Nuzlocke Challenge

And we are back! Is it the sign of the apocalypse that I have update twice in a week?

Anyway for those who can't remember here's what I'm starting with:
Saur the Ivysaur
Funky the Primeape
Butterkill the Butterfree
PinCushion the Beedrill
Aquila the Pidgeotto
Gardie the Growlithe

In Box:
Purrfect the Meowth
Macho the Machop
Eve the Eevee

Deceased:
R.I.P Solid the Ekans
R.I.P Diggit the Diglett
R.I.P Ze Bat the Zubat

Now it's time to take on Team Rocket!
But first I need to give some tea to the Guardsmen. It's amazing how quickly tea gets passed around.

So I went into the "Game Corner" *cough* Casino *cough* and met a Rocket Grunt who had the best job in the world. Guarding a Poster. They are worried about someone coming in a taking a poster.
Anyway I put him out of his misery, well Funky and Butterkill did.

I had a few close calls against a few of the Grunts. Those Raticates are deadly...

Anyway after the trials and tribulation, we finally come face to face with Geovanii. He was sitting in his large leather suite, at the heart of the Team Rocket Facility!
He was wearing his suit of Death today. He started out by sending out a level 25 Onix. I sent out my level 23 Pincushion but was forced to switch immediately into my level 29 Saur.
Saur managed to OHKO it. Giovanni next sent out his Ryhorn, which was taken down in a similar fashion. He next sent out his level 29 Kangaskan. I countered by switching to my Level 29 Funky.
Kangaskan started out with an annoying Fake Out, causing Funky to flinch. Funky was taken down to 3HP by a nasty Mega Punch but managed to retaliate with it own Mega Punch, knocking Kangaskan out.
Yes, I was Victorious. I was kind of expecting a more epic showdown...

Geovanii legged it and I received the Silph Scope! ~Do-Da-Do~

Now on to the Haunted Tower!!

We went up to the top floor and saw what the demonic spirit truly was. A Female Marowack. Saur managed to take it out easily. How can leaves affect a ghost anyway?

BUT wait there's more! Up the stair there’s... GRUNTS!! ROCKET GRUNTS!! Ahhhhhhh... I thought I was done with the grunts for today...

After all that Mr Fuji congratulated us and gave us a gift.

YES, we got the PokeFlute ~DO-DA-DO~!

I decided to teach Aquila "Fly"... well it seemed a good idea at the time!

Now it's time to go and wake up a sleepy head.

I played the "Song of Awakening" (Another Zelda Reference) and woke up the Snorlax.

"Holy Butt Kicking Batman!" that Snorlax can pack a punch. I managed to catch it though! Lax the Snorlax (Level 30) (Male) joined our Fellowship.

After the long bicycle routes, I made it to Fuchsia City. I went to the Fishing Guru's Brother and received the Good Rod.

I then decided to do the task in the Safari Zone.

I caught a Nidoran called PoisonKing. No Useful Pokemon for me...

After Two tries, I managed to get the HM03 and HM04. Now it’s time to take on a Gym

My Team:
Saur the Ivysaur
Funky the Primeape
Butterkill the Butterfree
PinCushion the Beedrill
Aquila the Pidgeotto
Gardie the Growlithe

In Box:
Purrfect the Meowth
Macho the Machop
Eve the Eevee
Lax the Snorlax
PoisonKing the Nidoran

Deceased:
R.I.P Solid the Ekans
R.I.P Diggit the Diglett
R.I.P Ze Bat the Zubat

I just realised how hopelessly under-leveled my pokemon are. I decided to devise a cunning plan. I will go and take on Saffron City first and do that quest first. Therefore my pokemon will be able to be strong enough to take on the 5th Gym.

Mission 1: Liberate Silph Co.
Mission 2: Fighting Dojo
Mission 3: Saffron Gym

After defeating a Mad Scientist, Saur evolved! Now with Venusaur at my side, no-one can stop me now...except ice and psychic... and flying pokemon.

People, I've reached my Rival but I need help. Right now, my team is hilariously weak against Flying type moves and I'm not sure how to sort out this problem.

I could teach Lax Shockwave or teach Funky Thunderbolt, but I don't know what else to do. I could try and train up Eevee and evolve it into a Jolteon but I don't know if that'll be enough!

So your advice people would be most appreciated.

Yeah, so until next time on Pokemon FireRed.

