2011 VGC RMT (ignore if Australia is rejected)

This is a team I plan to use in next year’s Pokémon Video Game World Championships, if Australia is allowed to participate. I hope it's not too early to post this.

Rankurusu @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 Sp.Def
- Recover
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball

Primary Trick Roomer, initially partnered with Morobareru. Start with Trick Room, while Morobareru lures Taunts away with Anger Powder. Psychic and Shadow Ball for power (especially with a Special Attack stat like THAT!), and Recover to heal. EVs to be as bulky as possible, balanced in both stats.

591Morobareru.png

Morobareru @ Big Root
Ability: Effect Spore
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 Sp.Def
- Anger Powder
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis
- Spore

Supporting Follow Me wall, initially paired with Rankurusu. Anger Powder to lure moves away, most importantly Taunt. Spore to disable threats, Giga Drain for STAB and to restore health, Synthesis for general healing. EVs to be as bulky as possible, balanced in both stats.

589Shubarugo.png

Shubarugo @ Muscle Band
Ability: Swarm
Nature: Brave
EVs: 252 Attack / 128 Def / 128 Sp.Def
- Swords Dance
- X-Scissor
- Aerial Ace
- Iron Head

Physical Sweeper. X-Scissor and Iron Head for STAB, Aerial Ace to eliminate Bug-type threats to Trick Roomers, as well as Zuruzukin. EVs to maximise Attack and to make equally bulky in both defensive stats.

606Oobemu.png

Oobemu @ Wise Glasses
Ability: Synchronise
Nature: Quiet
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 4 Def
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Trick Room
- Psychic

Special Sweeper and secondary Trick Roomer. Nasty Plot to boost Special Attack. Psychic for STAB. Thunderbolt is just a filler. ^_^’ EVs for power and bulk.

C&C welcome, as is a valid alternative to Oobemu.

Oh, and if it's revealed that Australia has been rejected AGAIN from the World VGC, then this thread is to be deleted.

The vgc is very offensive you do not have time to recover and leftovers are usless./SIZE]

This is a bad pokemon so use eruffun who an support your team much better with priority support moves. Priority taunt is really useful.

You need protect in doubles so much. I don't like him but I do not want to change your team too much. Maybe try out sand power doryuzzu.

Special Sweeper and secondary Trick Roomer. Nasty Plot to boost Special Attack. Psychic for STAB. Thunderbolt is just a filler. ^_^’ EVs for power and bulk.
You do not need 2 TR users and set up is horrible in vgc.[\SIZE]

I'm quite adamant about using a Trick Room team at these VGCs, for better or worse.

How about Rankurusu partners with a Wide Guard Roopushin? Or will Erefuun's Taunt get in before it can use Wide Guard?

That's a good idea and it would work at preventing fake out. But still taunt beats you.
Replace Oobemu with roopushin and switch it's slot with rankurusu
Why switch with Rankurusu and not Erefuun or Morobareru?

good team but you said errufuun under the mushroom thing

That was only in Plusle's quote. My OP states the right name. He/She changed it when quoting me, because that's his/her style when giving advice, I'm guessing.

Anger powder has the same priority as fake out. Many teams carry fakeout kojondo and their second mon is then open to taunt your trick room. Maybe carry protect on Rankuruso so your safe from that scenario?

I'm not that into the VGC Gen5 metagame yet, but with the amount of double hitting moves, I suggest that at least 3 of your 4 pokemon run Protect, 2 at least.

Healing moves have never been useful unless they also function as an attack. You probably won't have time to use anything like Recover unless one opponent is sleeping. Otherwise, TR has always been my favorite VGC strategy, and it works very well in my experience.

Sandstorm looks like it might be the main field effect this year, so I would recommend a grass/water move on one of your backrunners.

I dont see HOW sandstorm will be used this year since its gen 5s only and the only thing I really see benefitting is dory

glad to see someone taking an interest in the 2011 VGC. I agree that protect>recover though and other than that I am rather pleased with this team, just watch out for zoroark or any other dark types that are versatile

Simply because it's pretty much the only viable weather and most people just feel the need to use something besides TR. Landlos and Dory get some good benefits.

Most teams will probably end up being goodstuffs style.

Well, your leads at least are pretty similar to mine, though your back two are different. Anger Powder/Spore mushroom guy is really good; and the teddy things is, too. I would remove Recover and Leftovers from him, though. He's a great sweeper, but there's not really a chance in VGC to get much recovery in - I'd replace Leftovers with something like Life Orb (Magic Orb negates the recoil), Lum Berry (always useful), or, well, a bunch of stuff. Recover you can either replace with Focus Blast for more coverage, albeit slightly shaky accuracy (you could Wide Lens, but, yeah...) or Protect (always good in doubles). Might be better to give him Sp. Att EVs too.

The main ways I can think of your opponent stopping the Trick Room are Taunt + Fake Out, powerful multi hit attackes on turn one, or a Trick Room team of their own. Double Protect turn one could stop the Fake Out strategy, though sometimes it leaves you open to the enemy setting up. Or just forego Trick Room and use the turn they're Taunting as a free attack. Remember to watch out for Eruufun Encoring Trick Room if you do set it up. Powerful multi hit attacks are possibly harder to stop outright; either you need enough bulk to live through them, or something like Wide Guard.
