They seem to be reusing older sprites from DP/Pt/HGSS, which is wildly annoying to me and kinda lazy. Vaporeon's sprite seems to be from Pt.

Nah, I don't think it is. Or if it is it went through quite a bit of editing.

I don't blame them for reusing sprites, but it IS annoying. Hopefully we can get new ones in the third version.

True, looking at Vaporeon's sprite it's the same pose, but mirrored and tweaked slightly (In Pt it faces left, in BW it faces right).

Pikachu's is very similar though.

That sounds like even more of a powerhouse than Staraptor, even if Wooguru's attack would turn out to be lower. If it gets good defences (Which I doubt), it would work good with the ability Keen Eye and Leftovers in combination with Free-Fall to make a bulky attacker that can stall against some opponents.

i'd say wargle will probally have high (or decent) atk and speed like its counterparts. as long as atk is at least 100, and spe is at least 110, i think it will give starraptor some competition any way.

Agreed. It is strange how they change some sprites between DP and Pt, but not between generations! I guess when the Gen VI games come to 3DS they'll have to do new sprites.

not only is the pre-release pictures, its also the dream world. it could look different in the actual game.

Just think; STAB Take Down and Brave Bird without recoil plus whatever high BP/coverage moves that will be given?

Encourage is most likely only going to power up moves with possible secondary effects that affect the opponent, like the 10% chance of burn from most Fire type attacks, or the 30% flinch chance from Air Slash or Iron Head. It's not going to remove the guaranteed effects that harm the user, like Close Combat, Overheat, Hyper Beam or worse, Explosion.

Also, Double Edge > Return > Take Down.

Really, we should be AVOIDING competition with Staraptor. Encourage differentiates the two but I think they'll need something more than that.

I could sorta see it getting some kind of Fire-type flavor move (which would also work well with Encourage since Fire-type moves tend to have a chance for a burn as a secondary effect), but that probably wouldn't be as useful as Staraptor's Close Combat.

If Encourage only affects (as I expect) the same sorts of things that are affected by Serene Grace then I really don't think it'll be that useful. It better give one heck of a boost to attacks to really matter at all. Even worse if it only boosts the power of moves that would have had the secondary effects (though I suppose a stronger Air Slash wouldn't be too bad). But really, it looks like a very underwhelming ability.

Well, I think we're assuming it's x1.5 boost, but it could be smaller. A x1.5 to all of Hihidharma's Fire attacks sounds good on paper (assuming it gets Flare Blitz or some other new physical Fire-type attack not named Fire Punch), and that's not counting any Fighting-type flavor moves I could see it getting, like perhaps Cross Chop, which I'm guessing would have its extra chance for a critical removed in exchange for the boost. Wargle, on the other hand, doesn't seem like it would have a lot of moves like that unless it happened to be Special-oriented, in which case it could make use of a boosted Air Slash. But it seems to be physically inclined, IMO.

@Don Honchkrorleone: I'm hoping and praying maybe Keen Eye boosts accuracy like a more spread around Compoundeyes. But I doubt it, since it wasn't revealed along with Sturdy's new function. Combining that with Illuminate which in my perfect world would do something like -1 Accuracy like an automatic flash would make for a nice theme flavor-wise on Miruhog. Albeit there'd probably be no reason to use that over New Keen Eye, which has nice synergy with Hypnosis.

What's more important is how awesome the mole's animation is! Each of its individual claws moves separately.

Swana's animation is pretty cool, too. I mean, it spreads is wings, how cool is that? Hopefully there will be more awesome animations (Ho-oh and every other legendary Bird!), really a cool feature.

Vappy's sprite is mirrored but it is the Pt sprite. Thank God they used its best sprite, DP sprite and HGSS sprite were horrid. >_>

also considering the eeveelutions got 3 new sprites each last gen, I don't blame them for reusing theirs. But Hoenn pokemon all need new sprites, and I hope a bulk of old pokemon get better ones.

speaking of which, how are you gonna get wargle. is the pigeons final, is a legend, a pokemon in its self with no relation. i just gotta know

Errr, it's pretty obvious it's not Mamepato's final evolution, especially since we've already seen its second evo (remember Hatohpoh?) which didn't change that drastically besides gaining a Staravia-like build. It's almost surely not a legendary either since it hasn't been called one. It's probably just a random stand-alone Pokemon. Maybe it evolves. Maybe it doesn't. Maybe it evolves from something. Maybe it doesn't... But my money's on a single stager.

Oh god I'm going to be really annoyed if they reuse the Hoenn sprites yet again. Some of them are really horrible.

Regardless, Flareon has always had really amazing sprites, so I'm not as concerned for it as I am, say, Glaceon or Jolteon.

yeah your probaly right, or a 2 stage and it evolves from something.

Yeah, that seems most likely. Normally I wouldn't suspect that they'd show the evo of a Pokemon before showing the prevo, but they did it with Hihidharma and I honestly wasn't expecting it to already be evolved. Wargle looks like it could have evolved from something more than Hihidharma does.

@Cubic: Not... really. Especially since Spearow and Fearow are clearly different kinds of birds, whatever they are, and just last gen we had a starling evolve into a hawk. It doesn't seem exactly too hard to concieve. Just, Mamepato and Wargle share no common feature or theme beyond being birds...

Yeah, that's the thing, though. At least Spearow/Fearow and Starly/Staraptor share common traits. Mamepato is very, very clearly based on a pigeon as Wargle is very clearly based on an eagle. The other lines blurred the differences well enough. I just can't picture those two clearly defined species being related to each other, is all.
