Solid as a Rock

I originally made this team as me and a couple friends from college were trying a mock elite-4, and I was the one who pulled Rock from a hat while the others chose Water, Dark, and Normal. At first I was extremely skeptical because in the past I haven't had any luck with rock type pokemon, but surprisingly this team has done exceptionally well.

Now, I know that the "rule" of sorts is that for all mono-type teams you can have 1 wild card. For personal reasons, I don't care at all for that rule, because it defeats the purpose of a mono-type team. At any rate, here's my team more indepth:

Lucille Bluth @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Nature: Jolly
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Taunt
-Stealth Rock

Okay, to start the team off on a suicidal note (hah! see what I did there?) I chose a rock type that gets stealth rock down the majority of the time, and has a chance to prevent entry hazards from being put down. There really isn't anything to say about this guy, his only job is to lay down rocks and faint.

Gob Bluth @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Nature: Adamant
-Head Smash
-Waterfall
-Double Edge
-Earthquake

This guy has replaced Solrock who pretty much did a heaping load of nothing for my team. Slapping a Choice Scarf on Relincath, he can act as a revenge killer with a no-recoil STAB Head Smash and Double Edge. I've been testing him out recently and he's been doing quite well, and can take quite a few hits with his natural bulk and Sp. Def boost from sandstorm.

180px-248Tyranitar.png

George Bluth Sr. @ Babiri Berry
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Punch

Right after the giant explosion, you will then see Tyranitar poking his head through the smoke. After I set up Trick Room, it seems like the perfect idea to go straight to Tyranitar so I can get Sand Stream up, and see how far he gets with his Choice Band Boosted hits before he goes down. Usually, it's 1 or 2, 3 if I'm really lucky, but he usually manages to kill then weaken, which I then decide to use one of my last 3 pokemon depending on the situation and who I have killed.

Michael Bluth @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/38 Atk/220 Sp.Def
-Curse
-Thunder Wave
-Stone Edge
-Explosion

Originally in this guy's place was Cradily (because we had set rules where we couldn't use Legendary pokemon in our little mock Elite 4), but after that ended, I chose Regirock because of his ridiculous defenses teamed with Sand Stream support. Once I bring him in, I attempt to get some curses and throw out a few Thunder Waves to make myself faster, because I'll be much much slower after a few curses under my belt. Usually after 2 curses and clever para-crippling they can usually not do much while leftovers recovers my health. If I do happen to need to rest, I will, but usually I'll throw out +Atk boosted Stone Edges which will kill or severely dent everything. If there aren't many pokemon left, and I don't feel like resting, I'll usually Explode then move to Kabutops or Shuckle, depending on who is still alive at that time =P.

180px-141Kabutops.png

Lindsay Bluth @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 32 HP/252 Atk/204 Spe
Nature: Adamant
-Swords Dance
-Aqua Jet
-Stone Edge
-Waterfall

Okay, my last attacker, and is relatively bulky after Sand Stream support, but is still really frail. I try to bring it in on a fire pokemon, if there are any, and Swords Dance while they switch to a counter. After that I just fire off boosted Waterfalls/Stone Edges/Aqua Jets or keep using swords dance until Kabutops faints. Regardless of the pokemon, a +2 Aqua Jet is a great way to go out with a shine if Kabutops is about to faint.

200px-213Shuckle.png

Buster Bluth @ Leftovers
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 248 HP/252 Def/8 Sp.Def
Nature: Impish
-Toxic
-Knock Off
-Rest
-Protect

Alright.....here it is. Shuckle. My last resort. As long as their aren't any steel types, Shuckle always comes out on top. His ridiculous special defense is boosted even MORE with Sand Stream, so he's nearly impenetrable when I Toxic them, Protect, Knock Off (if I don't much care for their item), and keep using protect until I need to Rest. Once you thought you got past all of those rock pokemon....you shake in fear when Shuckle comes out.

Thank you guys for taking the time to read through this RMT, and I'll appreciate any and all criticism and changes. Only thing I'd like to point out that I will not change a team mate to a non-rock type, only other rock types.

