Creationist's RMT: OU

This is my first competitive team on Smogon and Shoddy. I started with the thought of a Dragonite. I wanted to try it out as a lead since I’ve heard good things about it. I decided to use this set:

Dragonite @ Life Orb
252 Atk, 252 SpA, 4 Spe
Quiet
-Draco Meteor
-Fire Blast
-Extremespeed
-Earthquake
Draco Meteor OHKOs almost any lead in the game. EQ and Fire Blast are used for steels and specially based leads. Extremespeed allows this set to shine, as it doesn’t really have to worry about Focus Sashes. With the combination of these moves, DDnite is guaranteed to take out at least one pokemon with a few exceptions like Swampert and Focus Sash Mamoswine.
Then I needed a Stealth Rocker. Swampert is very skilled at setting up rocks and shutting down the offense. So I went with this set.

Swampert @ Leftovers
252 HP/4 Atk/252 Def
Relaxed
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
-Roar
Stealth Rock on the first turn. Then depending on the pokemon, either attack or roar it out. This also adds support against steel-trapping Magnezone as it absorbs Thunderbolt, is resistant to HP fire, and can roar any substitutes out.
As Swampert is an important part of the team, I needed a way to protect him. I chose a steel, Jirachi, as it resists Stealth Rock and Grass, Swampert’s only weakness.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
240 HP/160 Def/76 SpD/32 Spe
Impish
-Wish
-U turn
-Thunder Wave
-Iron Head
It takes most hits Swampert cannot, and hits the grass types back for super effective damage. Thunder Wave further helps to cripple choice scarves. 5/6 of my pokemon cannot recover outside of leftovers, so I also needed some wish support. Jirachi adds this to the team. Wish also works well since the 4 of the 5 pokemon needing wish support are resistant to stealth rock.
Then, I needed a good counter to Mixape and Heatran, and Latias provides good resistance to both.

Latias @ Life Orb
4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Timid
-Draco Meteor
-Surf
-Thunderbolt
-Recover

Latias easily counters all forms of Mixape and Heatran. Given the fact that these 2 pokemon troubled me the most, I decided to switch Azelf out for Latias. Also, Surf and Thunderbolt have good coverage.
One of the most annoying pokemon (and one of the most used) is Scizor. I hate Scizor with a passion, so I usually dedicate a spot in teams to a steel-trapper
467.png

Magnezone @ Leftovers
40 Atk/252 SpA/216 Spe
Naive
-Substitute
-Hidden Power Fire
-Thunderbolt
-Explosion
Magnezone comes in on most steel types and wrecks everything steel with thunderbolt and HP Fire. When it is low on health, it goes out with a boom.
Stealth Rock is an important part of this team. Because of this, I needed a Spin-blocker to help me out. Rotom-A is a very good option.

Rotom-H@ Choice Scarf
200 HP/56 SpA/252 Spe
Timid
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow ball
-Overheat
-Trick
I chose the Heat Rotom for Overheat’s coverage along with Thunderbolt and Shadow ball. Trick takes out things that wall me. Scarf allows me to outspeed things that would normally outspeed me.

Overall Team thoughts: This is a bulky, offensive team that initially punches holes in leads and any switch-ins. Mid-game centers around eliminating steels and using roar to build up Stealth Rock damage or spin-blocking with Rotom. Late-game is focused around setting up a sweep with either Magnezone if it’s alive or Latias.

Possible Changes: Switch Heat Rotom out for Grass Rotom. This allows for more coverage, as I already have a counter for steels. Also, Togekiss can be switched out for a mix-sweeper because the team is more specially based. Tyranitar could also be used as most of the team is sand-friendly, and Sandstorm would add even more passive damage.

Whats your opinion?

