rotom-H.
- Changed Stone Edge to Substitute on Breloom.
- Changed Swords Dance Scizor to a Choice Band Scizor set.
- Changed the Occa Berry on Metagross to a Lum Berry.
- Changed Scizor's EV spread.
- Changed Flygon's Jolly nature to an Adamant nature.
The purpose of this team is, like many offensive teams, to set up Stealth Rock, attack and tear apart the opponent.
Suggestions and constructive criticism are welcome.