Why on earth has Solrock got Trick Room when none others (except Shuckle) benefit from it?
And switch Solrock with Lunatone, since Lunatone is Special, and that would help against Physical walls.

I'll give Lunatone a shot, but after I Trick Room and explode hoping to take an opponent out with me, I bring in Tyranitar who benefits greatly from Trick Room while getting sand stream up.

I'm not making this a a trick room oriented team, it's just that I'm mainly helping Tyranitar go first and cause a huge amount of damage with Choice Band while getting Sand Stream up and going to help benefit the rest of my team with +50% Sp. Defense boost. I've found out with mono-type teams you can't switch out effectively since all of your pokemon share the same weakness, so I tried to build a team where everyone will do their job only once before taking a dive. That is the basic reason why I have Solrock setting up trick room then exploding because it helps by taking out one of their guys when Tyranitar can come in for free and, since he's so slow, can dish out a lot of damage while getting Sand Stream started.

Mr. Stallone @ Leftovers

EVs: 252 HP/38 Atk/220 Sp.Def

-Thunder Wave
-Stone Edge

I don't see why you should have Thunder Wave and Curse on the same set. Regirock is quite slow to begin with, so even if it's not getting its speed minced by curse Thunder Wave isn't really going to do much in terms of helping it do... anything, really. In fact, you even have a Trick Roomer on your team! Of course, you wouldn't be getting too many turns after cursing, but the point is that TWave isn't doing anything for you. Consider investing in another attack for coverage.

I'm not much of a rater but I agree with Yadoking's statement.

Having Trick Room with only one beneficiary seems like a waste of a move and pokemon to me. Also, with the instability of Trick Room (can randomly cut out when you still need it), I think that you should only use it if your team is built around it.
If you really need to speed up Tyranitar and give it an attack boost, why not just use the Dragon Dance set?

Tyranitar @ Babiri Berry / Life Orb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Punch / Aqua Tail / Earthquake

One DD gives you a speed boost and increases your attack to the same level as Choice Band. With the DD set, your tyranitar is much more flexible in handing threats since It won't be locked into 1 attack and it won't need to rely on Trick Room staying up. It would also free up a slot for say, Relicanth, who would replace Ttar's Aqua Tail and provide a nice water resist.

I actually like this quite a bit; guess I didn't see it when I was making this team a while ago haha. I will also try Relicanth in Solrock's spot, because after what you all have said, it seems like a pretty wasted spot for Trick Room only benefiting 1 Pokemon. Plus the fact that Relicanth can do a huge amount of damage with no recoil Head Smash. Do you think the choiced set will work effectively on the team?

Relicanth @ Choice Band/Choice Scarf
Ability: Rock Head

I guess my main thought process on Thunder Wave was to completely annoy when they can't attack every other turn while I'm still boosting. Plus I enjoyed that I could explode when I knew for a fact I would be going first and wouldn't die before hand. I'll think about giving up that spot for another move, say Earthquake, but I want to keep trying it with Thunder Wave.

I suggest getting Leftovers as an item, Jolly, Rock Polish, Waterfall, Head Smash, Earthquake. [though you can also go for Choice Scarf + Head Smash, which is also great.]

Rock Polish + Head Smash = Almost Guaranteed OHKO.

Plus it can outspeed almost all of the Grass types, and can even finish off Infernape and Roserade if used in OU, and Venusaur and Leafeon in UU, unless they're Scarf'd.

Also, i suggest getting Aggron, i personally use this set:

Aggron @ Chople Berry
252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Jolly
Rock Head
~ Rock Polish
~ Head Smash
~ Magnet Rise
~ Earthquake/Iron Head/Aqua Tail

There is also the SubPunch set which i happen to like also.

Aggron @ Leftovers
Adamant
160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Spe
Rock Head
~ Substitute
~ Head Smash
~ Focus Punch
~ Magnet Rise

Nice sand team dude! I'm glad at seeing regirock do more fighting in teams though. aerodactyl is always a good choice along with shuckle. I have been using a powerful sand team similar to yours too.Your sand team does more set up and defense while mines focuses on attacking, so check mines out and tell me what you think!
