This is the first generation I've kept a track of the competitive scene for, so I had just a couple of questions about how things would work in the aftermath of a new generation. I know tiering discussion is not on the cards, but I'm not here to speculate what gets tiered where, just wondering how it the tiering will work:

1) Given the enormous changes, is it simply usage that will drive what fits into what tier?

2) Will tier sizes be changed to accomodate new pokes? And if so, what dictates this change? I know OU got to 53 recently, I didn't catch what invoked this increase.

3) Is re-testing for lower tiers (particularly those in Uber or BL which are basically banlists for OU and UU respectively) on a case by case basis, or is there another method that takes place with the new generation?

Basically, just wondering if there's a guide, or someone with experience of what happened in the last generation, to give me a heads up for what I can expect.

Apologies if this might be in the wrong section.

Was wondering how Smogon will do the Uber/OU tier. Will all Pokemon be allowed into OU,say, Mewtwo/Lugia/Dialga?

Is there a thread for this?I am not asking wether something like Salamence will be allowed into OU, but something like Mewtwo.

I know this is a rather... weird question, but as I'm not at all stat savvy (yeah, I'm a member of smogon and I have a tiny knowledge of competitive play. Weird, I know >.>) I was wondering if anyone could give me just a small breakdown on whether the following pokemon's stat spreads are at all viable:

-Monkey Trio
-Rooppushin
-Dorelda
-Marakacchi
-Shinpora
-Abagoora
-Shibirudon
-Furiijio
-Goruggo

I realize it's a kinda long list, and it's a weird request, so If no one feels like answering, I understand. but if anyone's up to helping out an ignorant person, a post or PM would be nice.

Um, didn't someone translate some of the Dream World abilities for older pokemon? I swear I saw a list somewhere but I can't find it now...

1 and 2. The Pokemon go into OU, UU, and NU based only on usage. The Pokemon with top 75% percent of usages (roughly, there's a more complicated formula) in OU stay there while the rest get put into UU and the same thing happens for NU in UU. There is no "size limit" for any teir since OU, UU, and NU are based on usage and Uber, BL, and NUBL (I don't think they've actually made a banlist for NU yet) are simply banlists for their respective teirs. It would be possible, but unlikely, for all 649 Pokemon to be tied as the most used Pokemon and all be OU.

3. There's a thread for discussing this in Uncharted Territory. It seems like it's split between people wanting to allow everything in OU and people who want to do the standard "auto ban everything with higher than 600 BST that's not Slaking and Regigigas".

Edit: @Uber: We really don't know yet but if I had to guess I would say this:

Monkey trio: Probably UU material since they're fairly outclassed.
Roopushin: It depends on its moves really. It basically has Machamp's stats but doesn't have the No Gaurd boosted Dynamic Punch. Probably low-OU to high UU.
Doreiden: In sun, possibly OU materail, outside of Sun, probably UU.
Maracachi: NU probably, since it's outclassed by a lot of things like Doreiden.
Shinpora: Probably NU unless people like using a Flying type with Magic Guard.
Abagoora: Low UU at best.
Shiborudon: Low OU to high UU. No weaknesses and good defenses and an immunity make it pretty good.
Furiijio: Probably NU. SR weakness and low Defense mean it's pretty easy to take down and Scizor and Hitmontop and going to Bullet Punch and Mach Punch it all day.
Goruggo: Low OU to high UU. It has good Attack and average defenses, along with two immunities it can get in on.

Keep in mind that movepool greatly effects a Pokemon's tier so if these get good moves, they could be bumped up.

Yeah, but not every Pokemon. Check out this thread.

Thank you so much:D I plan to get into competitive battling with the advent of the fifth gen, and I was just wondering how my aesthetic favorites stacked up statwise.

Can you transfer pokes with held items from 4th gen to 5th gen? And if so, does that mean you can have TMs in 5th gen games that aren't even TMs anymore? (Stealth Rock etc..)

I would assume not, but just wanted to make sure.

I heard they made it so spinning was easier. Could someone fill me in on all the new moves/old moves effects that made spinning easier?

Supposedly there is an item that allows you to hit pokemon with moves they are immune to.

This on a rapid spinner means you cannot be spinblocked by ghost types.

uh... this may sound like a strange question, but what is the effect of that strange move that the first gym leader's monkey and dog use against you? The one that looks like bide or something and raises stats. It seems to raise SpA but may raise other stats (maybe speed)...

I think that might have been Cheer Up. It raises your Atk and SpAtk by one stage.

Reposting this one last time to try and get an answer.

The HMs are Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Dive, and Waterfall, in that order, right?

Shinpora: Probably NU unless people like using a Flying type with Magic Guard.

I wouldn't be so quick to call it NU. Magic Guard and good speed with dceent Special Attack. If this metagame shows a drop in Pursuit users bulky Psychics could make a return. Shinpora might have some great tutor, egg or TM moves.

.. :/ I damn sure hope so. Its too cool looking to be regulated to unused crap.

Can anyone tell me when we can expect a North American Black/White Pokésav?
I'm not even sure if they can get the English version since there are currently only Japanese version. For the Japanese version, give them about a month or so. They have even barely played the game yet, I bet. It'll take them time to extract the data. The English version should be coming out within weeks after the English Black and White versions are released by Spring 2011.

Another quick viability related question. I ask this already realizing the below average BST, but does Dasutodasu have any competitive merit what so ever? Ability? Moves? It's my absolute favorite pokemon :/
