Hrm... well i need a 'Mence counter/ check, and i was told Mamoswine was good for that

Mamoswine can check Salamence because it easily OHKO's it with CB Ice Shard. There is no real counter for Salamence since Swampert is one of the few things that can take a +1 Outrage and Earthquake but it can't take a Draco Meteor. I've found that Bronzong works pretty well against any Salamence, but it usually has to Explode to take it out. I've considered trying a Bronzong with Trick and Lagging Tail to cripple it and then send in something on the predicted Fire Blast and KO it that way, but Shoddy doesn't have Lagging Tail.

Basically, anything with 100 or more Base Speed, holding a Choice Scarf and having either an Ice move or a STAB Dragon move can check Salamence. Also, be sure to put SR up so it can't switch in as often.

So is there a beginner guide anywhere? Thinking of starting up pokemon again. any guides for battling? as in like terms. like what does NU/UU or standard mean?

Also, how do people get all the different types of pokemon throughout different generations? and last question, what game do people use? does everyone have the same game? like the new silver and gold, pearl, diamond and etc.??

May be a stupid question, but is it possible to get Rotom-H on Heart Gold? Especially on WiFi? Someone told me it was only available on Platinum =/

If you go to the out-of-order lift at Silph with a Rotom leading your party it'll activate the lift taking you to a room that's an exact replica of the one in Platinum so you can change its forms there. Still no wi-fi forms though.

You could also use Iron Ball.

Iron Ball/Macho Brace didn't slow +1 Salamence down enough for my Swampert to outspeed it and Lagging Tail makes you always go last. They do allow you to hit things much harder with Gyro Ball, but I find that I use Earthquake more often when I'm using Bronzong.

When breeding, Should I just focus more on the nature, ability I want? Ofcourse IV's, but should I RELEASE the nature and abilities I don't like? Or should I use some of them since they have almost perfect IV's to breed with flawless Ditto to make a better IV, but different nature? I'm just tryna clean it up and I don't know what breeders normally do.

What I do is I make sure to breed a parent with as many perfect IVs as possible and breed that with a ditto. Then I focus on nature and release any nature I would never use. (ones that lower the main attacking/defensive stats)

Say you have an Adamant flawless Ditto and are trying to breed an Adamant Metagross. You put Metagross and Ditto (holding the Everstone) into the Daycare and get a few Eggs. The Adamant ones have terrible IV's, but you have a non Adamant one with 31 Atk and Spe. Use that Beldum with your Ditto to have a better chance of getting a good Metagross. Obviously, you want to try and get the Nature above all else, but if you end up with something like a Jolly or Impish Beldum it could still be useful.

When I breed, I usually instantly release all of the Pokemon that don't have a good nature and their characteristic doesn't allow them to have any 31s, as well as any females that don't have a useful Nature.

sweet, pretty good idea. How long does it take for you to breed that flawless pokemon? or close to would suffice for me!!!

I'm not exactly clear on how stat gains are determined for EVs. I know that for every 4 pts in a given EV it adds 1 to that stat over the course of leveling, but how does it work if I switch up my EVs in later levels?

As an example, I have a 252 X/252 Y/6 Z spread from ?-98 and at 98, I suddenly decide to do 252 A/252 B/6 C to 99 and then 252 C/252 Z/6 X to 100. I'm assuming this won't work only because it's too easy, but I'm not certain.

It takes a bit of time. Finding a good parent is the easy part, you just want to make sure it has ~3 perfect stats. I focus more on perfect IVs than nature, so I tend to give the parents the appropriate power items to ensure at least two IVs are perfect. At that point, I just breed till I find a nature. Surprisingly, for my metagross (which is perfect, adamant and legitimately bread) it was one of the first 10 eggs I hatched. However, to get an adamant ralts that was perfect enough took me almost 3 boxes.

EVs are readjusted when the pokemon enters or leaves a PC box, I believe. At level 100, 4 evs = 1 stat, but at level 50, 8 evs= 1 stat. It's a pretty complex formula overall. However, you shouldn't have any problem retraining your pokemon.

Does Struggle hit Shedinja?

I was considering putting a team together which uses a trick/grudge setup then swaps in a shedinja to swords dance, then baton pass.

interesting. Where do I find these power items you speak of?

Wonderguard does not keep struggle from hitting... :)

The power items are found as battle tower prizes. They increase the EV gain of a certain stat. Whichever stat it increases is the definite stat IV that the parent hands down while holding it. I.E. a power lens raises SP atk EVs so it would make the parent definitely hand down its Sp Atk IV.

Hey there's a local Pokemon tourney that is played through wireless not wifi. So basically, there is no sleep clause, freeze clause, species clause etc. Everyone knows what they are doing so we decided to ban Ubers such as Mewtwo and others.

I already have a few predictions of what the other teams will be. Since there is no sleep clause, Breloom/Parasect/Butterfree/Smeargle and all other sleep inducing users will be a huge threat. Also, everyone likes to use Baton Pass and FEAR users so they are threats as well.

Knowing this, how can I combat these threats easily and what strategies should I use?

To combat sleep, taunt is always good... you can have a weavile use taunt and it can outspeed any of those easily. To combat FEAR, high priority moves work.. if you quick attack them before they quick attack you, they made a mistake... I always make sure to have a priority move and a taunt on all my teams, it saves lives. :)

Also, sleep isn't horribly common, even while sleep clause isn't in effect. Most sleep users are relatively slow and can be shut down fairly easy. Seriously, look at your list and how many of them can be one-shot easily? All of them with the right move, really... again, taunt also works wonders... :)

The main problem is the FEAR users will be Clefables used in Hail. They will Endeavor and then I die when the turn ends from hail. Besides ghost types, how can I counter this? Also Baton Pass teams are annoying. They will always carry Taunt to stop my attempts to phaze and taunt back.

Another: Is it possible that the IVs of a child pokemon will sometimes not match with the power items held by its parents? Several of the Piplups I had been breeding did not have their highest stat marked as either Atk or Sp. def.

Also, if the EVs are adjusted when the pokemon moves between pc boxes, how would this work if it never leaves my party?

Priority moves are the only thing I can suggest, really. Even if clefable does end up killing one, it's not very fast and the chances of it killing another isn't likely even if it does switch out and back in. Or you could do an ice pokemon. I know sandstorm is equally as likely, but ice has a stabbed priority move.

See, I've seen this happen as well. However, It's far more common for them to have the perfect stat than for them not to. I think if anything, it may be 75-90% rate. I'm not sure, though... I can't find it anywhere, but I have seen it happen rarely.

Trying to find wild double battles to give my smeargle stealth rock / Spikes/ taunt / spore

however I can't find any in heart gold. I know I've battled a few already. Help?

Any body have some advice regarding apricorn shakes? I'm trying to increase my pokemon's power stat. Should I just use red apricrons? or red and black ones? How can I get the most out of them?