Lapras learns Surf, Ice Beam, and Body Slam without TMs, and it can also learn Shockwave/Thunderbolt and Psychic. Or you could visit the Power Plant where hopefully you'll find a Pikachu or Electabuzz, which can learn Thunderbolt via level-up (or else it's Spark or the slots) and have wider movepools in general.
You could also go back to one of the caves where a guy can teach your Primeape (or Nidoking) Rock Slide.
If you're willing to grind a bit and buy and use some TMs, Nidoking has a huge movepool you could take advantage of. On the physical side it gets STAB EQ/Dig and Sludge Bomb, Brick Break, Megahorn, Shadow Ball, Double Kick, and Return/Secret Power/Thrash/Strength, and on the special side it gets Ice Beam, Flamethrower/Fire Blast, Thunderbolt/Shockwave, and Surf.

Lapras is after the rival battle and I can't Surf to the powerplant yet. But you given me a plan. My Pokemon used to be under-levelled for Koga but now, we may have a fighting chance.

You may need to just evolve Eevee into Jolteon for the easiest way out. Also I do think that snorlax is better on your team than either Butterfree or Beedrill since you cut dwon on the flying weaknesses then. Also if your Snorlax has Thick Fat then Charazard should be less of a problem.

Yeah, I think I'm going to deposit PinCushion for the battle. I was planning on using him to take out that Alakazam but I think Gardie with her Bite can take it on.

I'm planning on taking out Koga, so I can surf to the Powerplant and pick up an electric type pokemon.

What ability does Gardie have? If it's Intimidate it could probably take on Pidgeot with a bit of levelling, and probably Charizard. If it's Flash Fire, at the least you can switch it in on Flamethrowers.

And we are back... again. Last time, I had a mental breakdown, but this time I'm ok! I have plan! We scrap my original plan and go back to Fuchsia City and take on the Gym.

Previously my team was too underleveled to do anything, but now we are looking good!

Here is said, underleveled team:
Saur the Venusaur
Funky the Primeape
Butterkill the Butterfree
PinCushion the Beedrill
Aquila the Pidgeotto
Gardie the Growlithe

In Box:
Purrfect the Meowth
Macho the Machop
Eve the Eevee
Lax the Snorlax
PoisonKing the Nidoran

Deceased:
R.I.P Solid the Ekans
R.I.P Diggit the Diglett
R.I.P Ze Bat the Zubat

Why does a Poison-Type Gym have so many Psychic-Type pokemon?

In the battle versus Koga, he started with his Koffing and started with Saur. Saur managed to take it out by putting it to sleep and then spamming Razor Leaf.
Koga next sent out his incredibly annoying Muk. Believe me; That Muk is incredibly annoying if you don't take out it asap. I had Butterkill, who put it to sleep and then used Psybeam to take it out.
His next pokemon was his other Koffing. I admit Funky didn't fare to well in this Gym, but she managed to take this out.
Koga's final pokemon, is his Weezing. To counter Weezing, I sent out Saur. Using Saur's Sleep Powder, We managed to keep it asleep while Saur used non-stop Razor Leaves (Seems my strategy in general doesn’t it?).
Another Gym down. Now if you don't mind, I'm going fishing!

In my fishing adventure, I caught a Horsea (Level 8) (Male) called Torpedo. It probably won't be a used pokemon in my team but I will be using it for surfing purposes.

After Surfing to ze Power Plant, I caught my first electric Pokemon of the game! Voltz the Pikachu (Level 26) (Male) joined our Fellowship!

After doing some grinding for Pikachu, I decided to evolve it into a Raichu. I don't really care about Thunder. I prefer Thunderbolt. Now, we are ready!

Here is my team:
Saur the Venusaur
Funky the Primeape
Butterkill the Butterfree
Aquila the Pidgeotto
Gardie the Growlithe
Voltz the Raichu

In Box:
Purrfect the Meowth
Macho the Machop
Eve the Eevee
Lax the Snorlax
PoisonKing the Nidoran
Torpedo the Horsea
PinCushion the Beedrill

Deceased:
R.I.P Solid the Ekans
R.I.P Diggit the Diglett
R.I.P Ze Bat the Zubat

HUZAH!!!!!! WE DID IT! THANK YOU!! Gather round while I tell you a tale!

