Coming out of retirement: UU RMT

Hi everyone! I want to start by saying thank you for coming to view my team and possibly advise me in its construction. I haven't played competitively since a few months before Platinum was released and I've been wanting to get back into it.

The UU tier has always been my favorite. There is much more creativity and diversity which provides (in my opinion) a much richer and enjoyable experience. So lets get started...

Changes in bold

Omastar @ Leftovers
Ability: Swift Swim
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpDef / 80 Spd
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Surf
- Knock Off / Protect

Omastar leads off with the important entry hazards to help ease my sweep later on in the game. Surf for a reliable STAB attack when I need to deal damage. Knock Off rids my opponent of (sometimes) incredibly important items while Protect allows me to scout Choice users and stop the enemy from locking me into a single attack via Trick. Although that may not always be a bad thing as a Choice Scarf will make it easier to get up more layers of Spikes later on.

Moltres @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SpDef
- Fire Blast
- Air Slash
- Hidden Power (Grass)
- Roost

This legendary bird has always been my favorite of the trio and is the main sweeper of this team. Every member on my team was specifically placed to help ease it's sweep. The funny thing is that I came up with this set on my own before I saw it on the analysis here on smogon.

Fire Blast and Air Slash for dual STAB attacks the deal insane amounts of damage to just about everything in the tier. HP grass compliments these moves perfectly and allow me to destroy water and rock types. Roost lets me stick around and continue my sweep by healing life orb recoil and any attacks I may have taken.

Hitmontop @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
- Rapid Spin
- Foresight
- Close Combat
- Sucker Punch

Obviously I will need spin support with a poke that's 4x weak to Rock. Hitmontop has the advantage over other Spinners with its ability to spin away rocks in the face of ghosts via Foresight. (Wouldn't it be great if we had a spinner with scrappy?) Anywho, Close Combat for a powerful STAB while Sucker Punch gets both priority and coverage.

Spiritomb @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Adamant
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpDef
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch / Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak
- Trick

Tomb replaces Drapion because of its ability to block Rapid Spin and still effectively wear down threats with Pursuit. Sucker Punch and Shadow Sneak for STAB priority moves that allow me to revenge kill many fast/frail psychics and ghosts. (missy, espeon, zam, ect) Trick is a handy move that can be used to cripple my opponent. The EVs are pretty straightforward; more power and bulk. Thanks goes to Heist and IronBullet93 for suggesting this set.

Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
Nature: Bold
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spd
- Surf
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Haze

Milotic found its way onto this team due to its ability to take repeated hits and recover off the damage while threatening enemies with a decent SpAtk stat. It can safely switch into many attacks aimed at Venasaur or Moltres and Recover off the damage.

Surf for STAB-nuff said. Ice Beam over Hidden Power Grass because I've got both Venasaur and Moltres using grass to take down bulky water types. It won't be difficult to bluff that I have it either. I can come in on a Slowbro or something, Haze away its hard earned stat boosts while pretending I can damage it in some way.

Venasaur @ Black Sludge
Ability: Overgrow
Nature: Sassy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpDef / 4 Def
- Sleep Powder
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Sludge Bomb

Venasaur sports resistances to many types of attacks; allowing it to come in on a predicted attack aimed for another poke and annoy the heck out of my opponent with Sleep and Recovery. I went with Leech Seed over Synthesis to possibly aid another member of my team. Power Whip and Sludge Bomb for dual STAB attacks that help take down a variety of opponents. Black Sludge over Lefties to discourage Trick.

Well there you have it! I'm open for changes on their sets and possibly replacing a poke or two. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

The first thing that comes to mind is that you lack a Spin Blocker. Spin Blockers are essential on a team such as yours which depends heavily on hazards to wear down the opponent. So, and you have stated this as well, I'd recommend replacing Drapion with a Spiritomb, who not only allows you to trap Missy and Zam, but provides you with a reliable revenge-killer, which your team lacks:

Spiritomb@Choice Band
252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Sp Def
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch
- Shadow Sneak/ Return
- Trick

Just a nitpick here, I think you mean 252 Defense EVs on Milotic, not 252 Sp Def. On Venusaur, I'd suggest trying out Power Whip over Energy Ball. It hits Pokemon like Milotic, Chansey and Mismagius much harder with its enormous base power. If you decide to use it, switch to a Sassy nature.

This is a nice team, well done and gl.

Venusaur Analysis said:
Combine this with its nifty resistances to Electric-, Water-, and, Fighting-type moves, and Venusaur makes a very durable wall.

Venusaur Analysis said:
Sleep Powder is an excellent support move to place an opponent to sleep. This allows Venusaur to subsequently use Leech Seed to annoy the opponent or use a free turn to switch in something appropriate.

I see something :>

Other than that, I agree. Since your Omastar carries Stealth Rock and Spikes, you badly need a spinner or else your efforts of setting up three layers of Spikes and Stealth Rock would go to waste.

Thank you'll try that set out. I was testing something different but that looks much more promising.

Yes I did mean defense and not special defense.. And I forgot about Venasaur getting power Whip. As I said I haven't played competitively since before platinum and I sometimes forget about these new move tutor moves. I'll change that as well.

This is a nice team, well done and gl.
thanks :)

I see something :>

Honestly i'm very bad at writing up RMTs so I tend to use the words of others when I don't really know what to say in my descriptions. =/

I'm going to go with the spiritomb set Iron Bullet suggested and see if that works.

Thank you guys for your comments and suggestions.

I would too suggest the CB Spiritomb set, however, change the moves to Shadow Sneak/Pursuit/Trick/Will-O-Wisp (Sucker Punch sucks on a Choiced Pokemon, no pun intended).

Any particular reason you believe it sucks? I'll definitely consider it over Sucker Punch if you really believe I will benefit from it.