Edits in Bold
Edit 1: Changed Magnezone to Choice Scarf. Changed Togekiss to Life Orb Azelf.
Edit 2: Changed LO Azelf to LO Latias. Switched Magnezone back to Substitute set. Gave Jirachi Iron Head. Changed Toastom to Scarfed Set.

bump, as it was locked the entire time it was 1st page. Also, Ive noticed that this team is not adept at countering Ttar. How could I go about solving this?

Well, as of now, you are EXTREMELY MixApe weak. Everything on your team is out sped, and KO'd, or 2hkod. Also, you're Lucario Weak, so I would suggest a scarf Magnezone over your current set, with a set of:

Magnezone@Choice Scarf
252 SpA/252 Spd/4 Atk
Naive
-Thunderbolt
-Flash Cannon
-HP (Fire)
-Explosion

It helps out with your MixApe weakness, and it also revenges Starmie, Suicune, and many other threats that hurt your team. Im about to go to bed, so sorry for lack of full rate, but ya, thats it.

Hi. Try not to doublepost when you're not making any substantial change ;) Edit the OP or your last post instead.

On with the team, it looks like you're missing some things, not covering the major part of common threats in OU, and some other details. To begin with, Azelf is not the best Pokémon you can introduce in order to counter and keep Infernape aside, since he can see himself severely damaged by any of Infernape Fire-type moves. Instead, you need a Pokémon able to handle both of Infernape STAB, and with a reliable way to get rid of it obviously. Also, considering (as you yourself have said) that Heatran poses a big concern to the team as well, the addition of some way/s to dispatch both of them is needed. Latias is a Pokémon known for being Infernape's worse nightmare and a solid switch in to any of Heatran variants, and considering the offensive path you're trying to follow, this is the set of Latias I recommend you to use:

380.png

Timid nature.
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spd
Draco Meteor | Thunderbolt | Surf | Recover

This set is used with Life Orb as the item. By using Life Orb Latias reaches an incredible special attack power, that allows her to OHKO and 2HKO a good amount of Pokémon in OU. As for Infernape and Heatran, the former can't stand against Latias while the latter is OHKOed after two entries on Stealth Rock (4 HP / 0 SpD Heatran). Additionally, unlike Azelf, Latias can handle Dragon-, and bulky Water-types without having to explode -- an excellent option, and overall, Latias offers this team some good opportunities that shouldn't go unnoticed.

On the other hand, Swords Dance Lucario looks like a problematic Pokemon to face. Changing Rotom to the Choice Scarf variant would be the most recommendable. By using Choice Scarf Rotom will still be able to counter the likes of DD Gyarados and SD Scizor, besides having now the opportunity to manage Lucario as well. I suggest using the following EVs: 200 HP / 56 SpA / 252 Spd with a Timid nature, and the moves Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball / Overheat / Trick. The reason why I chose this spread instead of the full offensive one is mainly for complementing Rotom's overall bulkyness, being able therefore to get hits from the likes of Gyarados, Metagross and Scizor better. The loosing of power isn't precisely important, since Rotom will still be able to OHKO most of the Pokemon he needs to counter (see the aforementioned Lucario, Scizor, Gyarados...). Additionally, Trick allows Rotom to shut down important walls such as Blissey and Snorlax, while also preventing set up users from using their respective movements -- CM Suicune and CM Latias are a good example of this.

Right now the team relies on special attacks to get its maximum, and that is not good. Therefore, special walls such as Blissey could be a major problem. In order to fix this somewhat, I recommend you to remove the Scarf on Magnezone and use a Substitute or Life Orb variant with Explosion. By doing so you'll have another way to eliminate Blissey. Another thing you could do is simply remove Magnezone and use Scizor in its place, preferably a Choice Band set. Adding CB Scizor means having another revenge killer, specifically for the likes of DD Salamence and Latias, while also contributing to the team with its strong physical attacks.

Last but not least, I suggest using Iron Head instead of Ice Punch on Jirachi, in order to complement more the para-flinch combination.

Good luck.

Thank you for the advice. I agree with you on pretty much all of your points, and have edited my team with it.
