Title says it all, I'm no top of the ladder player but a long while back I played some DP OU and NU. I just recently decided to get back into the groove of things by playing some BW OU. My first team was basically just my team from the pokemon white story mode with competitive movesets. (Samurott, Wargle, Excadrill, Conkeldurr, Beartic and Haxorus).
Well this team wasn't terrible and I'll definetly be using some of the pokemon again I thought it was important to build a team one by one to support each other, rather than taking 6 pokes and trying to make them work together. This team was then born.
Splarzipan (Swampert) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Scald
With team preview obsoleting the position this is the closest thing to a lead I have. Able to set up rocks on the first turn very reliably means he is automatically a good Pokemon to have around. He can also take basically any non-grass attack from an attacking lead with no issues what so ever. And finally if I expect to be taunted, or just have a reason to stay in and fight it out his trio of attacking moves provides excellent coverage and power. However this was the only previous generation Pokemon I wanted on my team, I wanted to try the new Pokemon and build around them so with my foundation set I started searching for the new stars of the metagame.
Cleet (Ferrothorn) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
0 Speed IV's
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
It's a Ferrothorn, not much else to say. Being a defensive monster as well as being able to set up entry hazards and seeds makes him a great pokemon to leave in. I also chose him because he covers swamperts weakness to grass excellently with a 4x resist. Finally he is actually a very powerful attacker. Having absolutely no speed means that his Gyro ball deals tons of damage against unprepared pokemon, and he can also come in on a trick room to sweep with power whip, truly a great pokemon.
Sour Patch (Reuniclus) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 172 HP / 32 Def / 252 SAtk / 52 SDef
0 Speed IV's
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
Oh god this thing is just a monster. I decided to make him trick room as opposed to a calm mind or other alternative, because it seemed powerful, allowed for more type coverage, and made an excellent partner to Ferrothorn. I usually bring it in on a suspected fighting or psychic move then set up the trick room on either the switch, or live another attack which it can usually do. Once trick room is up there is basically a guaranteed good 5 rounds of sweeping, the only thing that can stop it is priority and other trick room Reuniclus. Incredibly powerful.
Dr. Watson (Whimsicott) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs:
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Encore
- Toxic
Although probally the least effective pokemon on my team, when he works, he works. Able to subseed like a pro as well as trap and wear down enemy pokemon he has great power for no attacking moves. However he is 100% completely walled by Breloom, who is already a pretty big threat to my team. Regardless he is important to throw around some support to a fairly attacking focused team.
Andre (Terrakion) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 44 Def / 212 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Quick Attack
One of the best revenge killers in the game, unfortunately Close Combat and Earthquake due have immunitys, but they combined with Rock Slide are reliable enough choices to come in on a death and take out most pokemon. He also can switch in on every attack that hits Whimsicott for super effective damage, improving team synergy. I have been considering alternatives for Quick attack, as although priority is nice the damage is often so low and brutal to be stuck into the move that I often feel like it's useless. I've been considering X-Scissor as a replacement, as the move worked well on my Excadrill.
Nommer (Galvantula) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Compoundeyes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+Satk -Atk)
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Being able to outspeed a vast majority of the non scarfed competition, as well as having few weakness's this guy is an all star of the team. His power should not be underestimated as with no choice item he will almost always have an appropriate and devastating attack. Finally his only weakness are covered amazingly by Swampert, rounding off the type coverage of the team.
I still have alot to learn about this metagame, and although this team preforms pretty well I would love suggestions on how to improve it. Thank you in advance for all your ideas and suggestions!
