Ok, so I won a Shaymin in the Earth Day giveaway, and wanted to make a team that centered around an offensive Shaymin. Here goes!
Preview:
Rationale
Shaymin: Started out with her as my teams core to build around. A nice Life Orb Shaymin.
Salamence: I needed something to counteract the weaknesses Shaymin has, particularly Fire, and still be able to sweep. Salamence provides a decent of amount of elemental resistances and bulk, as well as Intimidate, so I picked him. I still have a horrible weakness to Ice now though.
Metagross: To put a shut-down on the whole 'lethal weakness to Ice' thing, I picked Metagross to be another sweeper and again provide bulk and coverage to a wide variety of types, including being able to bust down Toxic walls.
Infernape: A physical based Infernape meant to sweep as well as scout if needed. A good late-game sweeper and wall breaker if my other two physical sweepers are dead.
Heatran: Choice-Scarfed Heatran revenge killer and helps out some more on covering Fire damage dealt to my team.
Swampert: The mighty Leadpert returns!
In-Depth Team Layout:
Shaymin@Life Orb
Timid
252 SpA, 224 Spd, 32 HP
Seed Flare
Hidden Power: Fire
Earth Power
Air Slash
This set gives me great coverage and sweeping power once the field has been cleared of hazards. The 32 in HP gives me 11 uses of Life Orb instead of 10, and 320 speed outspeeds a good chunk of most pokemon. Abusing Seed Flare should encourage switches, and with Stealth Rock on the field from Swampert, should grab me some KOs.
Salamence@Life Orb
232 Atk, 24 SpA, 252 Spd
Naive
Dragon Dance
Earthquake
Flamethrower
This set gives me a powerful STAB and the excellent coverage that Fire, Ground and Dragon provide. The strategy here is switch in on something Swampert doesn't like at the start of the fight, get in a Dragon Dance, and wreck havoc. Flamethrower is there for accuracy over Fire Blast and to take care of something like a levitating Steel switch-in.
Metagross@Leftovers
Adamant
112 HP, 252 Atk, 12 Def, 132 Spd
Agility
Meteor Mash
Earthquake/ThunderPunch
Ice Punch
This is a fairly bulky Metagross with Leftovers recovery to ensure he will stick around for quite some time. The plan with him is to switch in on something, get an Agility on the switch, and then sweep. Meteor Mash for STAB and Ice for anti-Dragon, but I am unsure whether I want Earthquake for Fire/Steels that could wall me when I have Heatran or pick up Thunder Punch for coverage of things like Gyrados, who could otherwise wreck my team if it gets the chance to set up.
Infernape@Life Orb
4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd
Jolly
U-Turn
Fire Punch
Close Combat
Swords Dance
Again, same as my other other sweepers, get in a Swords Dance and rip things apart. I went for a pure physical Infernape to get some scouting coverage and get the most benefit from Swords Dance. U-Turn allows me to swap out of something that commonly switches into Infernape, like Starmie and Latias, for enough damage to put a serious dent in their hp pools.
Heatran@Choice Scarf
Mild (I know, I know, should be Timid, but I don't have a Timid Heatran or a trade thread to get one)
4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spd
Flamethrower
Earth Power
Hidden Power Grass
Dragon Pulse
My revenge killer, with a moveset with insane coverage. I lose about 40 speed because I don't have the proper nature, but it would be worse. I opted for Dragon Pulse over Explosion for those pesky Dragons who would otherwise wall me, and I have plenty of other physical sweepers to take care of walls like Blissey.
Swampert@Leftovers
Impish
252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Atk
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Avalanche
Waterfall/Roar
My lead. The EVs ensure he will stick around and possibly be a valuable player post Stealth Rocks. I am unsure over Waterfall for coverage or Roar for phazing.
WEAKNESSES:
GROUND TYPES: Earthquake wrecks my day with Salamence gone to absorb it.
Dragon Dance Gyrados: Because he has Earthquake and is popular, he will REALLY wreck my day.
