Ou team (second attempt)

This is my second attempt at making an OU team. Its sort of a revamp of the previous team but I tried to update it to today's metagame.

I have been building this team for quite awhile. I want to create a team for wifi battles on HGSS, so legendaries are something I want to avoid, but will think about if necessary. I am a rather new battler to the competitive scene, so I kind of threw something together that synced rather well after studying the stradegy dex/other rmt threads. I also took my past experience with my previous team to change up this one.

Metagross @ Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/236 Atk/22 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk,-SpAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Explosion
- Stealth Rock
- Zen Headbutt

My lead pokemon. I love this particular lead because its bulky and can take a few hits. It has enough offensive power to even take out at least one of the opponent's pokemon. Zen Headbutt is for lead champs that I have seen often. Bpunch and explosion usually do well enough or I can switch out and save metagross for later.

tyranitar.png

Tyranitar (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd,-SpAtk)
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
I originally put this guy on the team to punch holes in the team, but I havent had much luck with him. Useful for scaring pokes away mostly, doesnt actually get many kills. Pursuit/Crunch is useful for the gengar's who pack hp fire to counter scizor.

scizor.png

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP/252 Atk/10 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk,-SpAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- U-turn
Standard Scizor set. I use him to revenge kill or scare away pokemon. My go to choice for anti-ghost/psychic.

starmie.png

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SpAtk/6 SpDef
Timid nature (+Spd,-Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
I have gone through may iterations of different pokemon and different sets for this starmie. The main reason this starmie is here is to counter any and all water types the opponent may have. Usually bulky waters or a garyados. If I can switch in safely it makes an excellent heatran counter. Extremely fragile, so I sacrificed all survivability for power and speed. I would love a more reliable pokemon for this role, if any.

cresselia.png

Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/200 Def/56 Spd
Calm nature (+SpDef,-Atk)
- Charge Beam
- Ice Beam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
My tank of the team. If I am unsure of a pokemon, or cant particularly deal with a specific poke well I switch in cress. Many super effective moves only deal 40% dmg at the most, and usually less. Can rest off the dmg and sleep talk for dmg back. Very useful poke, especially for stalling.

infernape.png

Infernape (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 6 Atk/252 Spd/252 SpAtk
Naive nature (+Spd,-SpDef)
- Close Combat
- Flamethrower
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power- Ice
Another very fragile pokemon, but has been useful. Not many people seem to expect the grass knot/HP Ice so I can OHKO many potential counters. Flamethower is useful against steel types and for stab dmg, and CC is the usual heavy hitter that comes on Infernape.

Threats-
Breloom:
The dreaded sleep+focus punch combo can be very hard to deal with. I use several methods to counter. If a poke hasnt been put to sleep I switch to cress and use sleep talk. If I think I can switch in safely, ill go to infernape for the flamethrower.

Skarmory:
Generally a hard poke to deal with. I have plenty of potential counters but the switch allows a spike layer and only scares off the Skarmory for later spikes.

That are the only two threats that I can think of off the top of my head. I generally have a plan for most pokes so I cannot think of any particular headaches.

I am generally hoping for replacements for at least Starmie and perhaps Tyranitar, but I will take all suggestions for changes to the team. Thank you for taking the time to read and make suggestions. I apologize for my lack of knowledge of the current metagame and my general lack of skill. :)

Why are you using Starmie on this team? You have no Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, and by the way, Starmie is not extremely frail. 60 /85 / 85 defenses are actually very reasonable for a Pokemon like it. If you still think a counter to bulky waters are necessary, then use Choice Specs Jolteon:

Jolteon @ Choice Specs
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Baton Pass
- Hidden Power Grass
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

It takes care of basically any bulky water there is in existence, like Suicune or Swampert.

On Metagross I personally think Meteor Mash is a better option then Zen Headbutt. I think you need a lot more detail in the descriptions of Scizor. Since you're finding you're current Tyranitar unsatisfactory (I think it doesn't fit in this team, it ruins Infernape/Starmie because of Sandstorm/Life Orb damage racking up REALLY fast), I suggest replacing it with another sweeper of your choice. Cresselia isn't really a great Pokemon in today's metagame because of the popularity of Scizor and Tyranitar, so I suggest replacing it with something else, like a Wish Vaporeon who supports your team very well.

Good luck!

i smell a weakness to breloom, thats why i suggest changing crunch on tyranitar to fire punch so you can revenge-kill it.

@ above: hp ice > grass, so it can hit breloom harder, and also hit +1 dragonite. (can it outspeed?)

edit: @ below: yeah, true.. i thought seed bomb would bring cress down in 2-3 hits [i was wrong], but it's still a threat though, and cresselia can be taken down easily by other pokemon.

must be something wrong with your nose then XD

because that cresselia is a perfect counter to brelloom.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will try out the jolteon, as I would like a reliable water counter.

I am also going to try out Gyarados as a sweeper to replace tyranitar.
Gyarados (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd,-SpAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
I chose jolly to be be able to outspeed potential counters and hit back with a powerful DD/Orb boosted attack. I have Jolteon/Scizor to counter anything I might be unable to deal with.