It was dark and stormy night. My Rival and I were having a Pokemon Duel. He started with his powerful looking Pidgeot (Level 37). I started with my humble Butterkill (Level 34). I decided to keep it simple and use my usual strategy. Sleep and Spam.
It did wake up and hit Butterkill down to 1/4 health, but Butterkill managed to put it back to sleep and K.O. it. Next he sent out his Charazard (Level 40). I sent out new boy Voltz (Level 32). Charazard started with Wing Attack, Knocking Voltz down to half HP.
I knew that Voltz would not survive another attack of any type. But Charazard got paralysed. Voltz managed to knock it down to half HP as well. Charazard was now slower than Voltz, and Voltz knocked it out, although still pretty injured.
Gary next sent out his Alakazam (Level 35). I countered with Gardie (Level 32). Gardie kept on biting, while Alakazam kept on using Future Sight. After Alakazam, Gary sent out Exeggcute (Level 38), to which I kept Gardie in.
But the Future Sight attack hit and I had to switch out Gardie. Saur (Level 35) came in and put it to sleep, but not before it had managed to use Stun Spore and Reflect. Saur then finished it off with a barrage of Razor Leaves.
Gary's final pokemon was of course his Gyarados (Level 35). It was Saur vs. Gyarados round two. Gyarados opened with a powerful Dragon Rage, but Saur managed to put it to sleep before having to pull out.
I next sent in Aquila (Level 35). It managed to hit it with a fly (Which barely made a dent) and got blasted with a Dragon Rage for it's trouble (By a newly wakened and angry Gyarados.) Down to only 34HP, I had to switch him out but to who?
All my other pokemon were too weak. Apart from one. Yeah it was time for Funky to make an appearance. Funky took a Twister and two Dragon Rages in her stride. She was knocked down to 7HP but still managed to defeat Gyarados with a powerful Mega Punch!
We had done it!!! Gary had been defeated... but I had to run off to intensive care!

After the battle, Nessy the Lapras joined our Team. She'll be used for surfing and Ice attacks. For the battle against Giovanni, I decided to bring Nessy and deposit Voltz.

The Giovanni was easier than the rival fight. He started with Nidorino and I sent out Butterkill. Butterkill managed to defeat it but was at about half HP. Next was Ryhorn, which was OHKO by a Surf from Nessy.
Next Nidoqueen came out and I countered with Saur. Saur got paralysed and beaten down by Body Slam. Venusaur defeat Nidoqueen with 4HP. Funky easily beat his Kangaskhan with a couple of Cross Chops.

I received the Masterball! ~Do-Da-Do~

Now it's time to take on the Fighting Dojo.

At the end, Aquila evolved into Pidgeot and I received Legs the Hitmonlee.

Now it was time for the battle with Sabrina.

My Team:
Saur the Venusaur
Funky the Primeape
Nessy the Lapras
Aquila the Pidgeotto
Gardie the Growlithe
PinCushion the Beedrill

In Box:
Purrfect the Meowth
Macho the Machop
Eve the Eevee
Lax the Snorlax
PoisonKing the Nidoran
Torpedo the Horsea
Legs the Hitmonlee
Butterkill the Butterfree
Voltz the Raichu

Deceased:
R.I.P Solid the Ekans
R.I.P Diggit the Diglett
R.I.P Ze Bat the Zubat

The battle started out with Sabrina sending out her Kadabra and I sent out the poison-type Saur! Saur put Kadabra to sleep and I switched to Gardie. Gardie managed to take it down with a couple of well placed bites.
Next came out Mr. Mime. I sent out Aquila. Aquila managed to Fly and dodge Mr. Mime's attacks but got hit by a Future Sight attack. Mr. Mime was down in the red, so I used quick attack but Sabrina healed it. Another Fly took it out.
Next was her Venomoth. I kept in Aquila, who managed to K.O. the Venomoth but only had 20HP left. Her final pokemon was her Alakazam. I sent out Saur. He put it to sleep on the first turn, but got knocked down to 9HP with a Psychic attack. The next turn, Sabrina used a Full Heal but I was prepared and used Sleep Powder again.
I then sent out Gardie, who got in another bite, but the Alakazam got up very quickly and used Psychic. Gardie didn't stand a chance... I sent out Aquila to finish it off.
I got the Marsh Badge, but lost a friend. She was too under levelled. If she could of got to level 49, then she could learn Flamethrower and I would have evolved her! Can we please have a moment of silence for Gardie.
It was her sacrifice that allowed us to claim the Marsh Badge. R.I.P - Gardie the Growlithe (Female) Levels 17 - 37

It was a day of terror for me. I had so many problems and I lost a member of my team. Hopefully, the next part of my journey will be a lot easier.

At the end of this session, here is my current team:
Saur the Venusaur
Funky the Primeape
Nessy the Lapras
Aquila the Pidgeotto
PinCushion the Beedrill

In Box:
Purrfect the Meowth
Macho the Machop
Eve the Eevee
Lax the Snorlax
PoisonKing the Nidoran
Torpedo the Horsea
Legs the Hitmonlee
Butterkill the Butterfree
Voltz the Raichu

Deceased:
R.I.P Solid the Ekans
R.I.P Diggit the Diglett
R.I.P Ze Bat the Zubat
R.I.P Gardie the Growlithe

- Will I get to Cinnabar Island?
- Will I defeat Blaine and get my 7th badge?
- Will another member of my team fall?!

