Pokémon Black/White in-game discussion

Considering how i got a female drought vulpix and female immunity gligar off the gts, is there really any point in wasting time with those frustratingly boring minigames? It's not like the espeon or bulbasaur ill get will be any good, and they are always male...so why not just let others do the work for me with the dream world pokes you can breed? The only breedable dream world ability i still want/need is prankster sableye anyway, and that might never exist (or even be breedable).

Can you soft reset for the eeveelution?

You can SR for any Entree Forest pokémon; Synchronize doesn't work there, though, so it's a tough job.

Finally managed to (legitimately) breed my first flawless pokemon, a 31/31/31/20/31/31 Growlithe, Adamant and Intimidate, in the third batch of eggs going for Masuda method. Definitely makes up for the 31/31/31/31/31/29 female Jolly Solosis, though that was still a kick in the nuts.

super doubles has had me frustrated for weeks! ive finally finished my rain dance team consisting of scarftoed, sash moxie dd gyara, lorb kingdra and specs latios. hopefully ill acquire the doubles trophy on my next run.

wifi battles are addicting (b/w has me interested in the whole wifi scene in general). disconnections are a huge turn-off but nonetheless, it benefits both users who are keen to strengthen their ranking. i do wonder if ongoing complaints will have an effect on the current system for the future.

Whoa, Smogon's working again? First time in a week... Sweet. Anyway, I just managed to breed a Pawniard, great IVs across the board... MODEST NATURE. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

Just got a shiny 31/31/27/04/29/31 adamant clorophyl Deerling by sheer luck in my white mono-type run.

I'll spend my next hour crying in happiness.

Hatched a Modest Deino, 29/31/20/31/29/31.

Goddammit, stop trolling me Trollfreak. That defense IV hurts me. Hell, swap the Attack and Defense IV and I'd be happy. So, keep or rebreed?

I'd keep it, if anything its great breeding fodder.

Also, my newest Rock Blast Shellder:
30/31/21/15/31/31

Not perfect, but slowly getting there. This one can't Hydro Pump tho, its Adamant to boot.

(And outside of White Forest, the only Pickup user in BW is Lillipup. Herdier and Stoutland lose the Ability :-@ )

I kind of see your argument, but I would counter by pointing out that without RNG manipulation, a player can gain an advantage either by dumb luck, or by having time to kill and patience with conventional breeding or SRing. RNG manipulation is itself something that requires more skill, and less luck and patience, than other methods of obtaining good IVed Pokemon, and among those who can do it, it levels the playing field.

As far as I'm concerned, anything that makes it easier to obtain and train competitive Pokemon is a good thing, since it will help make the WiFi metagame more dynamic. There have been intentional changes by Game Freak on that front: first Emerald gave us the EV reducing berries, allowing a Pokemon to be retrained for a different role. Then DP gave us the Power Items, speeding up EV training. And BW gave us perhaps the biggest change of all, reusable TMs giving us the freedom to experiment with moves instead of having to jealously guard TMs.

Honestly, I don't understand why even with the knowledge of how the mechanics of the game have been abused to create perfect pokemon in earlier generations they haven't improved breeding so people don't have to resort to abuse to create competative pokemon.

Personally I'd prefer not using RNG but if I want to be competative it seems like I won't have a choice. Even with 2 perfect parents and an everstone on one of them the chances of breeding a pokemon with 6 perfect IVs and the right nature and ability are only 1 in 131072 (32*32*32*2*2). With anything less then perfect parents that chance goes even further down.

That said, for now I enjoy breeding good pokemon. I have so far gotten myself an adamant sandile with pursuit and 31/31/31/x/22/31, a jolly zubat with brave bird and 31/31/24/x/23/31 and a modest lucario with vacuum punch and 31/x/28/31/26/31 which I'm pretty happy with (although I found out too late that I couldn't get roost on my zubat >.<).

This misconception is rather incorrect. Through breeding, a power item, and an everstone, you can guarantee a nature 50% of the time and one perfect IV on every egg. Breeding wisely means that you can get something usable within 50 eggs at most, and the IV Judge at the Battle Subway can be useful for checking for perfect IVs, saving some time. It no longer takes forever to breed up something competitively viable.

It's not really a misconception, I just have a different view on what I concider a competative pokemon. The difference between 25 and 31 in IVs or the difference between having the right hidden power, especially when that's the case for every pokemon on a team, is pretty significant in my opinion.

So, I think I managed to find the best trade ever on the GTS. Managed to find a Jolly, 31/31/24/x/24/31 female Gible (with Outrage) for...a Patrat. Seriously.

I also concur that breeding is really not that bad. If you're going for flawless pokemon, or a specific Hidden Power, then I suppose it's a bit torturous. Certain pokemon can be more of a pain than other for sure (*cough* DW Nidoking), but I've been able to breed most of my pokemon so far within a few hours. I actually managed to get a 31/31/30/x/24/17 Guts Adamant Timburr on the THIRD egg, a couple days ago. Absurdly lucky, sure, but overall breeding's been fairly pleasant this generation , especially with the judge.

@above:

Are you sure it's UT?

Breeding is not that bad this gen TBH. It takes a while but you can get acceptable results quickly.

EDIT: Damn that's a veeeery nice trade.

It'd be hilarious if somebody trolled you and gave it 255 evs in SpA by wings and Calciums lol

I thought female DW pokemon were rare or something. Most of mine are chicks. Maybe the males were rare? :/ Maybe I'm just downright lucky?

I caught a shiny afro buffalo yesterday!!!!! asnfjdnsjvnbjs nvjsbv!!!!

the dream world doesnt give me shit... EVER!!!!

btw, why wasnt the site working?

My experience has been that female DW Pokemon are less common than Male ones, but I wouldn't go so far as to call them rare (looks to be about a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio). If you've encountered more females than males you are almost certainly pretty lucky.

@GT: Server upgrade, or so I've heard.

Is there really a significant difference between 25 and 31IVs? How much more damage will you take if suppose you have a 20IV in defense as opposed to 31 for Larvesta?

Because I've just settled for 20/x/20/31/31/31.

if you don't care about hidden power, Morning Sun, or substitute, that set is perfect; the missing ivs are negligible unless you can find some specific attack that will KO it much more often than with the ivs.

remember to run 4 HP in lvl 100 so you can switch into SR 3 times and so that sandstorm takes 17 hits to ko.

I just worry about the very obnoxious music that plays. I keep forgetting to put the sound down when I enter it, everyone just watches me in an awkward way

Does how well you do in minigames determine their gender? I just aced 5 mini-games and got 5 female Pokemon today so I'm starting to wonder if thats why I mostly get chicks.

I think like this:

female=ace
male+egg move=medium
male=terribad

I've yet to get a single Giga Drain Exeggcute after 3 encounters lol

Sadly, I've found that wining Pokemon mini-games is a completely ineffective way of getting chicks.

Ah that would make sense.

So far I got a female Lickitung which I'm training as a Lickilicky now and a female Tangela which I finished EV training and turned into a Tangrowth.

And a Shinx and Bidoof, but I kinda like their non DW abilities a lot better.

I'm just waiting to unlock the next area the explore. But its soooo far away. Its like another 1000 points to go before I get it. Anyone know how points accumulate? I theorized that trading with other people via Share Shelf gave points.