Find out the answer to most of these questions next time on Pokemon FireRed!

Have you figured out how you're going to take on Blaine yet? Your entire team seems to be neutral or weak to Fire Blast, and Nessy probably can't take on his entire team.

Since you already have Water and Electric covered, you could evolve Eevee into Flareon and take advantage of Flash Fire, or use Kabuto/Omanyte, since they have a 4x resistance to Fire and resist everything Blaine can throw at them.

For Blaine, I'm planning on getting some help from some fossil friends. I'll revive Aerodactyl and Omanyte. I have Nessy as a strong member of that team. I also have Voltz, my Raichu. I'm planning on teaching him Dig. I also have Aquila and Funky as powerhouses in general.

Decided to take this challenge using my Ruby. I wonder if you guys thought of this as cheating:

Catching the first pokemon you don't have instead of literally the first pokemon you encounter

Catching a pokemon (even though it's not first encounter) specifically for in game trades (like Slakoth->Makuhita)

The first is not considered cheating, just a variation on the rules. Nuzlocke himself says that it is allowed for more team variety.

The second might be considered cheating, but it depends on who you ask.

Ok so I decided to try this challenge on Leaf green because I had some free time.

So I start the game get to the Rival battle and my friend was like "Wouldn't it be funny if he got a crit as the first hit?" You can guess whats coming. Thats right. He gets a crit on the first hit. Then the 3rd hit.

So yeah I turned the game off and it is currently in my draw, where it will stay.

lol

I'm trying on my FireRed. I just beat Surge, and my only death is Butterfree. I have Gloom to replace it, and I seem to be doing well. Status support really helps you survive.

'Nother update... On my way to get Veilstone to get my 3rd badge.

Party:
TITAN the Grotle
Bruce the Crobat (I got him to evolve into Crobat at level 23 xD)
Flash the Luxio
Leviathan the Gyarados (grinded forever in Eterna Forest for it. Thx Cheryl!)
Glaive the Staravia
Houdini the Abra (Exp. Share training him)

Box'd:
Tails the Buizel
Ecstassey the Chansey
Linux the Onix
Priest the Machop
Terra the Geodude
Rosie the Budew
NOM NOM the Bibarel
Phantom the Gastly
Don'tPopMe the Drifloon (my friend came up with that name xD)
Horsy the Ponyta
Headachy the Psyduck
Rocky the Bonsly

Daycare'd:
Yogi the Meditite

Dead:
None! :D

I know I have too many flying types in my party, but the fighting gym is next, so I'll replace one after that...

Ok, well i finished my Soul Silver Nuzlocke challenge a while ago but never posted it here. My Pokemon League party was the following:
Typhlosion
Kingler
Hypno
Machamp
Jumpluff
Togetic

Now i am borrowing my step-brothers Diamond version and am doing a new Nuzlocke challenge! This one, however, i am not allowed to load when one of my pokemon dies (done that a couple times in my last one) but i am allowed to buy items (and can only use revives i found).

So far i am at Jublife city with the following Pokemon:

Party:
Chimchar-Blaze
Starley-Lyn

Boxed:
Shinx-(can't remember)

Dead:
None

Ah, no offense Pika and Mattman, but on the front page it clearly states that you can choose whatever rules you want to, so that is what i am going to do. And actually, now that i think about it, i might do it without using revives, it made my first challenge slightly too easy. So no revives for me :)

Anyway, update:
Monferno(Blaze) lv.16
Staravia(cant remember) lv.15
Magikarp(Fang) lv.9ish

Beaten the first gym with no deaths :)

The only reason why Revives are not allowed... excuse me, I mean, useless, is because unlike normal walkthroughs, in Nuzlocke:

Faint = Dead,

(nvm what it says in the first Official Pokemon Handbook that Pokemon will not die)

Everyone, the race starts this weekend! Come on down to the group, and sign up for the ultamate, 3 game crossing, be all end all race.

No one is saying that you can't play through with revives. What they were saying is that if you do [b/]choose to use revives then you can't really call it a nuzlocke challenge. A nuzlocke challenge is one modeled after this dude: http://www.nuzlocke.com/?p=4

If it does not follow those two rules listed in the comic it is not really a nuzlocke challenge. Any other rules you want to make are fine but as it stands that's just how this works.
